if afternoon -- good afternoon. >> massive break downs in the light rail system left riders stranded for a bit in the south bay. train riders had to evacuate. four trains had to be stalled because of mechanical or power issues. the issue is causing major disruptions in service. a total of eight riders had to be evacuated. bus bridges have been set up for riders. a deadly accident at san jose international airport under investigation after a crash between a car and an suv outside an airport terminal left one

person dead and five injured. one of those injured is an infant. >> reporter: good afternoon. we can tell you that traffic is currently impacted right now in front of the parking structure. if you take a look you can see environmental contractors are currently at the scene doing cleanup work. some oil got into a storm drain but it was contained and airport officials tell us there is no environmental impact. this accident served as a wake up call for a lot of people. at the san jose international airport a tough scene for travelers to process. >> i think it is obviously something bad happened because of the tape and police vehicles. >> reporter: at around 10:30 this morning a two vehicle collision outside the parking structure at terminal b. san jose police tell us the solo occupant driver of a red pontiac

traveling at high speed crashed into a silver suv carrying a family of five. the driver of the red vehicle did not survive. the occupants in the suv were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injury. those we spoke with say it should serve as a reminder to slow down. >> nobody is expecting them to be doing it or just the con fluence of factors that make everything you think are right go wrong. >> reporter: police cleared the scene four hours after the crash occurred. investigators will look at surveillance video. >> sometimes this is the result of people not being careful and driving slowly. we don't want it to happen to anybody else. >> reporter: in san jose, abc 7 news. we have developing news in santa cruz. sky 7 hd shows police breaking the window of a pickup truck a

short time ago. officers sealed off the area after reports of a suicidal person inside. police asked people to stay indoors. this is happening well east of the santa cruz beach boardwalk. a private plane landed with no landing gear. sky 7 hd was at the scene moments after it landed. the faa says the pilot was the only person on board and was not injured. the plane is registered to an architect. no word on whether he was at the controls today. turning to weather california is in the midst of the second statewide flex alert since 2013. the agency that controls the power supply is asking residents and businesses to cut back on electric use until 9:00 tonight.

take a live look from our east bay hills camera. we are seeing triple digit temperatures in some places. when will we see relief from the heat. we have an accuweather update. >> relief is building. we will start to feel it area wide tomorrow. let's take a look at live doppler 7 hd. notice cloud build up and moisture well to our south. there were thunder showers moving through the big area earlier. you can see that activity pushed out to sea. coming behind that we have a wave of scattered showers moving through areas like gilroy right now. over the next three hours we may see scattered showers moving through the central part of the bay area mainly south and east of the golden gate and may be an isolated thunderstorm or two in that area of activity. meanwhile we have had triple digits today, not so many as yesterday. hot at livermore and antioch where highs have reached 10 #. 101 a piece and numerous locations inland have seen highs

show up at city hall. this is the brain child of professor and students who say technology will make government more open. >> reporter: here is the deal. if you work or have kids or it is really a challenge to get down here to city hall during the meetings. so this ballot measure being proposed would allow you to still weigh in. walter paulson is a regular raising his voice at city hall. your average san franciscan can't make it to meetings during the day. >> we don't want to exclude groups. >> reporter: these students have come up with ideas they think will make it easier for more people to participate. >> in san francisco the epicenter of technology it's time to bring city hall into the 21st century. >> reporter: david lee is the professor and former commissioner. his students and paid volunteers have collected more than 16,000 skig signatures for a ballot initiative that would require all public meetings in san francisco be streamed online and

twice. the mural depicts gay couples and a transgender man. a former state senator and three others pleaded guilty today to racketeering charges in a political corruption case in san francisco federal court. today's plea bargains follow the arrests. prosecutor claim that they solicited bribes in exchange for helping a business. jackson's attorney spoke outside the courthouse. >> for a year and a half keith jackson thought that he was dealing with honest people paying honest money for the kind of honest work that he does. and eventually they embroiled him in things which he had to face up to. >> he will return to court for sentencing in october and could face up to 20 years in federal prison. one day after governor jerry brown signed the controversial vaccine bill into law he is facing high profile criticism. actor jim carey has been

alcatraz island for the unveiling of the newly restored military guardhouse and entry way. this hidden part of the prison was built before the civil war and has been covered since 1918. it took 15 months to restore the area to how it looked back then for all visitors to see. also known as the dungeon is also now open where people went to prison for crimes speaking out against the civil war. >> the story of its history and meaning for us today is really dramatic and really important. >> the project cost $3 million

and paid for mostly by ticket sales. nba free agency i is underway with enormous sums of money being thrown around crazily. coming off winning the nba championship the warriors have to throw plenty of green at draymond green. negotiations have broken off. they met last night in los angeles but did not reach an agreement. draymond will meet with other teams that are interested. he is from east lansing michigan. the price tag is going to be steep. green made less than a million dollars this past season. he could receive offers in 15 to $18 million per year range. the warriors have the right to match and are expected to bring draymond back whatever the cost. abc 7 news was at the warriors team store this afternoon when harrison barnes signed autographs and took pictures with fans. he told us winning the championship has been wild and when asked about draymond said

a rare treat for star gazers. over the past month jupiter and venus have been slowly moving together in the night sky. the way they were positioned it made the two planets appear as a double star. in reality they were separated by millions of miles of space. it only happens about once every eight years. >> very cool. >> really pretty. speaking of cool and pretty spencer christian. >> thank you from my two favorite double stars. >> so smooth. >> let's take a look at what is going on with our weather. while we have mainly sunny skies we have an increase in high clouds and low clouds near the coast and some showers, some moisture moving through the hamilton range and south bay from san jose area of moisture right now. not only do we have a chance of scattered showers continuing

today the increase was approved by the city council in october with a goal to hit $15 an hour by 2018. the rate includes annual adjustment for inflation every january. many commuters across the bay area started paying more to get around. abc 7 news reporter tells us why fares are going up at the golden gate bridge. >> reporter: elijah mitchell doesn't mind paying $7 for a cable car ride. he says it is a fun way to get to work. >> i'm from louisiana. every time i think of the cable car i think about the rice aroany commercials. >> reporter: riders will pay more as well as those with monthly passes. fears the price hike will be too much for those barely getting by.

>> i think it is probably hard on a lot of people. it is already so expensive for the regular prices. i don't know how people do it. i am lucky that my boss pays for my travel. >> reporter: still most commuters we talk to say paying more for public transportation is worth it considering the alternative. >> i used to have to drive to work to san francisco an hour an hour and a half. now it's like on the ferry it's i think 35 minutes, 40 minutes to get to marin. it's fabulous. >> reporter: golden gate transit increased ferry prices by 50 cents today. last but not least drivers are paying 25 cents more to drive across the golden gate bridge and will continue to do so every year until 2018. >> this tol increase over the course of five years will raise about $138 million which pretty

here is a look at primetime tonight. the middle at 8:00 followed by goldbergs and modern family and celebrity wife swap. the white house fence is getting renovations to deter jumpers. today the secret service and national park service began installing sharp metal points at the top of the fence amid concerns over security breaks there. the agencies say the spikes are removable and call them a temporary solution. it is expected to take six weeks to get all spikes strauled. the agencies are looking into more long term fixes to stop people from hopping the white house fence. you can take pictures and engage during public tours of the white house. first lady michelle obama posted
