>> it's sunday july 5. good morning. i'm chris nguyen in for carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick look at the forecast. here's lisa argen track live doppler hd. >> hi, chris. we have low clouds and fog and mist and drizzle as well. the marine layer well into the valleys. maybe 2,000 feet deep or 2500 feet deep. we will look at the possibility of showers and thunderstorms in the sierra nevada but overall the carolina afternoon highs you will notice. 63 in hayward, 61 fremont. and san jose, as well as los gatos. the plan today is for the high clouds and the mid-level clouds to eventually clear back to the

coast, about you that brings the 60s and 70s mainly around the bay. we will tell you how much it continues as we continue the cooling much of the work week. chris. >> we develop a a story out of vacaville, a wind-blown fire is caused evacuations is now 30% contained. fire broke out after 11:00 last night on the back side of keating park. residence of terrace, hidden cortes atherton and sell by courts were advised to leave. you hear the wind whistling as it fans the flames. last word it was 325 acres. so far the cause of the fire is not released. all evacuations should be lifted around 6:00 a.m.

you see the flames came up to this new subdivision road. flames were whipped by 15 miles per hour winds. it was a very busy night for firefighters in contra costa county. in fact firefighters had their hands full with brush fires burning between bay point and brentwood. this is where a grass fire came close to en a apartment complex at lone tree way. it may have been sparked by a fireworks show that ended moments later. illegal fireworks have displaced four people in san jose. officials say a neighbor's fireworks landed in the backyard of a home just before 10:00 last night. it quickly started a two-alarm fire that spread to the fight. back of the home suffered moderate damage. the flames were put out in about 25 minutes. oakland firefighters respond

today another illegal fireworks fire on sky lynn boulevard. it was just before 10:00 when a vegetation fire broke out about 200 feet off the road. fire officials say bystanders confirmed the accidental blaze was started by fireworks. it grew to about a quarter acre but was very difficult to get to because of steep terrain and tall vegetation. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana said the illegal fireworks in the bay area began early and often. >> before the sunset official fireworks displace wind off. this is cell phone video of illegal fireworks in oakland. police across the area have been especially concerned. >> we urge people, especially during the tough times with the drought and the dry conditions that fireworks can be very damaging. >> this is why they are concerned. crews spent hours battling a brush fire in the oakland hills. justin noticed the showing before his afternoon run. >> a bunch. hikers told me to stop and turn

around. they said there was big fire that just happened, and they just witnessed fireworks going off and the fire starting around that and they were actively starting the fire department. >> and he also heard something. >> it's fourth of july they might have been having to have fun but that's the wrong place to have fun. >> investigators found a firework on the hill and they determined eats what started the brush fire that consumed about three acre. no homes were damaged but it was still a scary afternoon this brought back memories of the deadly fire here in 1991. >> all ofnous the neighborhood remember the oakland firestorm. and all of us know that it's a drought and we are all very worried about one little firework setting a fire right up over the top of this hill right into our homes. >> the almeda county sheriff's office said they devoted four deputies in patrol for illegal fireworks in hopes of keeping the holiday a save one. abc7 news. >> take a look at the show of mostly illegal fireworks in the east bay. this video was reported last night from our emeryville camera

t shows a nonstop display of professional grade pyrotechnics lighting up the oakland skyline. >> now to the legal ones and one. biggest and brightest shows in the bay area. a huge crowd gathered along the waterfront to watch last night. they could hear them burks could they see them? leslie brinkley has more. >> from pier 39 to the marina green, four barges in the bay launched 10,000 fireworks from tubes controlled by computers. patriotic precision half obscured by the fog. a lot of people gave up and left after only five minutes. >> you can't really enjoy the show and it is not worth staying for. >> but just coming here cost a lot. >> it was $50 to park. and earlier in the evening sparklers on their heads, flags on their back the crowds around on to ledges and grassy spots to stake out a place to watch the

revived last year after a decade of budget cutting and the recession. but employee pay cuts and staff shortages made it d to spend money on the spectacle. so members of the local rotary club funded the show this year as well as last year. ♪ ♪ >> oh yeah! abc7 news was in downtown redwood city for one of the largest 4th of july celebration necessary the bay area. that's the stanford university band getting in the action, complete with everything else. it featured a concert and fireworks show last night. in alameda people were out early yesterday morning to get good seats for one of the largest fourth of july parades in the country. around 170 floats and 2500 people took part in the celebration. the city builds the 3-mile parade route as the longest in the u.s. and typically draws more than 2,000 spectators from around the bay area. we want to see how you are celebrating the holiday season. send us your pictures and video

using the hashtag abc7 now and we may owe it on error online. >> authorities are out looking for a teenage boy who fell off an inner tube and into the water. investigators tell us the boy was getting towed behind a watercraft before he went in. divers spent the afternoon looking for him and into the evening but he wasn't wearing a life jacket. >> even strong swimmers should wear life jackets especially being towed. >> the water is 200 to 250 feet deep in the area where he fell. at least $300,000 in donation less go toward a santa clara family bury their mother. sonya died last week after falling into a river in sacramento. the body builder was celebrating her new u.s. citizenship last sunday at the rage on the river event when she somehow fell into the water.

firefighters rescued her but she died on wednesday. she leaves behind two adult children. if you want to help with the barrel expenses, go to our website abc7news.com. abc7 news has obtained new video showing the arrest of a man killing -- a man who killed a woman last week. he admitted to shooting katie steinlely and it was accidental. he said he wanted to shoot at sea lions and his gun accidentally discharged. steinle lived in san francisco but was a native of pleasanton. this video shows the moment he was taken into custody by police about an hour after the shooting last wednesday evening. it was finished along the embarcadero near pier40 by a bystander. we have a link to this on our website abc7news.com.

karen traverse, abc news, washington. taking you now to san diego county, where no one was seriously injured when a small plane crashed on a crowded beach in carlsbad yesterday. single-engine aircraft was towing an ad banner when it lost power. people on the beach got out of the way so it could land but the piper aircraft flipped over when it tried to top. a boy on the beach is treated for a cut on his head. he is expected to be okay. and the pilot was not hurt. state investigate horse will look into why a tree fell in mt. diablo state park in the east bay and injuring new campers, one seriously. >> park officials say a portion of this tree came crashing down at mt. diablo state park around 10:30. two men were injured. >> we thought what is that crackling, maybe fireworks

fourth of july? then it just started crashing and a loud boom. >> her family were in tents nearby. >> i was like really scared because i didn't know what happened. >> according to park officials a portion of the tree crashed into the campgrounds where two families were staying. one man had a minor back injury and was taken to the hospital as precautionary measure. another had more serious head injuries and was airlifted to the hospital. >> i've had some bad lump campingping myself but never that bad. >> experts will come from sacramento to get a closer look at the plea and investigate why a portion of it may have fallen. >> in the midst of it, families left their belongings behind mind, including children's toys. some left and said they were too upset to speak on camera. they said their friend was in the hospital but hopefully would recover and be released soon. besides the area taped off, the park is otherwise open. melanie woodrow abc7 news.

bay area in the week ahead lisa. >> the almeda county fair and the marina county fare and the jazz festival. today is more of a cooling trend bay area wide. that means we are taking the 90s out of the forecast. yesterday we did have one. the concord airport was at 91 and actually gilroy at 90, morgan hill 91, as well. a couple out there, and today we are looking at numbers about five degrees cooler. last check, the southwest wind was gusting to nearly 40 miles an hour by the delta. so certainly that cooler air getting transported over into the east bay and we will look for the highs to continue to slide each and every day. live look outside this morning. it looks pretty good out there. but, you know, right along the coast there is plenty of mist and drizzle out there. 61 in san jose. you don't have any of it in the santa clara valley or in the south bay. looking at 59 morgan hill. cooling for you today. about a mile visibility half

moon bay. 59 in san francisco. 61 in oakland. here's a view from mt. tam. the sun coming up at about 5: 5:5:53. yesterday numbers were once again topping out around 90. it will be probably next weekend when we warm up again. 57 santa rosa, 59 napa. between now and then we could see the subtropical moisture meed our way. this is the only clear spot for now. this is at the airport. looks pretty good. south of san francisco and also partly cloudy skies further south around san jose. mist and drizzle near the coast. everyone else except here experiencing more clouds. and the cooling trend. a gradual one each and every day. maybe some subtropical moisture by wednesday thursday. then finally will get into a warmer pattern. but the reason being interesting enough, there is an area of low pressure west of san francisco. kind of to the south and west. you can see it down there. and this is just going to sit

sky. chuck sievertson, abc news, new york. >> this morning building inspectors in north carolina are examining a deck that collapsed at a beach house injuring 25 people and sending 14 to the hospital. it was an accident that echoed the recent tragedy in berkeley. officials say a family who was renting the beachfront house posed on the deck for a picture. a 12 by 12 section of the deck gave way falling 10 feet to the ground. two of the injured are in critical condition. happening now, millions of greeks are voting this morning on a referendum that could have far-reaching consequence force economies around the world. huge rallies were held yesterday for both sides of the referendum. voters are being asked to choose yes or no to accepting more austerity depends from creditors. a no vote could mark an exit from the 19-nation eurozone.

five republican candidates all campaigned at july fourth parades in new hampshire yesterday. front-running democrat hillary clinton drew big crowds there as well. she told them she wants to be the small business president. her challenger, bernie sanders, campaigned yesterday in iowa. and take a look at this picture taken by a news reporter covering the clinton campaign. you can see reporters were kept away from the candidates, back behind a vote. and rick perry will take a break from campaigning and join george stephanopoulos for an interview? morning. he will speak to why people will vote for him and comment on the recent decisions on obamacare and same-sex marriage. it airs this morning right here on abc7. the battle over same-sex marriage may not be over,

despite of the ruling. constitutional scholars say it's legal to refuse same-sex marriage but there could be other things to force them that are against their beliefs. we have more from san jose. >> as much as the san jose decision changed the world for same sex cup he is, it hasn't changed the beliefs of conservative christians who refuse to marry them. >> this isn't a case of dislike or hatred or bigotry, it's a case of personal convictions, according to the scriptures and my leaf and sovereign to me. >> the unknown is weather forcing churches to marry same-sex couples could be the next hurdle. there was a church 35 years ago that stripped a university of their tax-exempt status because of refusing to racial rulings.

pretty nice day around the bay with some subtle cooling around the bay, but more significant cooling inland. that's in our inland east bay out by the delta. yesterday we had a few 90s. in and this morning. low clouds and fog banked up along the short line r we have been there's mist and drizzle and reduced visibility. we will get to that but i also want to show you this area of cloud cover. it is drifting to the southwest of san francisco. it's going to be here, trying to drift northward all week long. we will play an important element in our forecast day-to-day. and we also have some showers and thunderstorms up by i-5 in mount shasta this morning. here's a look at partly cloudy conditions from emeryville where numbers range from 57 half moon bay to the low 60s oakland and san jose. it's been pretty nice in the south bay. really no changes there today. and we will look for more sun in the north bay but a little breezier and the mist and drizzle closer to the coast. mt. tam this morning, 57 santa

rosa, 59 in napa. 60 by the delta. winds have been anywhere from 35 to 40 miles an hour this morning. that's why you are going see the cooling, feel the cooling from our inland east bay today. so yesterday it was pretty pleasant, but it was on the warm side. and today a little less of that. so here's a clear look at sfo. mist and drizzle by the coast. otherwise partly cloudy this morning. and each and every day we will bring in some cooling and by the middle to latter part of the work week perhaps moisture headed our way from that low. and some moisture from the sub tropics. warmer weather but not until next weekend. so if you want it cooler, here is the culprit. this is why we will be seeing low clouds and fog each and every day. really no changes. so if you haven't seen the sun in san francisco, and we know you haven't seen it at the coast, really we aren't going to see any more of it in the week ahead. so as the low continues to drift, we will look for the

temperatures to be comfortable around the bay and inland and the mid-afternoon sun. looking at numbers in the sierra nevada each and every day, a chance of showers and storms in the mountains. that's due to the drifting low. and the subtropical moisture. partly cloudy today in l.a. 74. 80 in tahoe. and for the week ahead, here's where the numbers will continue to slide. in the south bay numbers should be in the low 80s. today about 81. 79 tomorrow. then bottoming out midweek with mid-70s. pretty comfortable. but elsewhere you may be wanting to see the sun. not here today from the city through half moon bay. 74 san mateo partly sunny. 79 palo alto. 85 fairfield. that's a switch for you. and another a's game today with the mariners. upper 60s at 1:00 and the west wind about 17 miles an hour. the accuweather seven-day forecast. a few 90s by brentwood, otherwise more like the 80s

>> it's sunday july 5th. good morning. i'm chris nguyen in for carolyn tyler. here's lisa argen tracking live doppler 7hd. hi, chris. >> we have an interesting fog formation with mist and drizzle at the coast. some of the fog has drifted to the east but otherwise we have clear areas. so really running the gamut this morning but overall some cooling in our inland east bay thanks to this. isn't it beautiful from mt. tam? the marine layer over 2,000 feet deep here. you folks along the coast and marin county experiencing the wipers this morning with plenty of mist. otherwise it's a nice morning from mountain view 61. 60 in san jose. also some clearing there and at the airport it's beautiful, 59 morgan hill. here's the fog footprint. some areas allowing for some leftover cloud cover in the north bay but overall left heat

inland with low 80s for you. >> thank you. we begin with news out of vacaville. the fire broke out just after 11 last night on the back side of keating park. residence of some areas were is advised to leave to an evacuation center. you hear the wind whistling as it fans the flames. at last report the fire was as 320 acres. so far the cause of the fire has not been released. all voluntary evacuations have now been lifted.
