i feel like there's one big story today. the triumphant members of team usa. >> the team made history. they're going the get a lot of new gear as they head home from canada. >> the most important part of all, the new stuff, a third star right above the team's logo symbolizing the third world title. alex stone with the details. >> reporter: team usa stormed the field running toward redemption. four years ago, they lost championship game to japan in this agonizing penalty kick shootout. the u.s. struck first and fast on its first two shots of the game carli lloyd putting the americans ahead, 1-0, only three minutes into play. three minutes later, another goal. carli lloyd. the two fastest goaling in women's world cup history. lauren holiday scored a third unanswered goal for the u.s.

the vote could jeopardize the relationship with key creditors. the head lines in greece newspapers announce the stunning vote. ♪ a late night of celebrations in the country after a large majority of greek citizens said no rejectioning an international bailout plan. >> i have a dream for all these people. e we say no because, we have a dignity. >> reporter: millions turned out for the historic referendum sunday. the 61-39% vote called by the country's prime minister caused negotiations with creditors to fall apart and greece defaulted on a loan payment. already today, scenes of chaos have returned. more rioting with police in athens. and another day of long lines at a atms, where customers can only withdraw $67 a day.

greece's finance minister cheered the no vote. >> where there is a will there is a way. so much to lose for greece and the creditors if we fail. >> reporter: this morning, it's not clear when or if those talks will we zum. leaving the future of the cash-strapped country and it's eurozone currency in question. greece desperately needs an emergency injection of cash from europe. germany's chancellor is traveling today to meet with the french president. other leaders are set to meet tomorrow to discuss the consequences of the greek vote. >> we'll be watching. bazi can nanny, live in washington. thank you so much. turn to the nuclear talks with iran. john kerry says they could go either way. he made it clear the u.s. was prepared to walk away if a sound agreement could not be reached on cutting off potential path ways for an iranian atomic bomb. pope francis is starting his

( rock music playing ) ♪ we weren't born to follow. ♪ well, a stunning development in a san francisco murder. the suspect has confessed. during the jailhouse interview with abc affiliate kgo, francisco sanchez insisted the shooting was an accident. he says he found a gun wrapped inside a shirt and when he picked it up, he heard three shots go off. kate steinley was gunned down during a walk along the waterfront with her family -- her father rather and family friend. and that murder now the center

of a heated immigration reform. sanchez is a convicted felon and undocumented immigrant. he's been deported five times, most recently in 2009. the convicted killer who survived after a prison break and manhunt in new york has been moved from the hospital to a new prison. after recovering from gunshot wounds david sweat is now on suicide watch. he'll spend 23 hours a day in maximum security cell in a prison in central new york. the 105-square-foot cell has a bed, toilet, sink, and shower. he'll be allowed to leave for one hour of exercise a day. well, the movie "magic mike xxl" apparently not xxl enough. it was an unimpressive fourth place opening at the box office. "jurassic world" was in first. raking in nearly $31 million in its fourth week. "inside out" in second with just over $30 million. and "terminator: genisys" debuted in the number three spot with $28 million. when it comes to fast food restaurants, chick-fil-a is number one. that's according to the american

plains and southwest. >> if you're flying, airport delays possible in kansas city and minneapolis. well a family vacation in north carolina ends in disaster. a deck collapse sends 24 people to the hospital. group was posing for a photo when the deck gave way. they fell 14 feet to the ground. >> authorities say rusty nails are to blame for the collapse. five heem repeople remain in the hospital. among the victims, a 5-year-old boy. a frantic search continues at daybreak for three people missing after a deadly july 4th boating accident near louisville, kentucky. two people were killed when their boat hit a barge and capsized as thousands gathered to watch a fireworks show. four people from the boat were rescued. police say a child is among the missing. and a 12-year-old boy is recovering after, you see that. a small plane crash-landed on a crowded california beach. this single-engine piper that tows banner ads came barrelling toward families. enjoying the holiday weekend. this was near san diego. it clipped a boy who was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. the plane landed upside down in the sand.

but the 23-year-old pilot walked away without injuries. >> incredible there. a maryland woman has been charged after her 6-week-old infant was found on the side of the road in a carseat. the woman called the police after they posted the photo on social media. she initially said the little girl was in the father's care. police later determined she removed the infant from the car and left her on the side of the road. the baby is in the care of social services. rescuers had to use power drills and sledge hammers to free a young man stuck in a chimney in phoenix, with temperatures offering around the triple digits. he was wedged there for half an hour. exhausted and covered in soot. he got stuck while trying to get back in the house after his friends locked him out as a joke. >> ha ha. we turn now to the future of a top pro football player. a lot of people wondering how his career will go now after a fireworks accident. new york giants defensive end jason pierre paul suffered a hand injury at or near his home

in south florida as he lit some of the explosives. the extent of the injury not clear at this point. the two-time pro bowler has not yet signed his contract offer. he's hoping for a better one. we'll see how that works out. we'll stick with sports here. a horrific crash brought nascar's holiday weekend to a close a matter of hours ago. >> it happened at daytona. cars making contact, sending driver austin dillon's car sailing into the fence. it landed on its roof. >> crew members from several teams raced to check on dillon. who, yeah, get this. he was fine. several fans treated for minor injuries. the fence dillon flew into was mangled. dale earnhardt jr. won the race that ended early this morning because of a long rain delay. always amazed to see these guys walk away from those horrific crashes. they build those cars to sustain those wrecks. >> you wouldn't think so, but you're absolutely right. we turn to "the pulse" next. we got more on team usa's big win. reaction from the president and first lady.

tree. you can see the car hype us. it is still here and police are investigating the scene actively. it happened five hours ago. the suspect's car a honda has bullet holes. it could be hard to see in the dark. witnesses heard a loud crash and shots fires. witnesses saw police pull the suspect out of the car. they thought he was dead but first responders came out and took the man to a local hospital. we are still waiting to find out from officials more information about what happened and we do not know how many officers were involved or if anyone else was hurt. the shooting is still "under investigation," and the scene remains closed. >> new details in the deadly police shooting in pleasanton after officers responded to a
