live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> we came in, we could barely get into the door because the lines were so long. >> i am not pleased. >> a computer glitch grounds united airlines flights from coast to coast trapping travelers at sfo while i.t. experts scramble. >> i am kristen sze. >> i am it it. united flights are taking off again but the delays could be around for a while. our reporter is at sfo with the latest. >> that is right we are feeling the effects of the network connectivity disruption from this morning right now at sfo. as you said, most flights are on time but we are seeing delays in

terms of flights that have yet to arrive at sfo perhaps because they were grounded someplace else earlier than they can arrive and go on to their next destination. most passengers remaining calm but they are frustrated necessity did not get more information from united airlines employees saying all of the updates were coming from social media and news websites and word of mouth. >> long lines and a lot of people at sfo's united terminals. >> i am not pleased. >> we came in we could barely get into the door because the lines were so strong. >> united said the network connectivity issue caused the backup. specifically, an issue with the router according to a united airlines spokesman. the issue impacted the ability to communicate data to planes on the ground. that is why the federal aviation administration grounded all flights. united said nights in the air were not directly affected and sfo boards were filled with delays. passengers say united airlines

representatives did not share any information with them while they waited. >> it has been word of mouth. >> when the connectist issue was resolved, ticket agents worked to get passengers on their way. in some cases even holding flights. >> many passengers worried they missed connections. >> going to italy. >> with others enjoying a change of pace. >> it is nice to slow down. >> united said the issue was not a cyber attack or hacking. >> good news in all of this united airlines is waiving change fees for anyone who needs to change the flights. thanks. now, a look at united delays. international airport with no cancellations. united airlines does not fly out of oakland international so there are no problems there. >> united is not the only ones dealing with computer problems but we have developing news on wall street where trading has been suspended at the new york stock exchange. all activity on the stock exchange floor came to a halt before 9:00 our time. in a tweet the stock exchange said and i quote "the issue we are expensing is an internal technical issue and is not the result of a cyber breach." they say they are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. shares are still trading on the nasdaq and other exchanges. >> "wall street journal" website is also experiencing technical problems this morning and this is the error message visitors saw as they try today leg on to ws.com partly back up and running now. so far, no evidence these incidents are connected. >> more revelations in the shooting death of a woman at san

francisco's pier 14 additional details we have learned of the gun used in the killing. our reporter is in the newsroom. amy? sources are saying the gun belongs to a federal employees and it was the employee's personal gun not given to the employee for his or her job. >> sources say the glock semi-automatic handgun was stolen from the federal agent's car in san francisco last month. that agent believed to be an employee of the bureau of land management much the attorney for the suspect, francis coe sanchez, played it close to the vest raising the question of how sanchez ended up with the gun but not answering it. where did the gun come from? >> sanchez said in a jailhouse interview that he found the gun wrapped in a d shirt under a bench and said when he picked it up here heard three booms and did not realize he shot kate steinle until he was arrested an hour later. the public defender hinted this would be his defense.

>> very woman could be a completely accidental discharge of a firearm. the point that was made in court is that preliminarily speaking, you have an individual that does not know the victim in this case. >> the case is getting national tension. in part because of san francisco's sanctuary city policy. sanchez was released from san francisco's jail although federal officials requested he be turned over that their custody. he has a criminal record and was already deported five times. this morning the case came up on capitol hill during a press conference about gun control. >> last week in san francisco our city suffered our own senseless act of gun violence with the killing of kate steinle and our thoughts and prayers are with her family today. >> the bureau of of land management is investigating the loss of that gun. the federal agency has about 300 sworn officers acts, who are armed enforcing laws and

regulations on public land. >> stay with abc7 for continuing coverage of the pier 14 shooting on air and online with reporting continuing on twitter@abc7newsbayarea. >> traffic on the bay bridge is back to normal. there was a van fire that caused a serious backup during the morning commute. you can see the van is not on the road. the flames caused a major rubbernecking delay. sky 7 was overhead to capture the backup. firefighters got the flames under control around 6:30. one person went to the hospital with buns. traffic dealing with that fire was facing delays because of a three-car accident near treasure island that closed three westbound lanes and triggered a sig-alert and caused a major domino effect into san francisco and beyond. crews had it cleared by 6:30 and traffic slowly returned to normal. >> san francisco may not have seen the last of a mountain lion that has been spotted several times in recent days. some officials think the big cat

could be headed south out of the city but fish and wildlife officers are not so sure. abc7 reporter janet o is in the presidio to explain. janet? >> yes, a mountain lion was the forked here a week ago in the presidio but they believe it is still here trying to make a new home and they want you to look out. >> it is an unusual site for san francisco, this young mountain lion was spotted walking along the sidewalk in a neighborhood as shown in the surveillance video snapshot. >> that is crazy. you do not know what they will do. unpredictable. there have been a total of five sightings reported recently starting on june 29 when the mountain lion was spotted in daly city and twice the following day once in sea cliff and once in the presidio. july 1 the cat was spotted not too far from city hall. the most recent sighting on july 3 near lake merced.

officials say mountain lions have not been spotted in san francisco in years and they are usually found further south in the bay area. >> the interesting part of the mountain lion is not that there is a lion but how did it get there? this lion maybe has found its little place of open space that it came from and more than likely will stay there. >> fish and wildlife say a possible explanation why there have been more mountain lion sightings in the bay area is because of the drought. >> primary food for mountain lion is deer so if they are moving into areas they are not necessarily supposed to be, it would make sense the lions are going to follow the deer. >> if you see a mountain lion experts say do not run but use yell, wave your arms and throw objects at it to scare it off and reports the sighting to police or animal criminal. reporting in the presidio are for abc7 news. >> vallejo police are sending for the gunman who shot and killed the woman as she was

driving down the street. she and a man were in a car on broadway near louisiana street when gunshots were fired year afternoon. the couple drove ten more blocks to capital and alameda and they realized she was shot. she died at the hop. a few hours later, sky 7 showed police and swat teals surrounding a home at broadway and ohio street. they searched for a "person of interest" but did not find anyone. there is no word on what the couple was targeted or whether the shooting was random. >> this morning, a napa teen is speaking out after surviving a deadly ice collapse in a cave in washington state. the cave was showing signs of trouble. a smaller collapse was caught on camera on sunday a day before the accident that claimed the life of a woman and injured five others. the massive ice cave was popular with hikers including 18-year-old chloe, hiking with

nation," is the first of the netflix films debuting starting october 16. netflix is making a push to work with some of hollywood's busiest names. >> new this morning microsoft announced they are laying off up to 7800 people from the smartphone business. they had 190,000 employees at the end of march 7 percent of the workforce. the layoffs are a few weeks after microsoft c.e.o. publicly admitted disappointment with their online display advertising business which ended up selling to aol. >> this morning anaheim approve add deal to extend a tax ban on disney land for 30 years in admission and in exchange, they will invest $1 billion to upbraid and expand disneyland and california adventure requiring disney to begin construction by the end of 2017 and complete the expansion in seven years. disney is the parent company of abc7. >> still cloudy and microsoft

unlikely driver in kentucky is making other drivers do a double take. this skeleton has been spotted cruising down roads in louisville the work of a mechanic andrew johnson. he bought a jeep with the steering wheel on the right side of the car and had a fake steering wheel put on the left side. he said the ramp started two halloween ago and it never failed to turn heads. >> is he bad to the bone? >> i wrote say that is one skeletal crew. >> there we go. now, a check with meteorologist mike nicco and your turn to follow that >> it is a "hollow," effort after halloween. >> ha, ha. >> yours were better. now, what is going on, everyone? you cannot see a lot because it is diffused but it is just gray and you can see the flag blowing to the east with the marine layer to around 3500 to 4,000 feet with moisture in it and i am feeling the drops continuing in the afternoon from san

francisco and most of our coastal communities. a look at live doppler hd shows you where the real action is heating up and you can see the lightning bolts north of yosemite heading up to a thunderstorm moving through here and the next three hours it is getting more active in the mountains to the north from ukiah to eureka north of chico which is the "ring of fire," if you will out of the thunderstorms and the chances of them the next 36-48 hours. focusing on the winds at 13 miles per hour in livermore and live doppler hd showing napa and novato at ten and 26 in fairfield and those will pick up. but like they were on monday they will be mainly north of the bay bridge and same timeframe the last to days from 2:00 to 9:00 and the southwest wind at 21 to 33 knots will be brisk and choppy later today. here is a look at visible satellite you can see just the straight onshore push of air and moisture that will break up a little bit but we still have delays at sfo of 49-50 minutes

and those in the next hour are so along with the cloud cover will start to dissipate and even san jose is looking cloudy at this hour, this is the reason why, our temperatures are up to nine degree cooler than 24 hours ago. you can see cloudiness there and it will remain this for better part of today. isolated thunderstorm today and tomorrow and sandwiched between our best chance of anything measurable tomorrow morning with drizzle and next then back to normal next week. 70s in most bay neighbors and low 80s headed into inland neighborhood tomorrow. at the game, although we will have mostly cloudy conditions and low-to-mid 60s the u.v. index will be very high. it should be comfortable. drizzle tonight and temperatures are cooler than this morning upper 50s to low 60s. here is the area of low pressure coming ashore and you can see the counter-clockwise flow bringing us the deck of clouds today and the chance of a thunderstorm mainly to our northeast today and mainly those

same areas but tonight into tomorrow it will have a boater chance as we look at drizzle tomorrow a better chance tomorrow of seeing something developing at clear lake, lake county, mendocino county and possibly, northern sonoma county. there could be an isolated shower elsewhere but that would be the best area. temperatures are still below average even friday when we start to see the low pull away and in the wake high pressure builds in and by monday and tuesday we are still looking at 60s at the coast and more 80s and 90s around the bay and inland neighborhood so summer is coming back but it will take awhile and hopefully the drizzle will keep the fire danger down a little bit longer. mike, thank you. a louisiana woman is fighting back after a body shaming incident at an old navy store property her to tears. you may have seen this photo of of rachel tailor. she went shopping for july view
