handgun found the day after the shooting was a gun like this, glock semi-automate police believe francisco sanchez used in the shooting death of kate steinle. he was rested for the murder and they believe it belongs to an agent. the public defender's office represent sanchez. >> shocking when abc7 revealed that this gun belonged to a federal agent, we said what? >> reporter: the gun was stolen from the car of the ranger from the bureau of land management. the agency said it happened june 27th in downtown san francisco. the question is did sanchez steal it? in a jailhouse interview with abc7 news sunday sanchez says he found it under a bench on the pier wrapped in a t-shirt and it went off accidentally. >> i hear the boom boom three times. >> he has no theft convections so we have no reason to believe he was responsible for taking this gun. >> reporter: he believes it's a

off a search for a man who allegedly assaulted a police officer today. the officers approached two people in a suspicious vehicle around 9:30 this morning. officers were able to arrest one of them but got into an altercation with the other who then ran away. officers and canine units search searched the area for three hours before calling off that search. today a judge sentenced a woman to 30 years to life in prison for killing a couple in october of 2013. prosecutors say she got behind the wheel after a day of heavy drinking and veered off the street hitting this couple who were walking their dog. she was on probation for a du icon conviction at the time of the collision. there has been another mountain lion sighting in san francisco. this time near sea cliff. live tonight from inspiration point with the story. wayne. >> reporter: dan this is an area we should note mountain

trades dropped sharply and put puttered for a few minutes. what happened and what does all this mean for the average investor. david louie is live in san jose with an explanation. david. >> reporter: if you absolutely had to buy or sell stocks today, you could have done so on another u.s. market such as inside or nasdaq or overseas. >> it became apparent some stock orders were not being processed. it became clear that some were due to a software upgrade and the all electronic system was malfunctioning. david lewis is vice president of raymond james brokerage. >> in interest of fairness people closer to it have an advantage and rather than worry about that they shut everything down so it's equal. >> reporter: the suspension of tradeing went past two hours.

the system was finally fixed after close to four hours. the halt came on a day when markets around the world are continuing to worry about the debt crisis in greece and major sell-off in chinese stock markets. it's not likely the average investor got hurt today according to finance and investment professor at santa clara university. >> most people are not aware of the tradeing and certainly not trying to trade. the only situation if you're closeing on a house and had to sell stocks today and that would be a real problem but not for very many people. >> reporter: the federal monitor monitors monitored the situation but took no abc news after being assured -- took no action after being assured it wasn't a cyber attack. >> we were told there was no malicious action in the technology issues. >> it makes me nervous like something isn't working so i am

concerned. >> reporter: in san jose, david louie, abc7 news. >> there were more computer problems, this time with united airlines. a company spokesperson says a network connectivity problem specifically with issue with a router grounded flights for two hours causeing major delays across the system and across the country flights are slowly returning to normal. frustrated travelers at sfo says the situation was a nightmare. >> when we came in we could barely get in the door because the lines were so long. >> reporter:passengers at the airport said they did not receive any information while they waited and it impact data to the planes on the ground and planes in the air were not in any danger. "wall street journal" also experienced technical problems this morning, the error message people saw when they went to log onto wjs.com and so far there is no evidence any of these glitch glitches is connected.

telling congress they want greater access to encrypted data. technology built into smart smartphones is making it harder to monitor and intercept message messages from criminal. the fbi director says it goes beyond that and cited an example how longed cell phones could affect family. >> one of your kids disappeared and their phone is left behind and it's locked we cannot tell you who they were texting with. i have five kids that is a big problem. >> not so much internet government as the fact you have to start imposeing requirements on the apps the american people were allowed to have access to. >> silicon valley companies are against greater access for data. they say it protects their communications and protects them from hackers. a leader in an irs scam who bilked 20$20 million from taxpayers here and across the country was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

he pleaded guilty to running a call center in india where workers impersonate irs and fbi agents and threaten americans with arrest and financial penalties if they didn't send money. the biggest targets were getting tricked out of 3.8$3.8 million. a bill that would have regulated electronic cigarettes has been dropped by its sponsor. state senator leno. they amended the bill and it could not face the same restrictions as cigarettes. leno said the change made the bill dangerous and something he no longer believed in and he pulled his support saying he was acting on behalf of the next generation of californians who have become addicted to nicotine as a result of your vote. a state lawmaker used a surpriseing visual aid to win support for his medical marijuana cultivation bill. assemblyman brought a full sized pot plan into the room and said
