abc7 news begins with breaking news. the breaking news is happening in chattanooga, tennessee where a gunman opened fire on two separate military locations injuring a police officer and at least two marines. good morning, i am eric thomas. >> i am kristen sze. new developments are coming in to the newsroom. we go to amy hollyfield with the latest. >> the latest information to the newsroom is two marines and a police officer were shot and the shooter is believed to have been shot and killed. authorities say it is no longer an active situation. this is unfolding in chattanooga, tennessee, at two separate military locations. they are seven miles apart. a combined armed forces

recruiting center and a navy reserve center. witnesses at the location say the shooter pulled up in a convertible mustang and fired from the car. it looked like he mad a high powered rifle. the city was in lockdown with people huddled inside restaurants and shops as emergency vehicles rushed up and down the streets looking for the shooter. counties advised people should stay indoors as a precaution. it is nerve wracking few hours with little information coming out and the mayor saying it was a horrific situation and they were trying to figure out how to handle it. >> witnesses were shaking long after the shooter sped away but it seemed unreal and was terrifying. >> we saw the silver convertible mustang and he was unloading some type of large rifle. >> initially i saw her coming to the door and i told her to go back. i just pulled off trying -- i

road exit around this corner here is fontaine road. police just opened the road. the crime scene is around the bend. they were investigating the 13th homicide of the year in san jose. a van crashed in front of the social security administration building on phone stain road in san jose just before 2:30 this morning. police arrived they found a man in the driver's seat with at least a gun hot wound. he was taken to the hospital. he died. officers canvassed the area for evidence. they questioned people staying at two hotels near. >> they told me to get up and talk to them. that is what i did. >> this homicide is the fifth in san jose in three weeks. because of increased violence in the city this summer police started a new enforcement of the this weekend targeting several areas with higher crime and gang activity. since that time two homicides have taken place including this. >> we have implemented a strategy to provide additional

resources in certain areas hotspots, in san jose. we are definitely concerned. we addressing the issues. >> his say the man in his late 40s so far no arrests. matt thanks. through this morning in pittsburg crews are watching for hotspots following a fire on a pallet lumberyard on industry road this is how it looked at 2:30 this morning. it burned through piles of wooden pal lets and video to two buildings and knocked out power. it took crews an hour to get the fire under control. the fire marshal said this caught fire three times over the past ten years. >> new details involving a high speed chase cross two countries that started at 10:00 last night in san lorenzo. two were arrested after crashing their car into several vehicles in walnut creek. one of the suspects ran off but
