. >> good morning, everyone. >> it's saturday july 18th. i'm chris winn. let's start with a quick look at the weather. hi lisa. >>ry chris. we will be tracking a few scattered rain showers throughout the day and maybe tonight and continuing into sunday. this morning the marine layer is over 2,000 feet deep. we have that to show you from mt. tam with a pretty sunrise right about now. and temperatures are mild. north bay in the mid-50s. 60s elsewhere. 63 mountain view and 62 oakland. look for the fog to stay at the coast. temperatures on just a couple degrees inland. 90s near antioch and brentwood. otherwise upper 80s livermore, 80s around the bay. and by the afternoon 60s at the coast. talk about the cloud cover, the humidity and where you might see a few showers the next couple of days in our next weather

segment. chris. >> lisa, thanks. now breaking news this morning. the total number of victims killed in thursday's shooting is now five. navy issued a statement confirming a sailor who was shot died early this morning. he had been in critical condition since the shooting. throughout the state of tennessee flags will be flown at half-staff until july 23rd to honor the five victims. authorities say the shooting suspect went on a shooting rampage as a shooting recruiting center and then drove to a navy and marine reserve center where he shot the victims. he was shot to death by police. 6:301 is our time. a fast-moving fire that erupted yesterday in southern california is just 5% contained. it started northeast of los angeles. it destroyed 20 vehicles and damaged four structures and prompted mandatory evacuations.

drones temporarily halted air tankers. the planes were grounded 50 minutes out of fear they would collide with the drones. >> the fire sparking an inferno on the highway. >> i could feel the heat. >> trucks bursting into flames. the brush fire jumped the freeway about 75 miles east of los angeles. >> authorities were bracing for injuries, including burns. >> we have approximately two to three structures involved. reports of people trapped. >> the fire consuming at least 3500 acres. the column of smoke miles high and it was so thick it cast a massive shadow. grinding traffic to a stop. dozens of cars abandoned. this video shows motorists run to go safety. some of them right past burning vehicles. >> we are trying to get out of the cars. >> i grabbed my kids and just ran up the hill. everyone was screaming.

cars were on fire. >> there it is. >> helicopters dropping water on the cars and firefighters spraying from the ground. laying down red lines of flame retardant, hoping to block the fire's progress. authorities issuing an evacuation order nearby where multiple homes were said to be threatened. firefighters are claiming a drone much like this one is slowing their response time. this is the third time this has happened in just the past four weeks. abc news los angeles. >> for the first time we are hearing the 911 call from dublin that led to a man in a kidnapping that they said was a hoax. the new details came to light last night on 230/20. they tied the man to the kidnapping of a woman. the connection between this crime and a home innovation two months later in dublin. >> it was suspicion. there was kerosene. and the subject in black had a

laser. he had been fighting with the subject. the husband fighting with the subject. he has a head injury, we have a medical. >> he left his cell phone upstairs. we have his cell phone. >> it was muller's cell phone that helped agents track down and arrest him in south lake tahoe. vallejo police are standing by their investigation and refuse to apologize to muller or her family. the court appearance is august 27th. dozens of friends last night paying tribute to a friend and former schoolmate at piedmont high school in san jose. 19-year-old john deming jr. was killed after a break in in a garage. >> candles to honor a fellow student, a scrimmage on the field and balloons to pay tribute to a young man now gone. friends came together for 19-year-old john deming jr.

>> his character was so peace loving and gentle. it's hard to believe tavares violent death. >> this is cell phone video of him singing the blues. he graduated from piedmont hills high school a year ago and had been focused on making music. his parents now want answers. >> i want to know the truth. i want to know why we were told everyone had a body cam and then the next thing we hear is he didn't, the officer did not. deming's mother said she was threatened at her own home when police served a search warrant after the shooting. >> i was afraid. and it's not often you go through your day and you have a gun pointed at you. >> detectives describe a break-in at a classic car garage that turned into a violent fight with an officer and ended with deming getting shot in the stomach and face. the police said the 19-year-old seemed unusually strong and didn't respond to multiple laser shots. toxicology tests for drug use hasn't been released.

the district attorney is still investigating. abc7 news. new details now on the berkeley balcony collapse. two more of the injured students from ireland are expected to return home within a week. irish media outlet "rte news" reports their doctors are working with medical teams in ireland to coordinate rehabilitation plans before transferring them home. palo alto, police are looking for a man stabbing a man after making racial comments. the sketch will show two of the men the officers are looking for. it will be on our website abc7news.com. the attack happened wednesday night in a parking garage in downtown palo alto. police say the men stuck a screwdriver into the 18 or 19-year-old victim's leg. the teenager wasn't seriously hurt but investigators are calling it a hate crime. new reports from the dmv said nearly 400,000 undocumented workers are now licensed drivers in california. the state just passed a law six months ago allowing them to legally get a license. katie marzullo has the details.

>> not too crowded at the dmv in san francisco on a friday afternoon. >> we've been able to get back to more normal numbers, more normal wait times. >> back in january when undocumented workers were first allowed to get a drivers license under assembly bill 60, the line stretched outside and around the building in san jose. >> the dmv estimated over the next three years we would have 1.4 million applicants apply for a driver's license and we weren't sure whether they would come in on the first day or if that was spread out over three years. >> the initial surge of nearly 400,000 licenses doesn't surprise immigration attorney, sarah sylvia taylor. >> there are so many people driving who are showing their interest in learning the rules of the road and they want to be a part of a saver society. they want to learn. >> she said the law increases public safety. and at least one dmv customer agrees. >> if somebody is driving

without a license and an accident happens, don't know who is driving and you don't know where they live. >> another customer says the law is fine by her, as well, as long as all drivers are held to the same standard. >> without knowing english it's hard for people to look up the rules. >> the license given to undocumented immigrants have several restrictions and do not allow any other benefits except legal diving. >> the search connected to a marijuana man in san jose has been called off. here's a picture of the 7500 plants seized from the park worth about $16 million. they arrested one person in the raid. the park was shut down during the search and it will reopen at 8:00 this morning. the medicinal marijuana industry is now helping your

pets. there is a pet job in berkeley where a dog treat is flying off the shelf. >> andrew said his dog suffered from anxiety, so he tried these biscuits called treatables. >> it calms him down and his anxiety so he wouldn't have tackles and wouldn't immediately be so on guard in the presence of other guards. >> the pet shop in berkeley said a lot of its customers claim that treatables are curing their dogs from everything from arthritis to epileptic seizures. >> i've never seen a product that's had such broad popularity and interest. >> it has a shelf full of calming treats for animals but the manager said these head-based treats seem to be more effective because they are infused with cannabinoids. >> we have receptors throughout our body so if anxiety is an

>> welcome back, everyone. >> one of mexico's largest volcanoes spewed a large column of ash into the sky early yesterday. this is mexico's national disaster prevention center said it vented 36 times and exploded twice. authorities hosted a yellow alert and urged people not to get close to the volcano and cover their nose and mouth with a damp cloth in case of an ash fall. the active volcano is just 43 miles outside of mexico city. >> after almost a one-year absence, the clock hands on the golden gate bridge toll plaza

clock is spinning again. crews removed the clock to refurbish it. it was placed back on its perch in april but the hands were reattached just a few days ago at the retrofitting ended. it has a new motor gearbox and electrical hiring. >> we all know that mowing your lawn can be a real chore, especially as you try to useless water during the drought. a good mower can make a big difference. >> if i was his neighbor i would be so relieved that he is having a party and will improve his lawn. >> good for him and good for the neighborhood. we have some weather in terms of cooling off the inner heat space slightly today. and then everyone gets a piece of subtropical moisture headed our way. in fact, it will last into monday. as the hurricane continues to die to the south of us with the tropical storm. look for the thunderstorms to push into southern california today. and for us it's the normal sunrise. we are looking at this element here. tropical storms that continues to be pulled up. winds of 40 miles an hour. about 45 miles an hour, gusts to 60. and thunderstorm activity from san diego is likely. in fact a flash flood watch for parts of southeastern california. high swells and into southern california today.

tuesday things get back to normal. speaking of normal, the low cloud deck. the sunday has come up very predictably at 6:00 this morning, setting at 8:30. and the low clouds at about 2 now feet. we are looking at some of them over into our east bay. they will clear and a sunny day today. still a little warm inland. but what you would expect for july. 62 oakland. 59 in san jose. and at the coast here's a look at san jose. back into the low 80s today. nice-looking day for you. cool numbers from napa to novato to santa rosa. mid-and upper 60s. 62 in livermore right now. and a final look from our exploratorium. you will see that we've got that deck of low clouds overlooking eastward. today it should be a nice day in our east bay with temperatures in the low 70s throughout oakland and emeryville. it will be warm inland all weekend long. muggy tomorrow and that's when

we see the possibilities of a shower. thunderstorms tomorrow in the northern sierra nevada. it's all due to the tropical system. high pressure sits well offshore. the steering currents allowing for the moisture to head up into southern california. and then for much of the mountains. here's the way it's going to play out. sunday morning is quiet. we have cloud cover. by about 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 could see a few light sprinkles. isolated showers are possible throughout the afternoon. and, in fact, we are going to do it all again with all the cloud cover, and moisture still in place for your monday. so by tuesday things getting back to a normal feel around here. aids walk tomorrow. more cloud cover. by 11:00 upper 60s and it will stay that way throughout much of the afternoon with mostly cloudy skies. and elsewhere around the bay, highs today ranging from the upper 80s concord, low 90s antioch, and 789 vallejo. 82 in san jose. 9 san rafael. low 80s toward santa rosa. the accuweather seven-day

? good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the forecasts. here's meteorologist lisa argen tracking the conditions where you live. hi lisa. >> good morning, kris. right now the low clouds and marine layer up to about 2,000 feet deep. notice the cloud cover. it will keep our temperatures fairly typical. 57 morgan hill. 59 in half moon bay with 63 in mountain view today. we will see the clouds pull back to the coast. the low clouds keeping our beaches cool once again. but 90s return inland. you see the orange con tour here. otherwise it's very pleasant today with a south winds. that will lead to increasing clouds. more humidity, and we could see a few sprinkles before the weekend is out. we will talk about that in detail in a few minutes. chris. >> lisa, thank you. time right now is 6:30 on your

saturday morning. we are taking a live look of the cahone fire. new details. northbound lanes on the 15 freeway are back open to traffic. now if you are familiar with this area in san bernardino county you notice the 15 freeway is the main route between southern california and las vegas. but as you can see, a lot of smoke. and flames are still visible throughout the area. the helicopter shot zooms in. containment is only at 5%. we are told that the cause of the fire is still unknown. but we do know that firefighters first responded to a report of a vehicle on fire yesterday. so we will have to wait and see as investigators try to determine what exactly started this fire. the fire has since burned at least 3500 acres. we will continue following this breaking news, this developing news out of san bernardino county. our coverage continues now on twitter, at abc7 news bay area.

6:31, the time. new this morning a bay area dairy farm is recalling one of their products because there might be pieces of plastic in it. clover stornetta farms is voluntarily recalling their 2% milk from grocery stores in northern california. the gallons, quartz, and half gallons have an expiration date of july 29th. the kerry said if you have already purchased the milk return it to the grocery store for a full refund >> president obama talked about the long-term deal earlier this week that will prevent iran from getting a nuclear weapon. he said it cuts off every pathway they could take to acquire a nuclear weapon. it will make the world safer and more secure. >> there's a reason the deem took so long to negotiate. because we refusion today accept a bad deal. we held out for a deal that met every one of our bottom lines and we got it.

spot at 56. and a look outside towards the bay bridge. warm inland through the weekend and then turning muggy tomorrow. isolated showers are possible sunday into monday before things get back to normal around here by tuesday. high pressure sitting well offshore. here's the tropical system. high pressure also to the east of us. and that's drawing up the moisture not only into california but into nevada, throughout the entire weekend. so we look forward to the thunderstorms from los angeles and san diego and higher surf, as well, all the way up through the beaches and santa cruz. elsewhere partly cloudy in the northern syria. 77 there. 93 in sacramento. you know we are barely going to be in the 90s here, more like 80s around the bay. 9:00 tomorrow morning notice the moisture begins to spread in here locally. so an isolated shower is possible through 2:00. you can see further south.
