it's saturday july 18th. thank you for joining us. let's start with a first look at the forecast. here is lisa tracking doppler hd for us. >> this keeps our temperatures so comfortable. our marine layer and things are going to change over the next day or so. showing the fog here. it's this we'll be tracking. flood warnings here throughout south eastern california. thunderstorms for much of l.a. it's the usual. a nice start to the day in san jose. enjoy today. it should be the warmest out there. 65 in concord and livermore. it's sunny low clouds will be bringing back to the coast but will keep the temperatures around the bay from not getting

too hot. low 90s toward brentwood. upper 80s in concord and 60s remain at the coast. >> developing news out of chattanooga. the total number of victims in thursday's shooting is five. the navy issued a statement confirming a sailor shot died early this morning. the navy statement did not give the sailor's name. he was identified earlier as navy petty officer second class randal smith, who was serving on active duty in chattanooga. he was in critical condition since the shooting. throughout the state of tennessee, flags will be flown half staff to honor those five victims. authorities say kuwait-born muhammed yousef abdulazeez went on a shooting spree. he was shot to death by police. the fbi has not detailed a motive, but the attacks are under investigation as a potential act of terrorism.

>> a fire erupted yesterday in southern california, but an infuriating question were efforts to fight those flames from the air delayed by the interference of amateur drone operators? let's take a look at video of the flames near hesperia northeast of los angeles. officials grounded fire fighting planes almost half hour out of fear drones would collide with the aircraft. abc news reporter matt guffman has the latest. >> an inferno racing up the hill leaping on to the road. cars semis even boats bursting into flames. nearly 30 vehicles damaged. some turned into charged metal husks. the fire burning thousands of acres, moving so fast this family narrowly missing it. >> oh my god. >> you can feel the heat. >> the scene apocalyptic. exodus of motorists taking to the hills. sedans on single track roads this man from michigan on his first trip to california.

>> people running up the hill. it was a nightmare. >> his kids taking it hardest. >> i grabbed my kids. everyone was screaming. cars were on fire, blowing up. >> squadrons of jets dropping tons of flame retardant. helicopters dumping buckets of water on burning cars. >> that fire creating a massive curtain of smoke looming over oak hill. only 5% contained. the fire consumed more than 3,000 acres. >> where do you want me to go? >> get in your truck and leave. >> emergency efforts delayed because of interference of five personal drones in the area. abc news los angeles. for the first time, we are hearing the 911 calls from dublin that led investigators to the man accused in a kidnapping that vallejo police call a cocaine. details came to light last night on "20/20."

abc 7 news reported earlier the connection between that crime and a home invasion two months later in dublin. >> it was muller's cell phone that helped agents track down and arrest him in south lake tahoe. police are stand buying their investigation and refuse to apologize to huskins on her family. muller is scheduled to be in court august 27th. 8:004. dozens of friends paid tribute to a friend and former school mate. john denning jr was killed by an officer during a break-in and scuffle at a classic car garage in pleasanton. >> candles to honor a student, a scrimmage for a former player on

the field and balloons to pay tribute to a young man now gone. friends came together for john demming jr. >> it was a violent death. >> this is cell phone video of him singing the blues. he graduated from piedmont hill high school a year ago and had been focused on making music. his parents want answers. >> i want to know the truth. i want to know why we were told everybody had a body cam then the next thing we hear is he didn't the officer did not have a body cam. >> his mother said she was threatened when police served a search warrant after the shooting. >> i was afraid you know. it's not often you go to your gate and you have a gun pointed at you. >> detectives drive a break-in at a classic car garage that turned into a violent fight with officer and ended with demming getting shot in the stomach and face. they said he seemed unusually

strong. toxicology tests have not been released. the department declined to comment further because the district attorney is still investigating. abc 7 news. now to new details in the berkeley balcony collapsed. two more of the injured students from ireland are expected to return home within a week. the irish media outlet ret news reports their doctors are working with medical teams in ireland to coordinate rehabilitation plans before transferring them home. police are looking for three men accused of stabbing a man after making racial comments. sketches show two of the men that officers are looking for. the attack happened wednesday night in a parking garage in downtown palo alto. police say the men stuck a screwdriver into the 18 or 19-year-old victim's leg. the teenager wasn't seriously hurt but investigators are calling it a hate crime. a new report from the dmv says nearly 400,000 undocumented workers are now licensed drivers

in california. the state just passed a law six months ago allowing them to legally get a license. abc 7 news reporter katie marzullo has more. >> reporter: not too crowded on a friday afternoon. >> we've been able to get back to more normal numbers and normal wait times. >> reporter: back in january when undocumented workers were first allowed to get driver's licenses, the line stretched outside and around the building. >> dmv estimated we would have 1.4 million 8060 applicants apply for a driver's license. we weren't sure whether they would come in on the first day or if that was spread out three years. >> this surge of 400,000 licensees doesn't surprise immigration attorney sara sylvia taylor. >> there are so many people on the road driving who are showing their interest in learning the rules of the road. they want to be a part of a safer society. they want to learn. >> the law increases public

industry is now catering to your four-legged family member. pet owners are claiming a treat made from hemp is curing their animals of a variety of ailments. >> his dog fred suffered from anxiety. he tried these hemp-based biscuits called treatables. >> were you able to calm him down so he wouldn't immediately be so on guard in the presence of other dogs. >> the pet shop says a lot of its customers claim treatables are curing their dogs from arthritis to appepilepsy seizures. >> the store has shelves of calming remedies but these hemp-based treats seem to be more effective because they are infused with cbds. >> humans and animals have a

spewed a large column of ash into the sky early yesterday. look at this video. this is mexico's national disaster prevention center says it vented 36 times and exploded twice. authorities posted a yellow alert and urged people not to get close to the volcano. they are telling people to cover their nose and mouth with a damp cloth in case of an ash fall. active volcano is 43 miles outside mexico city. >> a beach on the central coast damaged in may by an oil pipeline rupture reopened. in santa barbara county, the beach is now safe for swimmers, beach goers and campers. they can't believe how pristine the beach look. >> we come as part of a group for a yearly camp. we got lucky it opened just in time for our trip. >> it looks terrific. we were trying to find any oil at all and we couldn't see any.

central and northern california in the next couple of days. 40 mile-an-hour winds and by sunday, we'll feel it. we'll see the extra cloud cover as well. also into monday. by tuesday, it pushes east and should be out of here. the temperatures will cool by that time. here is a look at our tower camera. all the cloud cover over the city. it is still mild at 61. 64 in mount view. low 60s half moon bay and morgan hill. pretty shot with the sunshine here. it will be partly sunny to partly cloudy in san francisco today. upper 60s for a high. 64 with a pretty good delta breeze in fairfield. just a couple of 90s out by our inland east bay east livermore today and sunny in san jose. not a whole lot of change for you. average highs in the low 80s. you'll hit that again today. warm inland throughout the weekend. but today could be the warmest day simply because of the cloud cover coming back into play tomorrow.

milk, return it to your grocery store for a full refund. new this morning president obama talking about the long-term deal announced earlier that will prevent iran from getting a nuclear weapon. the president said this agreement cuts off every pathway that iran could take to develop a nuclear weapon. he says the deal will make america and the world safer and more secure. >> there is a reason this deal took so long to negotiate. we refused to accept a bad deal. we held out for a deal that met every one of our bottom lines and we got it. >> president obama will continue to press the deal. next week he will address the veterans of foreign wars convention and hopes the deal will keep the united states a beacon of hope and leadership for future generations. >> also happening today. just over a week after the removal of the confederate flag in south carolina, one group plans to rally. the kkk will protest at the south carolina state house today. the group says its message is not about hate but more about

white pride. governor nikki haley hopes the people of south carolina will stay away from the protest. law enforcement is stepping up to ensure the public is safe during the rally. happening today a public hearing for a north bay developmental center being forced to shut down in three years. the sonoma developmental center is holding a hearing for families and friends of residents to discuss the center's transformation. governor jerry brown signed a bill requiring the center to come up with a plan to close by 2018. the state will spend $50 million to transition residents into community-based housing but many people do not want the center to close. >> closing arguments will be held next month for an emotional-charged trial over frozen embryos involving a cancer survivor her ex-husband and ucsf. the woman says the embryos are her last chance to have a child of her own. >> reporter: the trial over embryos frozen at ucsf may be

farmers spotted mildew on its grape crops. this year there is more than normal. scientists say this scene's temperatures in the 90s can stop the growth of grapes. the sonoma coast is at higher risk because of the widespread marine layer. 12 areas in sonoma are under the severe stress category for powdery mildew. the grape crop is worth $600 million. it's certainly something we should be paying attention to. >> temperatures today up in sonoma will be fairly typical, in the lower 80s. we have that marine layer this morning. looking at mild conditions in our east bay. walnut creek, very sunny. numbers in the mid 60s. few more clouds around san ramon and livermore. it will be another warm day here with extra humid to feel stickier after today. we'll talk about that how long that weather lasts and a look at your cooler seven-day outlook. >> looks nice. thank you. also ahead a big blast gets the giants into extra innings

conditions with cloudier skies tomorrow. we've got the aids walk and possible showers into monday. we've been talking about this for days. it's that tropical moisture moving up around a ridge of high pressure. that's steering it into southern california now. they are getting most of the rain. if we see rain at all, maybe a couple of 0.01 tomorrow. things will get quite active in the mountains tomorrow in the northern sierra. 93 in sacramento. those 80s will be in the bay area. here is the way it looks tomorrow. little bit of moisture as we wake up perhaps tomorrow. throughout the coast on the day. isolated shower is possible. higher elevations couldn't rule out a thunderstorm. into monday, look at that. even warm moisture right on through the early afternoon. we'll keep an eye on it for you. as for today, this sunnier day out of the two for the weekend.
