>> british overnight in san francisco, a man is recovering this morning after plumbing nearly -- plunging 300' on end trail. he was recused by boat the he was walking with a friend at 1:00 o'clock a.m. by the cliff when he fell. our reporter will have a report coming up at 5:30. >> an investigation is underway into a fire in san francisco that started on the roof of a house near union and taylor streets. you can see the firefighters battling the lames and crews arrived shortly after 3:00 a.m. with no word on injuries or the cause. >> developing news details of a mass murder in modesto are coming out 24 hours after the suspect was arrested outside a popular san jose mall. abc7 reporter janet o is outside the santa clara county jail with more. >> good morning matt. 30-year-old martin martinez is held at the jail without bail. he was booked and arrested open suspicion of murder early on

sunday morning. he is accused of killing five people two women and three children aims six months to six years. police were called to the home on saturday afternoon for a security check when they discovered the mass murder. they alerted san jose police that he could be in the area. we got exclusive birds of martinez red lincoln navigator parked outside a home. police say martinez went to westfield mall with a friend or relative and three was arrested. we have learned that martinez had a relationship with one of the victims who has been identified as amanda crews, a doctor in modesto. two of her children were kill the, one and said to be the six-month-old baby girl of martinez. all were related and all female. police say the murder has shaken the community. >> it is devastating not only to the families of the victims but to the neighbors here and to our law enforcement community.

corvette slammed into a light poll at the bridge yesterday afternoon. witnesses say the corvette and a motorcycle were speeding when the accident handed. as you can see from the photo very limit of the corvette remains after the fire. >> new details this morning of the deadly midair collision between an f-16 jet and a single engine cessna over south carolina. national transportation safety board is reporting that the jet pilot was warned by air traffic controller of traffic ahead moments before the july 7 crash. both people on poor the cessna, father and son were killed. jet continued flying for three minutes before the pilot parachuted to safety. the investigation is continuing. >> we are learning more of what may have caused a 24-year-old to gun down four marines and a sailor in tennessee. muhammad youssef abdulazeez's deadly shooting rampage took place in chattanooga tennessee and he was shot and killed by police. mental i willness and alcohol

altos and redwood city at 88. you could drop temperatures along with the 80 in san francisco headed to later in the afternoon. upper 80s to low 90 through the north bay and only petaluma and san rafael not making it to 90 and along the east bay shore a lot of low-to-mid 80s from oakland at 80 and fremont at 84 to richmond and ber low-to-mid 90s you will need the air conditioning inland east bay. tonight is warm maybe not so warm but mid-to-upper 60s in many areas. this morning, at 7:00, you can see down to our south and over to the east is our best chance of seeing the thunderstorms. tomorrow, we will start to get sea breeze to kick in and notice the temperatures are falling back into the 80s in our warmest areas and by thursday we are actually cooler-than-average and we will stay pretty close to normal through the weekend. guys? >> thanks, mike, leyla is off.

lights to be able to show it to you and two men decided to hike to the end of it at 1:00 o'clock this morning. one man did fall. he fell off the cliff about 300' into the water and he was very lucky, crews found him and said it was not easy they called his name and got no respond. the swimmers located him and pulled him to safety. >> he is pretty been but he is alive. he has rescue swimmers come out and package him and took him on the rescue boat. >> officials say this is not a good place to hike at that hour at 1:00 o'clock in the morning with no lights the paths are narrow. if you not familiar with the area there is a good chance you will fall. >> they have not released the victims' name or aim or anything else. but he is going to be okay.

>> >> developing news we are learning more of the five people killed this modesto including the suspect's six-month-old daughter and her mother 30-year-old martin martinez is in the santa clara county jail. police arrested him in san jose yesterday morning at the mall and candles have been placed outside the home in modesto where officers found the bodies of three little girls and two female adults. police conducted welfare check. they have not released the names of the victims but the family of c amanda crews said she among the dead. >> there is a past relationship define martin and one of victims inside and one of the children is his. >> an physician and recently moved into the home with martinez much we have more on the story nbc

hour. >> quick work by fire crews prevent add brushfire from spreading and this cell phone video showed flames up the hillside that started at 8:00 people in the molar ranch neighborhood near foothill road and 5 area the crews assisted alameda county fire to hold the flames to two acres. the cause is "under investigation." >> san bernardino county the rain calmed a large grass fire that swept across interstate 15 on friday and firefighters are still on the job and so-called north fire is 75 percent contained burning over 4,200 acres and flames destroyed 20 cars and trucks and the drivers ran for their lives weapon the fire jumped the freeway. seven homes and 44 other vehicles were also burned. investigators are looking into what sparked the fire. >> images from southern california where heavy rain caused a bridge on interstate 10 in riverside county to collapse. a driver was hurt and had to be rescued after the truck fell into the river below and washed
