having killed a 2-year-old christopher riply. >> chief, with all due respect did the police department drop the ball on this one? he was allowed to have continued contact. could these deaths have been prevented? >> absolutely. at that time, there is no indication there would be any violence within that family. there had been no calls for service at that location. >> police say christopher suffered brain injuries. christopher was the son of dr. amanda cruise. police say cruz, one of the five victims was now in a relationship with martinez, suspected of killing amanda cruz, their 6-year-old daughter. the six month old rachel, martinez and cruz's daughter,

martinez's mother, and another 5-year-old relative. five lives in total. six when considering 2-year-old christopher. two days prior to saturday's homicide a specialist determined christopher's death was not an accident. police knew that, but waited two days to look for martinez until after the violence and the chief says martinez hadn't been living in the house two months. in modesto, abc7 news. >> now, the family of martinez is speaking out tonight. police found his car parked in his uncle's house saturday night. an uncle tells us he went to see a movie with his

injuries while mr. martinez was watching him alone. >> by police police decided they wanted more information but hadn't acted until saturday afternoon. that is when police were called here to her home by friends because she missed a lunch date they found her dead inside. candles and flowers are from people who first met cruz because she was their physician but over time she became a friend. a recent move made things difficult. >> i was sad and upset. i went to her. she said jennifer if i can deal with my son's dieing you can deal with depression. >> dr. cruz transferred to modesto. the group issued a statement that reads we've known her since

when an east bay homeowner heard a noise in the ceiling an exterminator told her she had rats. >> then she found out rats were not the problem. >> yes. this year was told rodents were spreading through her property. she agreed to pay thousands to set, bait and trap. only to find out she was in a trap of her own. it began with a scratching sound the critter kept scratching. >> i was concerned it was a rat.
