this is what they are working in. look how scattered the homes are they are trying to protect. it is not like it is a neat row of homes. they are all throughout the canyon very far apart from each other. about 200 are threatened. they have evacuated them. they hope to lift the evacuation soon. they say that they will not make a prediction for today because the fire is unpredictable and kept them busy overnight. look how lively this fire was overnight. this is usually the time when fire takes a break and lies down for a bit but not this year. >> the fires this year are from time to time more active at night not just because the fuels of dryer but last night it stayed fairly warm. >> the strike team from marin county arrived at midnight had to jump into a firefight. >> as we were to deploy it jumped to the other line. they needed engines and we were at the bottom the road and they

redeployed us. >> they found this building onnear with an old car and two other buildings were threatened. they got it knocked down. >> we were active for a few hours. >> the winds fueled the fire and spread the smoke to a nearby town. >> it is scary. there is ash all over the ground and my house. it is surprising to have that much ash fall. >> the red cross set up a shelter at the country have for evacuees but only five people showed up. residents say that is because here everyone takes care of each other. >> not too many are here because most are staying at friend's houses in town which is a community we have here. look at the plumes of smoke that have just kicked up in the last few minutes. it looks like they are dealing with serious fire over the hillside so it looks like they will have a busy day ahead of them. it is not windy.

they hope it will stay that way and they can turn the corner and get ahead of this. i saw them eating the m.r.e.s and they can put water on them and eat on the fire line and they go. they cannot afford to turn their back on this one yet. >> thanks, amy. the fire is not just driving evacuees out of their homes but livestock are moved. horses and cattle are moving across the hillside to escape the flames. a large evacuation center was set up on county road 31 in winters. this video from an abc7 news viewer shows the fire moments after it broke out. a man from citrus heights was scared how quickly they spread. he is thankful to be home safe and away from the fire. >> as amy only one structure has

been lost in the fire. this video into the abc7 news room shows the outbuilding being consumed by flames. every fire season firefighters around the bay area urge people to clear dry brush and plants away from buildings by creating the defensible space. they say you can make it easier for them to protect your home from fire. >> turning to meteorologist mike nicco who has a look at current weather conditions. >> mike? >> good morning, everyone. i have good news. the winds from last night continue to stay in. temperatures are down to 61 percent. humidity is high at 78 percent. winds are from the southwest at six gusting to nine miles per hour. this is what it looked like overnight, the marine layer pushed almost all the way to the fire. it did not quit get there but pushed humidity up and made for the gusty winds. i am not expecting that to happen today or tonight. by 12:00 we are upping to 75 at its warmest we will be 85 with

mission street. the leak is at an at&t substation with utility vehicle on the scene now pumping water. pg&e may have to shut down power in the area. >> a.c. transit bus driver had a medical emergency this morning which forced the c.h.p. to close down a lane of the bay bridge briefly. the driver of the bus was complaining of chest pains while driving westbound on the span and c.h.p. offers briefly closed one lane while the driver was removed and passengers were transferred to another bus. the driver was taken to summit medical center and officials will update his condition later in the day. >> the man accused of shooting scott lunger will be released from the hospital soon and booked into jail. abc7 news reporter janet o joins us in hayward with what we are learning. janet? >> matt, hayward police have confirmed that 21-year-old mark estrada will be released from the hospital where he is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds and will be booked into

custody later today just as short time ago neighbors confirmed this facebook photo of him, he goes by the name marcos and estrada is accused in the shooting death of scott lunger during a traffic stop at myrtle and lion streets. he lived with his parents and police found ammunition and a gun but have yet to link it to the shootout. he was associated with the significant but is not a gang member. hayward police say they are trying to pull together during the difficult time. counselors are on hand to help the entire department. they say lunger's partner and officer of seven years is doing as well as he can. he said the shooting was unprovoked and is a senseless tragedy. >> we as police officers took this job with the intention to do good things and to help people but sergeant lunger wanted to do that.

he was a police officer who worked very hard to keep the neighborhoods safe. >> for the record police say a gofundme account sit up for lunger is not a scam. they say the person behind it has good intentions but failed to inform lunger's family. the site has since been taken down and the money will be given to the hayward police officers association. lunger's family say grateful they are not in need of financial donations. you and see the outpouring of community support as people continue to leave flowers and messages outside here at the police station. funeral arrangements for linger by the way have not yet been set. police say when they have a time date and location they will let us know. for now the police are saying that it will be a public memorial with federal honors. thank you janet. can you offer con dole ensures by sharing this badge on social media on the abc7 facebook

>> an oregon police officer's body camera catching a violent crash between two cars. the officer was talking to a motorist he pulled over and the car collided. no one was seriously hurt. based on the footage police believe one of the cars ran a red light when it was broadsided by the other would had the green. >> a very close call for firefighters in florida who were responding to a traffic accident on a freeway. semi truck narrowly plowed into their fire truck that was in one of the lanes. fire crews ran to safety and no one was hurt. authorities say the firefighters did everything by the book

our coolest day this week. clouds return and drizzle is possible tonight along the coast and over to the east bay hills. it will be seasonal this weekend but ill not stop there we have a heat wave coming next week. in walnut creek inland east bay, that will stop short of the greatest amount from being average at ten degrees cooler than normal and the neighbors to the north concord 77 rather than 87 and eight in napa and the rest us around three to six degrees below average with the clouds huggingand flight arrival delays continue. their average delay is one hour and 13 minutes. can you see the strong winds at sfo and same in san carlos and fairfield at 21 and concord at 18. they will get faster starting at 3:00, north of the bay bridge all the way through the delta through 10:00, it will be a bumpy ride. now a look at our temperatures, you thought it was cool yesterday during lunch? we are up to five degrees cooler today and that puts us mainly in the 60s and 70s but still

holding on to 59 at half moon bay and barely 60 in san francisco. reinforcing push of cooler air is coming and that is where it will kick up the breeze this afternoon but it should be the last push of cool air temperatures are down if the south bay mid-to-upper 70s so you get to los gatos and gilroy low 80s and millbrae is a brick 6 and low-to-mid 70s for the rest of the peninsula and half moon bay is the warm spot along the coast at 63 followed by sunset at 62. daly city and colma at 61. downtown is 65. napa is checking in at 75. along the east bay shore richmond and berkeley and oakland in the upper 60 and low-to-mid 70s elsewhere and outdoor activities custody a great day to go it inhappened, mid-70s to low 80s before the triple digits next week. at the game take the sunglasses you will need the sunscreen and the city council will pop out and in the mid-60s from 12:35 to 3:00, and tomorrow the winds will come out quicker and by sunday
