ue and at one point the suspect asking police to shoot him. >> he had a backpack in his left hand and apparently his other hand was obscured. >> reporter: police chief says the carjacking suspect shot by one of his officers was unarmed but still posed a threat. >> it began when the man crashed this white toyota on south airport boulevard. the car was storage rom at the long--term parking branch and belongs to a woman running the marathon. a witness saw the driver leaving the accident scene carrying a backpack. a police officer tried to stop him. >> when he officer asked the suspect to place the back tach down the suspect ran. >> he ran west on san bruno avenue, where police say he attempted to carjack the driver of a red honda. officers ordered the driver to stop the driver is threatened. he can hear the original suspect telling the driver to drive. the driver refuses. the suspect then bails back out

of the car. >> police say the suspect ran on the 101 exit ramp and tried to carjack other drivers but failed. an officer says he ordered the carjacker to stop, but instead he turned and started moving toward police. >> one shot is fired. it does not strike the suspect. the suspect continues to come at the officer. one of the other officers can hear the suspect saying, shoot me shoot, me, shoot me. a second round is fired and strikes the suspect in what appears to be the abdomen. >> reporter: police say the suspect is in the hospital and expected to survive. >> today loved ones honored hayward police sergeant scott lunger with one of his parks, baseball. he was shot and killed on wednesday morning during a traffic stop. suggest lunger was a baseball fan, coach and player. sergio quintana is live in livermore.

>> reporter: this game had been scheduled long before that shooting that happened earlier in the week, and so it turned into an opportunity for a lot of his teammates to pay a special tribute to the fallen friend. taps taps >> reporter: following the taps his fellow teammates and opponents took the field. sergeant scott lunger was a decorated enemy of the tri-valley a's and some of his teammates were fellow police officers, so the game was difficult for some of them to play but necessary. >> original hill we did have a choice to forfeit the game and reschedule, but scott would want us to play in his honor and anybody else's honor. so he would want us on the field. >> reporter: last wednesday sergeant scott lunger was shot to death after pulling over someone would was drive egg rat include through a neighborhood. 21-year-old mark estrada was

something like this so it paid off. >> the fire is five percent contained. officials say there are not many hydrants in the area so crews have to truck up water from somewhere else to help battle the fire. additional crews will be sent to madera county to fight the willow fir. in napa county there's a wildfire near lake berryessa 60% contained. the fire started last wednesday. all evacuations and road closures were lifted. officials believe a car accident sparked the fire. a wildfire in el dorado county has been downgraded to 98 acres from 200. the fire is now 80% contained no structures burned, no injuries reported. crews expect full contain.
