on the ridge line behind me. i'm along the road and and am joined by cal fire public information officer. give me perspective at this point. >> right. here we are on the north side of the fire. like you said, winds have been changing all day. the south side has been active most of the day. now, here we are on the north side. we're seeing extreme fire activity going on. you're going to see aircraft in, laying retardant down and firefighters can get up close to the fire and put fire out. >> that is probably reassuring for folks that live where there is an advisory at this point. do you think crews are able owe get a handle on the ridge line? >> we hope so. but the weather, low humidity has been a great big challenge for us today. >> reporter: talk to me about

the seriousness of the advisory. >> we say ready set, go. we want you ready and so we want everybody to be clear of the structures in case fire is coming by. we want to make sure everybody is safe then, property. >> folks have been coming out here to watch the fire line. people that live nearby, we've talked to some of the people. they're rather nervous and say conditions have been incredibly warm. here is what they have had to say. >> it's been 1061 day today, winds changed and blew smoke into town. it's getting hard to breathe. a lot harder to see. >> i feel scared because we live on the avenue. if you see heat coming our way in less than 30 minutes. >> reporter: that has been the

unpredicability of the fire. i want to show you our map here if my photographer can zoom in on it. this is the fire map. at this point, this area is outdated. firefighters told me this afternoon that this has filled in. there was one additional structure lost, here. areas south have been on mandatory evacuation. we're on dam road about three miles from the fire line. we haven't seen helicopters come and pick water from behind us. the fire line behind me there is a lake, we're along dam road and there is a body of water. that is where they've been picking up. we've seen the fire retardant flames loop. so it is possible it's going to dump here, certainly. i want to take a look at. that i'm told it will make a couple hoops before dropping that fire retardant and create a better

line here. so throughout the day let's talk about the smokiness and ash falling. we've had a lot less ash falling here within the last 5 to 10 minutes but it is erratic and there is a lot of smoke. folks are taking their masks around with them the air is difficult to breathe and there are ever-changing conditions here in clear lake. >> thank you for that update katie. to give you an idea of how big this fire is you can see it if space. check this out. this is a satellite image from nasa. you can see how much smoke that is producing. >> firefighters live and die by the conditions on the fire lines. spencer christian is here with a look at what they've been facing. spencer? >> we'll take you down to the fire in lake county. firefighters still 90 degrees. it's hot there. relative humidity was in the teens, about 17% now. up to 31%. winds south at nine miles per hour gusting to 13 miles per

hour and winds have been problematic for firefighters. here is a look at the area, there are 18 acres including elections like sky high ridge road rocky creek road. the encouraging news is that winds will be diminishing significantly during evening and overnight hours. notice overnight into single digits wind speeds picking up again tomorrow afternoon, which is not good news. we're hoping that the diminishing winds will be helpful to firefighters. ama? >> thank you, spencer. take a look. there are 18 major wildfires burning across the state now. the majority are in central and northern california. and evacuations have been lifted for residents living near the wragg fire in napa and solano counties. it is now 87% contained. >> you can down load our free

answers now. i just -- don't believe. i'm still in shock. >> reporter: he was arrested on saturday after his family told the chp he was threatening suicide. the chp says petrolino was drunk, and after interviewing him, determined he was not a threat to himself. they took him to jail after discovering he had arrest warrants. the chp says they did share information about the initial suicide call but he was jailed with the general population. three days later on tuesday, the 50-year-old man hanged himself in a jail shower stall. >> we know it's an apparent suicide. the facts of the case are under investigation. >> we're deeply concerned that there was no observation being done. >> reporter: the deputy public defender says this should have been a 72-hour watch on

petrolino. the judge, at her request ordered a psychiatric evaluation. >> every indication was there for the sheriff's department to be keeping a close eye on this guy. and obviously, they didn't. >> reporter: his sister told us she contacted the sheriff's office three times after his arrest. >> i said, well, he's also suicidal. he tried to jump off the bridge. >> petrolino is the third inmate to die in san francisco jails this year. in san francisco, cal train service remains stalled because a train hit and killed someone on the tracks. several trains are affected. there are delays of up to 40 minutes or so. muni set up a bus bridge and bart will assist between san francisco and millbrae. a brief lock down of the white house has been lifted after a woman climbed over a

barricade on pennsylvania avenue. police arrested her. she faces unlawful entry charges. police are investigating what some say is the most-violent crime bodega bay has seen in years. it happened where taylor street meets highway one. abc7 news has more on what happened. >> reporter: the employees at the store were just making breakfast when it happened. >> a lady was frantic saying that a guy had a gun and was after her. >> reporter: moments later a second woman ran in. >> screaming and crying saying there is a man down the street and i think she's dead. >> the third woman was still alive. the press democrat reports she was conscious upon arrival. the s.w.a.t. team surrounded the house where the three had been

sleeping. they knew who he was. >> she filed a restraining order two days ago. >> reporter: neighbors say the house is a vacation rental and the victims were not from here. neighbors believe the suspect parked just up the street. police found the blue rental car but couldn't find the suspect. they told neighbors to shelter in place. >> i'm scared. really scared. i have kids and stuff, you know? i can't believe something like this would happen in our town. >> we have a manhunt here in the neighborhood for a good couple hours. they didn't realize he was in the house. >> reporter: neighbors say police sent a robot into the house. they found the man dead of a self inflicted gunshot wound. it left neighbors relieved. >> if he goes to jail and gets out, he'll do it again to someone else. >> we're just glad it's over. >> reporter: police have not released the names of the

suspect or the victim. jonathan bloom abc7 news. the father of 8-year-old maddy middleton is thanking family friends and the community for their support. the body of the little girl was found in a recycling bin near her family's apartment complex. a 15-year-old neighbor is in custody on murder charges. her father reads my hope is that she is never forgotten and remain in our hearts for eternity. maddy's mother cancelled an event tonight in her community. she wants people to howl at the blue moon from their own homes in honor of maddy, who loved wolves. san francisco police are looking for more possible victims of a man accused assaulting a client while posing as a massage therapist. police say he was operating with out a valid license.

it's likely going to be a rough weekend getting across the bay. bart is shutting down service for track maintenance. laura anthony is live with more on the impact. hi laura. >> reporter: hi dan. bart will have nearly 100 buses serving, and extra tow trucks to help out, but everyone should expect with the transbay tube closed this will be a big traffic mess. christine york her husband and four kids just arrived in oakland international airport with plans to spend a weekend in san francisco. knowing that the trip back on sunday may be tough thanks to bart's planned closure of the transbay tube. >> i got an e mail from ala --

everyone goes to this and think it's just as hard for a father as for a mom. you know? to have this experience of loss. >> reporter: the couple is expecting a baby girl. in the newsroom abc7 news. speaking of bundles of joy, a peninsula woman showed up to give crews a big thank you. abc7 news was at station 61 as she arrived with her baby. she wanted to meet firefighter jesse lang who delivered baby frank in the back of an ambulance. it happened while they were going 50 miles per hour on highway 101. >> either jesse or the driver asked how we're doing. and said we're going to deliver. i thought oh, gosh. i wanted to get to the hospital. they said okay. push. i pushed twice and he came out. >> the baby had the cord wrapped around his neck and had trouble breathing but firefighters were able to free him and look at him. he's doing great.

facing any new shoplifting charges. however, sfpd does say bloomingdale's asked him not to shop here anymore. so when he showed up. what is not clear is, he ended up face down in a pool of blood. the you tube video shows what appears to be security guards surrounding a man on the ground bleeding. this video was taken with a cell phone. >> i thought i was walking towards a gang fight. frankly. i realized these are under cover security, i pulled out my camera. it didn't seem right. >> reporter: according to the police department, the man on the ground was charged twice with shoplifting from bloomingdale's. a loss prevention officer recognized him and asked him to leave. >> they were aggressive.

they were on the tile. >> reporter: the sfpd spokesperson says the man was not armed. >> is this excessive use of force? >> it's hard to determine based on the video. you see what happens after the fact. it doesn't look pretty. looks really bad, to be frank. but you know again with, he -- we do not know. >> reporter: sfpd said the man was taken to sf general with nonlife threatening injuries. he has not filed charges against the officers. bloomingdale's told abc7 news the store is cooperating with sfpd. and they did not respond to a request for in store surveillance video. a different shopper shows officers on top of another man. one spokesperson says sfpd is investigating this matter.
