>> it is saturday, august 1st. good morning, everyone i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a first look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen checking live doppler hd. good morning lisa. >> good morning, chris. we are starting back with plenty of clouds. we will get back to the usual in a short time. low clouds and fog have built up and the marine layer about 20,000 feet deep. a pretty steady on shore push. winds about 20 miles an hour out toward the delta. but 60s to the lower 60s. plan for the rest of the day today will be for the fog and low clouds to slowly clear back to the coast. that will be an element in the cool down with an on-shore flow. temperatures getting back to

normal. we will define that and have a look at the outlook coming up. >> thank you the u.s. forest service is investigate the beth of a firefighter. crews found his body yesterday morning. u.s. forest service tweeted this picture of a purple ribbon in tribute to the fallen firefighters. the service is also lower their flags in his honor. the governor issued a statement saying he will be remembered for his qualifies bravery and we extend our deepest condolences to his fire. that fire is one of 24 major fires burning up and down the state of california. governor bound has declared a state of emergency. he has ordered the national guard to help fight the fires and clears to get california help from other states. one county out of control is one near clear lake. it is just 5% contained.

abc7 news reporter alan wang has the latest. >> erratic winds stirred up flames that threatened to jump morgan valley road. this is where most of the evacuationings took place and this is where the crews from southern california made their stand. >> you see it on my right shoulder. that's always a great danger to everybody on the ground. we are protecting the powerlines by keeping these lines in place >> the last airdrop left these crews defending the road and the powerlines without air support. another 5,000 acres burned. >> it's like being in another world. the smell, i mean, it's still burning here. >> meanwhile a second fire is burning northeast ward the city of lower lake. it prompted more evacuations and the opening of another shelter in a nearby town. >> there have been advisories. a lot of my friends in lower lake and morgan road have got evacuated. we are just on standby.

traffic situation worse. we have the story. >> for the next six months muni metro strain service under the city will not be a travel option past 10:00 p.m.. >> i work in the ferry building and a lot of people get out at 10:00 at night. it will be unfortunate for them. i don't know how they will find a way to get home and navigate the buses. >> the muni trains will resume service for the morning commute. and the rest of the weekend bart trains will not run through the tube. workers have already started setting up signs to direct passengers to the temporary bus bridge. but they recommend people just avoid a weekend trip across the bay if possible. >> don't depend on that for your trip to san francisco. it will delay your trip by an average of 1 to 2 hours extra than what it normally takes from the transbay. >> it may not be an option for some workers and for some visitors the shutdown was surprise. this man is visiting from toronto and staying in san francisco. he wanted to go to a second a's

game this weekend his friend. >> it's under construction for the next two days so we will are to take uber or a cab. that's one headache. >> the transbay tube will be shut down until monday morning so they can replace rail near the bart station. they will do it again labor day weekend to finish the job. abc7 news. bart has a lot of information about how to get around without transbay service. we have that information on our website, abc7news.com. police are making a dent in some of the many concepts in san francisco. during a citywide campaign in may, officers in uniform and undercover recovered 89 vehicles that were reported stolen. police say some of the stolen cars were used in robberies shooting and burglaries. they arrested more than 40%. some of people are serial car burglars. >> the suggestion that silicon valley workers should wear more to work than t-shirt and jeans

the jet crashed while attempting to make a landing and an investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing. the families of two 14-year-old boys who disappeared while boatingoff the central coast of florida vowed to keep searching after the coast guard suspended their trip last night. they set off on a fishing trip from jupiter 89 days ago before a storm hit the atlantic. their capsized boat was found two days later. a woman jumped the white house fence last night. she was immediately arrested. the white house went into a lockdown for a time. they made it more difficult after a man got over it and into the white house last year. a concert in the east bay last night will help hundreds of budding musicians. ♪ ♪ abc7 news was in hayward for the

annual jenne lind concert. 300 day area students performed to honor the 14-year-old and raise money for music education and child safety. cheryl jennings mc'd the event. lynn was studying piano in 1994 when she was stabbed to death. the crime is unsolved. a peninsula woman showed up to a south san francisco firehouse yesterday to give crews a big thank you. abc7 news was at station 61 as alexis arrived. and they were going 50 miles per hour on highway 101. >> i wondered when we were going deliver and i thought, oh, gosh. i wanted to get to the hospital first. and they said okay push and i pushed twice and the baby came out. >> the baby had the umbilical

cord wrapped around its neck and had trouble breathing but firefighters were able to free hem without complications and say he's doing great. the a's seem to be ignoring the desire for them to sell their stake in the oakland coliseum complex. they want to sell it to the city of oakland to retire their debt from the renovations of the coliseum. they say it will make it easier for the a's to get a new stadium with developers having to deal with just one public agencies. some do not support it and do not think it will support easier talks. dewpoints near 60. there's a reason for that. we will explain in a moment. 62 half moon bay, 63 morgan hill. you can see the marine layer, the clouds and 59 in napa and novato. otherwise 62 toward concord. 64 in livermore. a final look at emeryville this morning. so a forecast highlights call for partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies this morning, mild conditions. mild to warm throughout the day today. and the cooler pattern continues to take shape throughout the next several days. but we do have an area of low pressure bringing up the sup tropical moisture from the south. that's allowed for pockets of moisture and the available thunderstorm activity up toward lake county, the northern sacramento valley which, of course, doesn't bode well for fires. but the overall conditions with the on shore flow and slightly cooler temperatures today will allow for perhaps the firefighters to get a hand on this fire here up near clear lake. temperatures right now in the low 70s, relative humidity,

and it's up there for this time of day 63%. you see the winds are not much of a factor right now, but as we go through the next couple of hours out of the west-southwest, they could be gusty in the early afternoon up to 20 miles an hour. cooler weather is on the way day-to-day. but today it should be pretty pleasant from san francisco to oakland. 79 palo alto and the 80s return into our inland east bay. but they are mid-80s for concord. we could touch around 90 but by the delta, it feels better than it's been. 81 santa rosa, 76 in santa cruz. and the accuweather seven-day forecast calls for temperatures on the high end today to be the warmest out of the next seven days. 90s inland. and then we are getting cooler day-to-day with numbers below normal by monday. a good dose of low fog and clouds with 60s, 70s and 80s around the bay. you can see what is showing up live on live doppler hd with the abc7 newsletter app. it's free.

it ended when the suspect crashed into another car where he was captured. tee people were taken into custody with nonlife-threatening injuries and two to the hospital. authorities say the suspect's injuries were not caused by gunfire. 5:31, the time this morning. president obama is talking about an anniversary probably not too many. us were aware of. the 50th anniversary of medicare and medicaid. the programs were created in 1965 by president johnson. medicare provides health insurance to people ages 65 and older, regardless of income or medical history. medicaid helps people of all ages who can't afford coverage. >> before medicare only half had some form of health insurance. before medicaid, parents often had no help covering the cost of care for a child with days

neighbors relieved. >> i'm glad it's over. >> in bodega bay, jonathan bloom, abc7 news. >> happening today about 200 bus drivers who shuttle workers to their silicon valley jobs will vote on their first labor contract. they joined teamsters in february and have been negotiating with their employer. the team center official would not disclose details but said it was similar to what facebook drivers got earlier this year. it included a pay crank of 21 to $28 an hour, depending on how long a worker has been with the company. if the drivers approved, compass will have to get approval from the tech company. huberer is now one of the most valuable companies in the united states. the san francisco based company is now valued at close to $51 billion following a new round of funding. the total equals the record set by facebook for a private venture-backed start-up.
