this is abc7 news. >> a man swiking a -- swinging a hatchell has swarmed into a theater. >> the latest on these attacks at public gatherings. >> today's attack happened at -- in antioch, tennessee just outside of nashville. >> 29-year-old montono stormed into a theater armed with a hatchet, pepper spray and an air soft pistol that looked like a real gun. >> he sprayed several people with pepper spray and one person suffered a hatchet wound. officers are nearby and responded right away. >> the suspect raised his weapon toward the officer and pulled the trigger and the officer fired on the suspect and backed away from the theater jie. we heard screams and then a shot.

then awhile after that metro police came in and they escorted us out. >> police shot and killed montono. he has had a history of arrests and was committed four times for mental health issues over the years. here are pictures of the hatchet and an air soft gun the attacker was carrying. you can see it looks like a real gun and it may have been hit with bullets during a shootout with police. >> today's violence follows a deadly shooting last month at a movie theater in louisiana. is it time for security at movie theaters? katie is live with the story. katie? >> ama, moviegoers say they don't want security like metal detectors. they say it would ruin their movie experience. a security expert i talked with said it is definitely time. >> rich white really likes movies. >> me and my wife are big movie buffs. we took our picture at a movie

controlled. >> added security would come to cost for movie moviegoers. a br -- abc7 news. >> we will move next to the fire burning from clear lake. firefighters are gaining some ground tonight. the rocky fire has burned more than 69,000 acres. that's bigger than sacramento. tonight it is 30% contained. 43 homes and even more out buildings are destroyed and nearly 7,000 structures are threatened. and thousands of people are still being kept from their homes. firefighters on the ground are struggling in the heat and the terrain, but firefighters who attacked the flames from the sky have no easy job either. cornell bernard is live at the small airport in sonoma where the pilots are con constantly in and out of the danger zone. >> dan, these cal fire pilots have been flying seven-hour shifts since the rocky fire

began. many are happy and relieved tay progress is finally being made, but the historic firefight is far from over. cal fire air tankers are returning to base after eight straight days of fighting the rocky fire. >> it is a big tire. >> bob says in his 40 years of doing airdrops the rocky fire has been the worst. an inferno with a mind of its own. >> that fire did basically what it wanted to do. it was really hard to coral. >> these planes could be the unsung heros of the firefight. this aircraft used to chase submarines and now it drops retardant from the doors that swings open like a kitchen cabinet. >> when it is time to drop i put my thumb on the button and i press the button. >> the retardant is red so they can track the drops. but wind and smoke work against the tankers. he flies in this plane

controlling the airborne firefight including these dc10's that can drop 12,000 gallons on the blaze. >> sometimes you have two, three, four airplanes up and multiple helicopters and you are trying to make sure everyone is safe. >> turn the pump on and open the valve. >> it takes about two minutes to refuel the planes before they are back in the air. >> it has cost the taxpayer a lot of money. we lost homes in out buildings. >> the airborne fight to stop the fire begins again at sunrise. in santa rosa, cornell bernard, abc7 news. the lower temperatures and the higher humidity have really helped crews gain ground. sandhya patel is here with the fire conditions right now. sandhya? >> ama, it is looking good. let me show you what it looks like at this hour. we are looking at humidity of 48% and steady coming up. the wind has been dropping off out of the north. gusting to five miles an hour and it is 71 degrees. the fire has burned 109 square

miles of very large fire as you can imagine. and as we take a look at the forecast, the next 24 hours, we are looking at breezy conditions developing around 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. the winds will be lighter tomorrow afternoon, and then they pick up a little bit. not looking terribly windy for the firefighters. hopefully they will continue to make progress. what we will thts is the humidity -- is the humidity will remain high as we watch moisture from tropical storm guillermo. eventually that gets into our area and there is a possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the bay area. from tomorrow evening until friday morning or evening for dry lightning. that's the concern that it may set off more fires. >> thanks very much. two weeks after it started the big fire near lake berryessa is 100% contained you will be

glad to know. the fire scorched 8,000 acres and destroyed two sheds. only one home is damaged. a pittsburgh police officer is recovering after being involved in an ambush and shootout. it happened around 11:00 when officers spotted a man suspected of an attack in concord. alan wang spoke with neighbors. >> if you can respond for a medical east 12th and harbor . >> the pittsburgh police say the officer jumped out of his car and chased the suspect described as a 49-year-old man from bay point. the suspect ran around the blue house and stopped and pulled out the semiautomatic pises stole and shot the officer in the lig as he rounded the corner. the man's bloody clothes cutaway from ems workers. >> the man was left in the street shot, bleeding out of his stomach.

>> yellow evidence markers show a total of 18 shots fired between them when it went down around 11:00 this morning. the pittsburgh police say they received word that an attempted murder suspect was in this neighborhood. he tried to kill his wife in concord last night. the suspect's white honda civic was spotted on the side of the blue home where it is believed the man was visiting someone. >> you don't see lights anytime. >> i don't know what the deal is over there. >> the officer is expected to survive. the suspect's condition hasn't been released. in pittsburgh, alan wang, abc7 news. san francisco police are trying to find nine members of the rainbow crew accused of raiding a beauty store. they took more than $11,000 in merchandise last tuesday, mostly cologne and perfume. police know who three of the suspects are, but they have not located them yet. the group is accused in several similar grab and run

showing you mostly clear conditions across the bay area except for cloud cover in monterey bay and the south bay. temperatures in the 60s and 70s. half moon bay and novato are in the 50s. you are dropping pretty quickly. here is our view from the east bay hills camera. you can see how terrific visibility is right now. that's how it will look tomorrow morning. another warm day tomorrow and a chance of showers in the evening and thunder is possible going into friday morning. here is a look at the water vapor imagery. we have been watching this area of low pressure over the pacific. it is going to be tapping into moisture from guillermo. it has been sending clouds in our direction. here is the tropical storm. that moisture will start to move in our direction. the cloud cover will increase tomorrow as the low-pressure system moves ashore tomorrow night. and that may be the trigger necessary to toolly bring in a few showers -- to bring in a few showers and thunder. 7:00 p.m. tomorrow night we are looking at the potential

for scattered showers and maybe isolated thunderstorms going into 10:00 p.m. and then as we head toward the wee hours of the morning a few lingering showers are expected on friday. don't be surprised if you do see some showers. although initially those thunderstorms could include the potential for high fire risk as dry lightning is expected. and then eventually we will see the rain. when the rain does get here, some areas could pick up as much as .20 of an inch in livermore. keep that in mind. now we will take a closer look at guillermo. it is really falling apart. packing winds of 50 miles an hour. the highways tour will beheading in our direction. -- the moisture will beheading in our direction. it is passing well to the north and it will continue to weaken. showers are the main concern if you are heading to the hawaiian islands. and then it weakens to a depression. tomorrow morning starting out in the mid50s to the low 60s. clear to the north and a few clouds to the south, and then

as you look at the high temperatures for tomorrow, it is going to be another warm one. 90 in gilroy and 89 morgan hill and mid80s san jose and santa clara. 85 in cupertino and 84 for palo alto. clouds are on the increase. 71 in half moon bay. downtown san francisco, 73. 67 in daly city. a mixture of sun and clouds and in the north bay clouds will be filtering the sunshine. 85 in santa rosa. 80 tiff in napa and -- 89 in santa rosa. east bay upper 70s berkeley, oakland, 83 in fremont. inland will be warm. 94 in fairfield and antioch. 93 livermore. in case you are going to the a's game against the astros, it will be clouding up when the sun goes down. the temperatures will be mild, midto upper 60s. be aware of the fact you may see some drops toward the end of the game. accu-weather seven-day forecast thunderstorms are possible between thursday night and friday morning with the showers. cooler on friday. the weekend looks nice.
