look at the next several hour, we'll be watching for that moisture to move in from the southwest so the south bay has a third possibility of seeing some of those thunderstorms. i'll be back with a closer lk plus look and plus a check on your weekend coming right up. the red flag warning has cal fire anticipating what could be another very busy firefighting stretch ahead. chris winn is live with more. >> reporter: and the dry lightning is a huge concern. you combine that with wind and dry brush and it could make for a very difficult scenario for firefighters. everywhere we look outside, it seems seems as though there is a whole lot of ground but tonight a new concern, a red flag warning in effect p. >> as we look at the amount of fire activity we've already had and the current number of fires that have started over the last several days we have a long road ahead of us. >> reporter: with lightning in

the forecast cal fire crews are bracing for a challenge. this wildfire in the sequoia national forest was caused by lightning, a prime example of how quickly flames can spread especially in a remote area. >> there aren't a lot of people around to report things to 911. so seeing the fire in a remote area, if we get that report, we can get resources out there quicker. >> reporter: jim crawford says they have also brought in additional equipment. cal fire has already called all of its available firefighters back to work meaning if they're not on vacation, they're on the schedule ready to be deployed at a moment's notice. >> we're looking at basically any kind of fire that is out there, we stand the potential of having a large damaging fire occur within the bay area as well as other places in california. so that's really our concern right now. >> reporter: and with the dry conditions we're seeing with drought, fire officials say the season is still very young p in the south bay chris winn, abc 7 news. we have some encouraging

news. fire danger is decreasing further north. some residents are being allowed to go back to their hopes now that crews are getting a better handle in lake county. the governor paid a visit today. >> reporter: yes, he did. he did down the road. in the meantime as you said, some of the residents allowed back into these neighborhoods this afternoon. although at some point folks who are finding -- for instance the owner of this rotproperty finding they really have nothing to come home to. >> you can see the beams how they're all twisted up. >> reporter: all wayne fisher can do is look at what is left of his sprawling home one that burned in a matter of minutes. >> we can't havedidn't have anytime at all. if we had stayed, we wouldn't be here right now. so i'm glad we had enough sense to jump in the car and get on you of here.

bull charged at an officer. >> it was growling and it had like a snarl and his teeth were out. >> reporter: the officer says it happened when he wanted to talk with the dog's owner whom he says had drug paraphernalia. check the security video. it happens quickly just behind the white bus. felony jack charges at the cop. he fires three shots and the dog turns and dashes off towards his owner. now you see him grabbing felony jack's leash trying to control him. he was treated and taken to animal control. today here at this vicious dog hearing, his owner was here, john jonathan reed pleaded for his dog's life. >> if i did snarl and show his teeth, it's the first time he's ever done that in any situation. >> reporter: reed told the

hearing officer he should they ever have let felony jack run wild even though he did have a leash around his neck. >> i didn't is a hold of it and i should have. >> reporter: he promised from now on to control his dog in public if he could havely his dog back. the hearing officered accepted his word and decided to let felony jack go home warning he now has a real felony on his rap sheet. nearly 2 plld$2 million worth of illegal marijuana was found today on a massive pot farm in the hilhills. neighbors tipped off the deputies. it was valued to $1.7 million and they took five people into custody. suspects claimed they were growing it for medicinal purposes. major crimes task force found $90,000 worth of met amphetamine and firearms in a known gang member's oakland home.

officers arrested jeremy thompson so a probation violation last month that led to a search of his home. a san francisco developer is in hot water with the city for supposedly offering rent controlled apartments as short term rentals. city attorney's office is investigating the developers of trinity place, the twin towers on mission street have 1900 apartments. city attorney says he leased 16 rent controlled apartments to a person who then marketed them to tourists. that violates the city agreement that green lighted construction of those towers. meantime rent control is coming to richmond. the city council approved an ordinance making richmond the first california city in more than 30 years to pass such a measure. the ordinance stabilizes rents for about 10,000 households limiting am rent hikes to roughly 2%. it excludes single family homes an all housing built of a of itafter

except near the coast. behind me i'm watching the clouds increasing here as we take a look at live doppler 7 hd p we may be tracking some thunderstorms in the not too distant future. right now you will notice there is moisture up in the clouds, some southwest of san francisco. and if you look to the northeast around nevada, we are seeing some lightning strikes. so that is what we will be possibly tracking later on tonight. now, dew points are starting to creep up a little bit in places like mountain view where it's starting to feel humid. 61 degree dew point right now and that's because of the subtropical clouds that you're seeing here. do expect to feel sticky later on tonight. temperatures 67 in san francisco, oakland mountain view low 70s, san jose 76. currently 66 in half moon bay. here is where the cloud cover is the heaviest because that's where the moisture is going to come this first. temperatures right now 80 in

santa rosa 86 in fairfield, 7 2 napa. a beautiful view as we take a look at what is ahead. red flag warning through the overnight hours. scattered storms certainly a possibility with dry lightning and it will be back to normal tomorrow afternoon. water vapor imagery showed you why we may be tracking some thunderstorms. area of low pressure will provide the lift necessary. we've already gotten the heating from the sun in and you have that sun ropbtropical moisture. if it materializes, we could see a pop-up shower or thunderstorm just about anywhere in the we chlt e hours of the morning. 5:00 a.m., we'll keep the possibility in the forecast to your morning commute. and then the low moves out and it's back to our trip cal pattern for the rest of your friday. rainfall if we do get any it will be very light and spotty in nature. only a couple hundred deathsths of

we're getting a better look at a rapidly intensifying typhoon headed toward taiwan and china. scott kelly tweeted this picture from the international space station. heavy winds and rain already damaging homes knocking down trees and leaving thousands without power. it's expected to hit taiwan on friday and china over the weekend. winds have been clocked at 180 miles per hour. a rare violin has been returned to its owner's family 35 years after it was stolen.

this stradivarius belonged to a musician who died in 2012. last month a woman brought to an appraiser and saw it was stolen. the woman says her late ex-husband gave it to her years ago. >> never really contemplated getting the instrument back. there was some thought that maybe when my father died the thief would try to sell it. it turned out my father who died at the age of 101 and outlived phillip johnson the man who he'd always suspected had taken the violin. >> what a story right? johnson was an aspiring violinist seen near the instrument before it went missing. his ex-wife gave it back to the family and says he purchased it for $15,000. it is now worth literally millions. >> that is an incredible story. some bay area shelter animals are gearing up for the big gop showdown. >> trumping takes on a
