chance to get ahead. >> clinton is on a two day campaign swing to new hampshire. two years ago, a car full of teenagers pulled up alongside him. >> reporter: a lot of surprises today, and a lot of emotions inside that courtroom. now, at the time, the alleged shooter was only 16 years old sh but keep in mind, wasn't the only one at the scene. the teens were between ages of 13 and 13 years old, family and friends of quinn boyar showed support. two of six teenagers are being tried for the murder of the former paramedic.

>> he didn't have a chance at a happy healthy life experience. >> reporter: boyar just dropped off his father to his home, when he came to a stop sign, he was approached by a car full of teens. prosecutors say one of them, christian burton got out of the car and shot boyar in the head. the alleged shooter is being tried as an adult. his attorney maintains did not kill boyar. >> we do believe someone else was the shooter. >> the second teen being tried is david mcneil. >> mr. mcneil, my client there is no evidence he participated. >> another victim is expected to testify in this case. he was shot the following day by

one of the suspects. he didn't have anything valuable to this. saying well, he doesn't have anything for him to shoot him. they did a countdown, and they shot my son. >> three others pled guilty and are serving time. the fourth is doing 15 years in prison. >> i lost my job when i lost him. >> reporter: boyar's father held back tears today when he testified. san jose police use deadly force twice in a six-hour time span overnight, bringing the number of officer involved shootings this year to six. in one case, police say a man threatened him with a knife and a shotgun was involved on san marcos way. that is where we find david louie with more. >> reporter: a man was standing in president front yard with a shotgun, and preparing to shoot.

and police brass say they wrote everything by the book. >> reporter: neighbors say they heard an argument. officers responded and found a man holding a shotgun. >> the suspect was outside with a shot gun. once he racked the shotgun, officers shot at the suspect. he dropped the shotgun, retreated back into his house, and after a few hours, our unit discovered the suspect, dead. >> reporter: police say the man died from a self inflicked wound. his name is the being released, however, relatives and friends who gathered nearby described the man and family as kind hearted and loving. >> he cared for his whole family. we loved him. and like i said, there is going to be hundreds of thousands of

people on this street, sooner or later. because he was very well loved. >> reporter: six hours before this incident, two other san jose officers were involved in another shooting. a suspect wanted in a stabbing incident pulled out a knife and threatened the officers. they shot and killed the man. the assistant says officers did what they're trained to do. there have now been six officer-involved shootings in san jose this year, up from five last year. of this year's six cases three were nonfatal, three were fatal. all four officers have been put on administrative leave. their actions are reviewed. sky 7 hd flew over east san jose. police arrested a suspect in a car jacking. the accident happened on quimby road not far from east ridge mall. there were reports of shots fired but no one was hit. alameda police are on the

lookout for this man, suspected breaking into six homes and sexual assault. police say he cut a hole in a window screen and sexual assaulted a girl who was sleeping. police want residents to be vigilant and lock doors and windows. 19 kedz were injured in a school bus this morning. the chp says the bus slammed into a van, causing a chain reaction with other vehicles. the kids suffered mostly bloody noses and bruises. nothing too serious, thankfully. >> they had multiple drivers that sustained injuries. most of them being minor injuries. >> none of the kids were wearing seat belts because it is not

required to be wearing seat belts since it is more than ten years old. the jerusalem fire burned 5,000 acres since breaking out yesterday afternoon. evacuations have been ordered and there is no containment. meanwhile, this man is accused of setting a backfire to burn off dry brush. deputies believe he set it to protect marijuana plants. reporter george warren talked to silva and his wife today. >> reporter: juan ramos silva showed us where he created a fire break. the house he brought just a month ago, that doesn't have insurance. >> he was trying to protect his home. >> reporter: he explained how he set a file fire himself to remove the dry grass in case the big fire got this far. >> all he wanted to do was fight

the crowds are gone but not the mess. abc7 news was at san francisco's golden gate park after this weekend's outside lands festival. more than 200,000 people attended the event. don't expect the park to return to normal quickly. it will take several days to pull out miles of fencing. police only handed out police citations for alcohol. well, east bay residents say they smell a rat, talking about the real kind, too. residents in this pleasantville neighborhood say rats have been eating their gardens. vector control provides free inspections to keep rats out of houses. >> we can tell just from the droppings whether it's a roof rat or norway rat. what kind of rat it is and what you need to do to make sure that

internet character. the victim survived. colorado's governor declared a state of emergency after a toxic spill from a gold mine. thousands of gallons of waste water spilled into the colorado river this morning. the water contains lead, arsenic and other heavy metals. it happened when the epa began pumping waste water out of the mine because it was leaking. the agency has been criticized for alleged hi down playing the extent of the spill. 12 people died are from legionnaire's disease outbreak in new york. there have been 113 reported casing in the bronx. the disease is a form of pneumonia, especially dangerous for the elderly and people with under lying health issues. zimbabwe lifted it's trophy

hunting ban just ten days of the killing of cecil the lion. a minnesota dentist killed the well known lion in what officials say was an illegal hunt. the nationwide ban remains in place on the farm where cecil was killed. tenants who live on yerba buena island are fighting their landlord, who happens to be the city of san francisco. residents have been told to leave by next month. the views and rents are hard to match. this family pays about $2200 a month for a three bedroom, two bath home. but now, they and the 100 other residents on he yerba buena island are being forced out. the city has plans to build market rate condos, a hotel and ferry terminal. >> there is always an understanding this was temporary and we're offering replacement housing on treasure island.
