i can't quit. failure is not an option. >> reporter: but as riot police are standing by, it looks like the unrest may continue with another long night ahead. jim ryan, abc news, ferguson, missouri. well, turning now to the fatal police shooting of an unarmed teen in texas. 19-year-old college football player christian taylor seen here breaking a car windshield at a dealership in arlington. taylor's brother said he is not angry with police but he questioned the use of deadly force. there were no cameras in the show room where taylor was shot and officers in arlington don't have body cameras. police are promising a thorough investigation. and in wisconsin the 2-year-old -- excuse me, the two 13-year-old girls in the slender man case will be tried as adults. the girls were just 12 when they were accused of stabbing a classmate 19 times in an effort to please a fictional online character. the judge says he worried the girls would stop receiving mental health treatment and be released in five years with no supervision. if convicted in adult court, they could face up to 65 years in prison.

the ntsb meets today to investigate the cause of the accident that injured tracy morgan and killed his friend. preliminary reports found that the walmart driver who hit morgan's limo was speeding at the time. he also hadn't slept in more than 24 hours. morgan and two others who survived settled with walmart for undisclosed amounts. this story is something many of us can relate to at this hour. air traffic controllers admitting they are making mistakes because they're tired. they average just over 5 1/2 hours of sleep a day and more than six in ten admitted to losing focus or falling asleep while commuting to the midnight shift. an airliner packed with passengers struck by a heavy hailstorm. abc's david kerley has the pictures. >> reporter: all this damage, remarkable evidence of the wild ride for this delta a-320. >> we are having a hard time here.

mandatory evacuations have been ordered. five air tankers and three helicopters are being used to battle the blaze. tinder dry brush caused by the california drought is giving the flames added fuel. a man trying to protect his home near the jerusalem fire was arrested. he set an inlegal backfire to burn brush near his home as the larger wildfire began to rage. he was jailed and posted bail. he now knows that setting the backfire was a mistake. the denver area could get more drenching rain today after getting pummeled by another powerful line of thunderstorms. streets were quickly inundated by floodwaters as heavy rain and hail came down. many cars had a tough time getting around the waterlogged roads. heavy downpours also swamped parts of michigan. flash flooding surrounded cars and left drivers stranded. people had to wade through knee high water and even tractor-trailers had to proceed with extreme caution.

and someone threw what the police say were frozen water bottles and rocks. the riot squad searched and about a dozen people were taken into custody. things have quieted down again. occasionally you see it start to pick back up. the atmosphere calms and this ebb and flow is lasting throughout the evening hours now into the early morning. >> jim, who's out there hanging out right now? >> reporter: well, mainly young people out here at this point, pry mowerly teens, primarily, maybe teens or 20-year-olds out here on this side of west florissant. the police officers on the opposite side of the street. >> on sunday before the violence broke out, there were calls for a day of civil disobedience. did you see anything in that regards today throughout the day? >> reporter: yes, there were more than 50 people taken into custody. they had themselves arrested standing outside the courthouse in st. louis. they refused to move. some of them were religious leaders who spilled oil onto the sidewalk. they said they were anointing that building. so they were taken into custody. but that remained a peaceful

about a dozen rowers got sick during a trial run for next summer's olympic games. the team doctors say the dirty water near the competition area in rio de janiero may have caused the illnesses. but u.s. and international sailing officials say there's no evidence to support that. some have raised concerns about the water quality at the olympic venues. several new developments this morning in that deadly bear attack in yellowstone national park. authorities may have captured that bear that killed the 63-year-old experienced hiker. kayna whitworth has the latest. >> reporter: park rangers at the yellowstone national park have just caught a bear cub they believe was also involved in the athat can that killed 63-year-old lance crosby. biologists are also confident they have the female grizzly involved, but the testing continues, and if these are the bears, they will be put down. officials say once a bear attacks a human, it's lost all fear and poses grave danger. park officials are concerned about human interaction with all

wildlife but for bears in particular, they say you should move slowly, talk loudly, make sure you carry bear spray and leave your pack on. that can protect you if the bear gets aggressive. attacks are relatively rare. despite the fact that about 800 grizzlies are thought to inhabit the park that 3 million visitors come to each year. yet yellowstone has only seen eight deadly encounters in nearly 100 years. we're more likely to run into a bear on the side of the road than in the back country and they're urging motorists not to get within 100 yards of wildlife and be extra cautious if you see a female bear and her cubs. a female and her cubs. kayna whitworth, yellowstone national park. now to northern california where firefighters are battling another major wildfire. it's called the jerusalem fire. it started on sunday afternoon and has burned more than 6,000 acres. evacuations are now mandatory. five air tankers and three helicopters are being used to battle the rapidly spreading

flames. the brush is dry and today the winds will be gusty. a man trying to protect his home near the jerusalem fire was arrested. he set an illegal backfire to burn brush near his home as the larger wildfire began to rage. he was jailed and posted bail. he now says that setting that fire was a mistake. in today's forecast, red flag warnings posted for the pacific northwest. firefighters face gusty winds oppressive heat and the chance of lightning storms. flood watches and warnings in the northeast with up to three inches of rain expected. heat advisories in the south. mild and september-like in the midwest. >> triple digits in phoenix and in dallas. 90s in portland, new orleans and in memphis. 80s in washington, d.c., atlanta and kansas city. 70s in los angeles, chicago and new york. there's new hope for farmers devastated by the avian flu. the first farm in iowa has reopened after being restocked with thousands of baby turkeys. the owner acknowledged there could be another breakout but he said they're better off prepared

the plume of heavy metals and chemicals released last week into a colorado river have now reached utah. >> the toxic sludge has left businesses and residents stranded with no water. clayton sandell has the latest. >> reporter: from the air the toxic flume released on the environment by the federal agency supposed to be protecting it. epa workers inspecting an abandoned colorado mine last week accidentally released contaminated water built up inside more than 3 million gallons. water tests show the orange sludge is a mix of heavy metals and chemicals, 3500 times the normal levels of lead, 300 times the normal amounts of arsenic, threatening countless drinking water wells and wildlife. >> we're putting out what are called sentinel cages with small young rainbow trout. >> reporter: the flow traveled down the animas river now heading west toward lake powell and the grand canyon. hundreds of businesses that rely on the river during summer tourist season are now in survival mode. >> over 95% of my business has

failure is not an option. >> reporter: but as riot police are standing by, it looks like the unrest may continue with another long night ahead. jim ryan, abc news, ferguson, missouri. well, turning now to the fatal police shooting of an unarmed teen in texas. 19-year-old college football player christian taylor seen here breaking a car windshield at a dealership in arlington. taylor's brother said he is not angry with police but he questioned the use of deadly force. there were no cameras in the showroom where taylor was shot and officers in arlington don't have body cameras. police are promising a thorough investigation. and in wisconsin the 2-year-old -- excuse me, the two 13-year-old girls in the slender man case will be tried as adults. the girls were just 12 when they were accused of stabbing a classmate 19 times in an effort to please a fictional online character. the judge says he worried the girls would stop receiving mental health treatment and be released in five years with no supervision. if convicted in adult court, they could face up to 65 years

in prison. the ntsb meets today to investigate the cause of the accident that injured tracy morgan and killed his friend. preliminary reports found that the walmart driver who hit morgan's limo was speeding at the time. he also hadn't slept in more than 24 hours. morgan and two others who survived settled with walmart for undisclosed amounts. this story is something many of us can relate to at this hour. air traffic controllers admitting they are making mistakes because they're tired. the government study found controllers averaged just over 5 1/2 hours of sleep a day and more than six in ten admitted to losing focus or falling asleep while commuting to the midnight shift. all this while an airliner packed with passengers struck by a heavy hailstorm.
