live from the property cast center, this is abc7 news. tragedy at lake tahoe. deputy carlos gave his life trying to save the life of another. good morning and thanks for joining us. nbc matt keller is live where they just wrapped up a news conference on this. >> reporter: kristin, this is a sad day at the sheriff office. the sheriff asked that the flags be flown at half staff here in honor of deputy carlos francis

that drawned with family and friends. they say that it happened after the beach near highway 50 intersection and he was paddle boarding in some windy conditions. she went into the water. the friend went into the help and the friend was struggling and jumped in and went under water himself. the girlfriend performed cpr, but was unable to save him. everybody else made it to shore safely. the colleagues at the sheriff's office are in shock. >> deputy sacrificed his life and the pursuit of trying to save the life of another while on lake tahoe deputy francis was our colleague and friend. he was an outstanding person and professional, and we're proud to say that he was a county deputy sheriff.

>> deputy was working and he has been with the sheriff office since 2011. his friend and family new him as diamond and the 30-year-old was a talented athlete and the stock ton football team before joining the police department. he is joined by two sisters and brother that played in the nfl. deputy co deadly weapon y funeral arrangements are being planned. the details will be released at a later date. reporting live with abc7 news. >> thank you matt. a car factor remains closed after a crane brought down a power line this morning. eric thomas is live and eric no one was hurt, right? >> well it is an unexpected day off for thousands of employees

here at the fremont plant and the people doing most of the work right now are probably pg&e trying to restore the power and the car maker can resume work. now, this all started at 6:30 this morning when a crane truck out said of the buildings came in contact with an electric line and brought it down and then knocked out to you pow approximate er to the plant. since cannot make the cars without e lelectricity, it was shut down for the rest of the day and pg&e are hopeful that they can get the power restored this afternoon. what about the employees? well, factory workers were sent home at 6:30, and in a statement they say that nonfactory employees are working from the the office or other offices or from home today. now once gain pg&e estimate is that it can get the power back on by this afternoon although that we have heard some reports that they may not get it back on

until tomorrow. fortunately no one you was hurt in this whole thing. they say that they're confident to catch up when the power is restored. live in fremont with abc7 news. >> thank you. 15 or 20 people are looking fair place to stay after an early morning fire. it happened on international boulevard. it burned a business and spread to a nearby duplex. several apartments and businesses were destroyed. the red cross is helping the victims. a new update shows that the fire has grown to over 24,000 aches in jerusalem. it's also 52 percent contained. the fire started on august 9th, and crews help to have it fully contained by next week. they also made process on the older rocky fire. that's burned more than 69,000 acres and 95 percent con tand.

bridge when the officers approached. a truck driver said that he picked up a soaking wet woman and dropping her off in the east bay. happening today the san jose police department will graduate the 23rd class. 19 recruits become officers that graduated in april. they posted on youtube by the san jose police. the mayor will attend and speak to the zbrgraduates. also the san francisco police department will congratulate it's 244 class. 32 men and woman will be sworn in at full time officers at the scottish right to the auditorium. they will begin the field training tomorrow. former san francisco mayor willy brown is going help celebrate a school opening up after him. it will be state of the art and brown took a tour when it was under construction back in

fshlgs happening today a san francisco judge is expected to hear one of the legal leading challenges that the california law preventing doctor suicide. the lawsuit has been brought by several terminally ill patients including christy white. a 53-year-old san francisco woman to end the life treatment if she loses her battle with leukemia. a woman that advocated and the right to die law has passed away. jennifer were glass posted a video of the body transformation and they posted that she died peacefully in her home on tuesday and holding her hand with the beloved catch at her feet. she was 52 years old. a historic day and this morning a historic flag was raised for the first time in over 50 years. they were on hand for the flag

back to average today. the good news even when it's hot, it's going to be co comfortable and the heat will back back down. if you're on the barks you can see up to the north and the west delta from 3:00 to k9:00 from te bay bridge. take a look at this. look at the offshore flow developing and the clouds being chased away. we're going to have total sunshine today and tomorrow and the water temperatures still above average. ten degrees above and low to mid-60s. now as far as the land temperatures it's pretty dool and look at that 90s starting to show up. on the peninsula we have it on the south ward and 70 in the bay and close to that is the sun set and mid-70s for the downtown san francisco and possibly a 72 and mid-to upper 80s for most of the north bay some low 80s and a

little uncomfortable there. in land is 84 and that's the cool spots. brentwood 90 and everybody is going to be in the 100's tomorrow. that's quit a jump. here is the taylor swift forecast for tonight. dropping down to 68 by 11:00. we will start with football because it starts with 7:00. 71 dropping down to 65. pretty comfortable and 15 minutes later we're going to play a little bit of baseball. nationals and giants and 68 drops down to 65. here is a look at my accuweather and seven day forecast. you will feel a little bit of cooling as you go to sunday afternoon. we will be hanging around the 90s and then the cooling will hit the bay on monday and then by tuesday all of us are back to where we should be. just be careful for the next 20 to 48 hours. it's going to be a tough go. >> yeah, we have not seen the triple digit in a while. >> yeah, you bet.
