live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is "abc 7 news." >> good afternoon, everybody. i'm larry beil. >> i'm ama daetz. we start with new surveillance images from the incident in san jose that's sparked a violent chain of events. >> these pictures from the mercury news show two of the three gunmen tortured a man before killing him. two of the presumed gunmen have been killed. >> the search for the third is still under way. david louie is live in san jose where police shot the second suspect last night. david? >> reporter: ama and larry, that's exactly correct. two of the three suspects wanted in connection with the homicide

last week on lundy avenue have been shot and killed by police. the third person still at large. police are asking for him to surrender. relatives of the second suspect shot here last night are very angry. they are cooperating with a community group that's going to hold a vigil here seeking justice. undercover officers caught up with him on this normally quiet cul-de-sac. it was quiet by the time an officer explained why an officer shot the suspect. >> the officer was chasing the suspect and the suspect reaches for the waistband area. the officer fires his weapon, shoots the suspect and he was pronounced dead at the scene. >> reporter: a video still shows the suspect still alive with a wound to the right shoulder and an officer standing over him with his gun deployed on the steps of a relative's home. a cousin told me off camera the

police targeted the wrong person. a witness says this woman was in the car with the suspect. they believed she was going to be killed because she had information about a homicide in which the suspect may have been involved. new still fotos surfaced showing three men with a gun and assault rifle at an office building last week. two of the suspects are dead. one killed by police sunday night and the second last night. a third is still at large. the three suspects terror used their victim, 38-year-old christopher. >> i watched part of a video that shows a horrific encounter where three suspects are terrorizing the victim they eventually killed. >> reporter: police are withholding details of that homicide as they search for the third suspect. david louie, abc 7 news. a fire in the outer sunset

district destroyed a bar listed as the most romantic among san francisco. >> today's incident caused by a gas line. they evacuated an entire block. yesterday a gas leak caused by another construction accident forced residents on tenth avenue from their homes. now to the fire in the sunset district which destroyed a bar which is considered one of the most romantic. they are investigating that caused the fire around 10:00 this morning. neighbors are devastated. >> these are a lot of native people that live around here. i've been going to that liquor store for like 19 years. >> the bar was built in 1941. the flames destroyed part of a small market next to the

riptide. the damage is estimated at more than $1 million. a rescue team rescued a sea lion in trouble on crown beach. vets are monitoring his condition and will perform an exam. >> he's sick. he's nonresponsive. he was barely moving. he has been eating fish because he's hydrated. his body weight is good. something caused him to leave the ocean and stay out even when we came near him. >> the animal weighs an estimated 300 pounds. park rangers and the alameda department helped in this rescue. the drought is to blame for a tree falling. several vehicles hit the tree. the tree was very, very dry, but this drought diagnosis isn't official saying, quote, i'm not an arborist. >> we have a weatherman that

attention. >> no group has claimed responsibility. police say with confidence they will catch the bomber. marci gonzalez, abc news, new york. the family of a woman killed by police while being held hostage by an accused bank robber is suing police. it accuses the officers of using unreasonable force. a report released yesterday by the non-profit police foundation determined officers used excessive force firing more than 600 times during the july 2014 incident. holtsing was hit by ten rounds while being used as a human shield. this missing man has been found safe in missouri. a long way from lake tahoe. he vanished after renting a paddleboard last wednesday. the sacramento bee reports the native of poland told police the

breach in 2013. they've agreed to reimburse thousands of financial institutions as much as $67 million for cost incurred by the breach. it comes two months after card issuers unexpectedly rejected a $19 million pact that they proposed with mastercard. walmart is reporting lower than expected earnings and citing higher costs from a boost in worker pay an hour. walmart decided to invest $1 billion to lift worker pay and hours. walmart is spending money to compete with amazon. two women are said to become the first female army ranger after conquering one of the physically and mental lly challenging courses on earth. this is the first time a woman has completed the swamp phase. ranger school teaches students how to overcome fatigue, hunger and stress in small unit combat operations.

today b.a.r.t. unveiled 90 secure parking spots. they are only accessible to bike linked card holders. it costs $5. it ten costs 3 cents an hour to park. b.a.r.t. also installed new spaces for bikers to park for free. it has nearly 250 spots for riders to leave their bicycles. you certainly don't need to look hard to find a great restaurant in san francisco. soon there will be even more foodies in the area.

at police headquarters today where they asked the public to help them find some justice. [ gunshots ] barrage of gunshots that seemed to last forever. when it ended, 14-year-old brianna sosa's mother lay dying. >> i really loved her as a mother. she loved everyone. >> reporter: the afternoon of january 27th, near engal street and rivera avenue, maria sosa, a 36-year-old mother, a bystander killed in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting,ed as her children played. they are asking for anyone to help come forward and help police find her killer. >> translator: she was running to her children to protect her

tip line. you don't have to give your name. just the information to help this family find some closure. vic lee, abc 7 news. in las vegas, an investigation under way after this fire and explosion at a hot air balloon business near the strip. two propane tanks exploded sending one man to the hospital. two trailers were engulfed in flames. when firefighters arrived. no customers or passengers at the balloon business were affected. to the wildfires burning in california and the rest of the west. they are calling for reinforcements and the army is answering that call. conditions are so bad. american soilldiers are gearingp to battle wildfires for the first time in nearly ten years. brandi hitt with the latest. >> reporter: with at least 90 large wildfires burning in the west, the 30,000 firefighters on the ground are stretched so thin, the army is now being call

troops have already been called in to help fight these fires and also talk to ask for assistance from australia and new zealand. brandi hitt, abc news, los angeles. in san jose, police are updating the investigation into the fatal shooting of a murder suspect by police. let's listen in. >> the suspects were running after and intimidating and terrorizing the victim. >> can you just go over the connections between the monday incident and subsequent officer-involved shooting and how that led to last night's events? paint a picture for us. >> the homicide that occurred on -- the homicide occurred on the 13th. i believe that was friday, right? thursday. thursday the 13th, a homicide on lundy avenue. at first we had nothing. a big mystery. through diligent work and follow-up investigation, they

were able to obtain information on potential suspects. they've been following up on those leads and obtained arrest warrants for murders on two suspects. the first suspect that was identified was involved in our first shooting. and that suspect was one of the individuals, that we're going to release later on today, a photo of the suspect and a video that will show that suspect inside the business with a handgun. the suspect in last night's officer-involved shooting was armed with a tech 9 assault rifle. it's a tech 9 assault weapon. we have since recovered that weapon through a search warrant. the third suspect, and you will see an image, we have not as of right now identified him.

he is wearing a mask and dark clothing. so we need additional information. our investigators are still doing follow-up. we could use some leads from the public regarding identifying that third individual, which is considered armed and dangerous. that person also had a weapon and again you'll be able to see certain things in the video. i don't want to talk too much about that outstanding suspect because i don't want to jeopardize the integrity of the criminal invest gags. we hope this person realize it's in his best interest to surrender and through family members or friends contact the police department and come in and talk to us. and let's just try to resolve this peacefully. and also we're trying to look for answers to a lot of questions we have regarding the incident. the motives and so forth. >> so the person in the image

that has glasses was the suspect in the officer-involved shooting on sunday night? >> okay. so i have to look at -- the thing is, i will clarify that. i don't know what photo you have. i will identify which suspect was involved in which shooting regarding the videos that we have to offer you. does that make sense? >> you're saying suspect number two, the one shot last night, had the tech 9 assault weapon? >> yes. he's the one you'll see with the tech 9 weapon. >> where did you recover the weapon? >> it was afterwards in a search warrant, during a search warrant to recover the weapon, at a residence or something. i don't know the exact location. >> he was armed last night? >> he was not armed last night. our officers were working under the assumption that he's armed

and dangerous. there was a felony warrant for murder on that suspect. the information that we had was in realtime that he was armed with a tech 9. the same tech 9 you'll see in the video we'll provide you guys. we also had information that the suspect was going to kill a fe maelg. that female ended up in his car that we located him during our surveillance. our officers really were, based on again, i'm not here to justify any of these shootings. i'm here to provide and relay information to you all and to understand what happened here is that the officers are armed with information that this person is considered armed and dangerous. he is on parole for robbery. and he has a warrant for murder. he's also, we have credible information that hige's about t kill this female that now is in

his car. the suspect realizes that he's being tailed. and at some point, he tries to evade the team of officers that are following him. one of the officers is able to get in a pursuit behind the suspect. during the pursuit or towards the end of the pursuit, the suspect crashes the car right there on kirkhaven and stonehaven. he bails out of the car and takes off on foot. the female stays in the car. our officer pursues the suspect on foot. he's giving the suspect commands, and the suspect now is heading towards the house, toward the front of a house. our officer knows that this person has already committed a homicide. our officer believes this person is armed with a deadly weapon, specifically tech 9 assault weapon. and he also understands that

hig he's spoupposedly about to kill thissy in male in the car. we don't know where he's heading to. if he allows this person to break into this house or go into this house w, we have a barricad hostage situation and we know this person is suspected of having murdered someone else earlier this week. so the officer fired at the suspect once he did not comply with the officers' commands. the suspect turned around and the officer fired again. eventually the suspect fell and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. >> and we've been listening in wor with san jose police releasing nor information in their search for a third suspect in an investigation. >> there was a torture and murder that occurred on lundy avenue. police searching for the

it's a far cry from yesterday's triple-digit heat. 95 in antioch. our warmest spot in the bay area. 99, 94 in ukiah. 88 in concord. 81 san jose. okland 74. san francisco 74. santa rose a79. a good 5 to 18 degrees cooler than yesterday. now take a look at the temperatures running 1 to 15 degrees warmer which is exactly what many people are talking about and want to see and hear about. so we'll keep that cooling trend going from our east bay hills camera. also picking up a little bit of the smoke here. and smoke may be why you're having difficulty breathing. moderate across the region. smoke levels are running moderate. high pressure overhead. the air sinking underneath that.
