five tankers, two helicopters, a number of hand crews and dozers working the fire. so hopefully we will have a handle on it soon but i have no containment at this time. >> seems like a lot of resources. is that enough? >> we are hoping it is enough. that is why they requested so much more. initially we sent eight engines along with aircraft and dozers. once they got out there and got a better look at it they requested the additional ten engines so hopefully we will have a handle on it soon. >> we are looking at video where the fire is approaching an area where we see a structure from our helicopter image. it's not at the structure. any word on that? >> i'm afraid i don't. like i said, i'm getting reports that the fire is near a structure or structures but i can't confirm it.

moving some of the smoke towards the tracy area but also out towards some areas where there aren't many people living which is a good factor there as you take a look at the winds here pretty gusty around fairfield and livermore right now wind at 16 miles per hour. patterson pass tends to be windy spots so that wind is not going to ease up anytime soon. that will make it tough for the firefighters. >> thanks very much. now to our other big story. serious allegations against uber tonight. san francisco district attorney says rapists, kidnappers and killers are driving people to their destinations. >> it is frightening to think about who you are trusting behind the wheel. abc 7 news reporter vic lee is in the news room with more on the story. >> basically this is an amended version of the civil complaint that d.a. gascon and counter

part filed against uber. that complaint said uber was misleading passengers about drivers' back grounds. this document actually lists the criminal back grounds of dozens of its drivers most from los angeles but some from san francisco. murder, lewd acts with children, kidnapping, assault with a firearm, robbery, i.d. theft. the amended complaint cites 22 drivers with serious felonies who passed uber's background checks. district attorney says many former sex offenders won't show up on its system at all. >> approximately 30 registered sex offenders do not appear on the public registry available to identify sex offenders. >> reporter: uber's system he says has big gaping holes. >> the background process cannot tell if someone was convicted of a serious crime more than seven

years ago. >> taxi drivers in san francisco and most other cities undergo checks using their finger prints, a process that he says uber does not do. >> if you have a fingerprint the fact that they were arrested and convicted would show. >> we plebelieve the system is extensive and detailed. >> over a thousand have failed the background check system as sex offenders. >> uber says the reality is -- >> no background check process is 100% fool proof. we have had discussion with the district attorney. we respectfully disagree. >> charges that misleading the public is an unfair business practice which violates the law. vic lee, abc 7 news. san francisco's city attorney has dropped a lawsuit against the social networking site accused of revealing the location of children to strangers.

meetme.com promotes interaction between strangers. the city attorney sued the site claiming it violated state laws. the suit was settled after ground breaking revisions enacted by the site to protect children. tonight oakland police are trying to explain the use of deadly force. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony was invited by police to watch the video from body cameras oakland police officers were wearing during the chase and shooting. she joins us live with what she saw on the video. >> reporter: oakland police admit that they are responding to public pressure. they are trying to change the narrative hoping to change the narrative. but their critics aren't convinced including some who have seen the body camera video themselves. >> we believe that doing it in the manner that we have done it will allow us to correct some of the misinformation out there. >> reporter: they wouldn't

release images to the public oakland police showed body camera video to a group of reporters they say to clear up confusion about the shooting of 28-year-old nate wilkes. >> officers arrived began a foot chase with the person who was running with a firearm in his hand. during the course of the foot pursuit the suspect stopped and ran back towards the police officer. >> reporter: wilkes was shot here last wednesday at 27th and martin luther king while being pursu pursued. the video shows wilkes running from officers with what appears to be a gun. police can be heard yelling get on the ground and drop the gun. >> what i saw did not justify them killing him. >> reporter: willic's mother saw the same body camera video yesterday. >> nothing was pointed at them. i just don't feel it was justified.

>> your goal was just to kill them. >> nothing they can tell me to make me believe that was justifiable. >> reporter: oakland police say they will release the video to the public once completed the investigation. in oakland, laura anthony, abc 7 news. one person is under arrest after leading authorities on a high speed chase that ended with a car crashing nootd a home. this car flowed into a home this afternoon. the driver was taken into custody. nobody was home at the time. oakland police say the vehicle looks like a law enforcement car but nais not one. sad news from the pacific ocean in a story we followed for the past 24 hours. a man died aboard a cargo ship. you can see members of an elite rescue team parachuting from the back of a plane into the open ocean in this video provided by

the california air national guard. highly trained medics swam to the cargo ship. that team flew 900 miles to the ship which was west of san diego. the 129th rescue wing tweeted the picture of the ship. once on board the medical team treated the man for several hours but sadly he died this morning. the 129th is credited with saving the lives of 1,000 people over the years. nasa says land is sinking faster than ever because of the drought. the reports of land sinking from sacramento to bakersfield. one section of kings county sank 13 inches in eight months. we have seen sinking land before because of excessive ground water pumping but new data shows it is happening faster butting infrastructure -- governor brown talked about transportation but not about where the state would get money

needed to repair the bad, bumpy roads. jonathan bloom is live with more on the story. >> reporter: the problems appear anytime you get behind the wheel. road maintenance put off during the recession is probably taking a toll on your car and your patience. the solution depends on who you talk to and could have you paying more every time you stop here to fill up. how are you finding the roads? >> terrible. they destroyed my car. >> reporter: a unique perspective on california's decaying roads. >> the pot holes i see on the cars i work on. >> reporter: at the state capitol they say it too. governor brown spoke at the port of oakland. >> i will not say where the revenue is going to come from cht. >> reporter: in a special session he is expecting lawmakers to figure it out. >> a pot hole is neither a republican nor democrat.

here at the mall there is a lot of competition for the jobs. some workers say every dollar counts but as the cost of business keeps going up they are worried about their hours being cut. in silicon valley the struggle is real for some living paycheck to paycheck. san jose state university student works two jobs one of which is at the mall. >> i wanted to go where the higher minimum wage was just because if i'm going to be working as hard as everybody else i want to make the same amount of money. >> reporter: works on the san jose side of the mall where minimum wage is $10.30 an hour. on the santa clara side it is $9. last night santa clara council went forward with a plan to raise minimum wage to $11 an hour starting in 2016. >> our concern is the small businessman doesn't have the band width to take on the extra costs. >> reporter: roy truitt with the chamber of commerce believes the

minimum wage issue should be set by state and federal authorities rather than the local level. he fears additional moves would continue to pit cities against each other. >> saying how much longer can we absorb the costs before we have to shut down because we won't be able to afford to do business. >> she is trying to level the playing field offering the same wage for her employees at both shops. while it has been tough trying to keep up with increasing costs she supports minimum wage increase. >> in the past when there have been wage increases we have had a little bit of a struggle. we always stepped up to the challenge to try to find a way to make it work. >> reporter: the city council will vote on the proposed ordinance in late september. robin williams' three children are accusing williams' widow of trying to get more than she is entitled to.

it is the latest legal fight over robin williams' state. they are asking the judge to dismiss a petition filed by the father's widow accusing her of holding on to property that should belong to them. the two sides are set to appear in court next week. a lawsuit filed in san francisco today accuses costco of selling shrimp that is harvested by slave labor in thailand. the suit claims the shrimp products are sourced from a company in thailand known to rely on slave labor and human trafficking. the bay area law firm says costco knows about the practice. >> costco's public statements directly contradict the evidence that is available. this is a hard evidence case. this is not a generalized case where someone will come in and say you have nothing backing you. >> costco tells abc 7 news they are working with officials in thailand to address concerns

brought up. they are offering dissatisfied customers full refunds on shrimp products. moving on to consumer news if you have a home aquarium there is a warning from the centers of disease control. >> something i didn't know. it looks harmless and looks beautiful but the cdc says the colorful coral might be poisonous. the cdc recorded ten recent illnesses from toxins found in coral. holding or cleaning the rock can release and it happened to one family when they boiled the coral in an effort to get it clean. >> my wife was complaining that her chest hurts and she was laboring breathing. the dogs were laboring breathing. i knew something was up at that point. >> the toxin can also cause fever and nausea. always use gloves and wash your hands if you handle those rocks. would you try to get good
