get back out there and save my house and my lovely oak tree. >> the fire did destroy one unoccupied home. investigators are trying to figure out what started the fire. wildfire managers are starting to let some burn themselves out because there are not enough resources to fight them. nearly 100 fires across the western u.s. right now. resources are stretched so thin that civilians are jumping on to the fire lines in northern idaho to help overwhelmed firefighters. in idaho this image of destruction. a family of dogs stand guard over the body of a fawn. resident armstrong said they stayed until dark. fires in northern idaho have destroyed 42 homes. the issue of cell phones and possible radiation dangers back in court. the industry is suing the city of berkeley over the ordinance requiring customers to be told about possible health warnings.

>> it's interesting because san francisco had one. it was then challenged and then the board of supervisors said we can't afford all of the legal cost and then it was dropped. berkeley's ordinance is called right to know. it is the watered down version of san francisco's and it, too, may not survive. when buying a cell phone customers must be told about radiation exposure. the ordinance was passed by the berkeley city council and is now being challenged by the cell phone industry. >> there may be circumstances when the government can provide a warning label with something but the government's got to show a justification for it and berkeley is not able to do that. >> reporter: supporters say the health implications when holding a cell phone too close are not what customers are toldi. >> there is in your phone information that the fcc requires that says keep it a

defined distance from your body or you may exceed the exposure limits. >> reporter: the california brain tumor association says that information regarding radio frequency exposure provided by the fcc is on your phone but many don't know it is there. >> you go to settings, general, then about and then scroll all the way down to legal and then you go to the exposure and there it is. >> reporter: the cell phone industry takes issue with the ordinance because it warns of a greater potential risk for children even though it's not backed by a scientific study. other cities are closely watching this case before deciding to move forward with similar measures, a decision expected in a few months. in san francisco lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. oakland lost a court fight aimed at blocking the federal government from shutting down one of the largest medical

marijuana dispensaries ruling it lacks the authority to block prosecutors from seizing health center's property. the city argued closing harbor side would trigger health and safety. authorities are removing what is left of a large marijuana bust last week. this is video showing sheriff's deputy and park rangers using a helicopter to haul off hazardous materials and trash. it is in a remote area near lake necasio. the growers left behind fertilizer and pesticide that is being taken away, too. investigators are still looking for the suspects who set up this grow operation. friends and family members of a man who died after a foot chase are accusing the department of excessive force. theyeralied accusing police of causing the death of richard

lynnyard last month. authorities say he ran from officers and then wedged himself between a tight space and then died of asphyxiation. >> they say he killed himself by suffocating. all of that is a lie. >> he was in good health, though. >> he was in good health. >> police are calling the death tragic. yesterday the department showed members of the media including laura anthony body camera video which appeared to show police discovering his body wedged between two buildings. police say his family has declined the offer to view the video. san francisco police are looking for two men who robbed two people at gun point after crashing into the victim's car. it happened in the south of market neighborhood at the intersection of sixth and harrison. police say the man pointed a gun and took the victim's cell phone and california's driver's license and got back into the car and drove off. thousands of california high school seniors held back from

graduating after the state's exit exam was terminated might get diplomas after all. today the state assembly giving the affected students a reprieve from the phased out test. if it passes it will go to the governor's desk for his signature. students who tried to take the test could not because the state contract to administer the test had expired. school started in a lot of bay area counties and today is move in day at san francisco state university. melanie woodrow explains this year's freshman class is bigger. >> there is just something about firsts that is unforgettable. >> reporter: first day of college. >> i'm so excited to be here. >> reporter: first room mate. >> what are you most excited about? >> meeting new people cht. >> reporter: first one in the family to attend. >> we are so proud of him.

the chp arrested one woman after she led them on a high speed chase through at least three bay area cities. it started at about 3:00 a.m. they tried to pull her over but she took off driving up to 120 miles per hour through richmond, berkeley and into san francisco where she crashed into that fire hydrant and caused that mess. there is a new effort to keep pedestrians safe in san francisco. the focus is in the upper market area. this morning workers finished painting safety zones. no right turn on red signs have gone up. the six way intersection is really among the most dangerous in the city. >> these intersections are confusing for drivers who don't know how they are supposed to make a turn or when they are supposed to make a turn.

>> the painted area creates a safety zone for pedestrians. the project is part of the city's plan to end traffic deaths in san francisco by 2024. a state legislator wants to take a program statewide to improve safety conditions at nail salons. this afternoon announced he is forming a task force to look at ways to reduce exposure of toxic chemicals requires salon owners to improve ventilation. >> they have to train their staff on how to safely use the products and make sure that they are wearing protective equipment, gloves and masks and eye protection. >> the so-called healthy nails salons use products that do not cause cancer. turns out the lone gray wolf cited wasn't as lonesome as

appeared. photos were released showing a pack of wolves. the photos taken by motion activated trail cameras. officials believe the wolf is a member of this group which is now being called the shasta pack. it was spotted in 2011. before that the last wolf sighting in california was 1924. scientists blamed california's drought on global warmer. now some think global warming is making it worst. they estimate ground water levels fallen between 8% and 27% from 2012 to 2014. the study also warns future droughts will effect california by reducing ground water reserves. new information also out today shows july was earth's hottest month in recorded history. global temperatures averaged 61.86 degrees fahrenheit last

month. the first seven months of this year are the hottest january to july span on record. the federal government began keeping weather records in 1880. a coupteenager is graduatin from one of the most prestigious ballet academies in the world. we have more on a young man who is turning heads one great leap at a time. >> reporter: he is a young man who dreams of becoming the next ballet superstar. >> ballet is probably one of the only arts where it is readable in all languages. >> reporter: the story starts where he was born. he took his first dance class at a local studio when he was 5. he has transformed into an artist and spent the past three years attending the academy where he recently graduated. >> i loved it and then hated

an ugly finish on wall street today. stocks lower the worst performance and deepening worries over the pace of global growth. the dow dropped nearly 360 points. that's two percent of the value to 16,990. the nasdaq fell more than 140 points and the s&p 500 fell 43
