awe said, a celebration of a little girl more than it was a memorial there are still people who are inside right now. they're enjoying a few of her favorite things, pop music and snacks. [bagpipes playing] >> reporter: the service did begin with a traditional bagpipe procession that included madison middleton's mother and close friend, but the event quickly turned into a musical tribute and celebration of the girl most people called made. the mayor read a proclamation naming her upcoming birthday, mady middleton day in accept cruz, and her mother thank the people who she'd up. >> i'd like to thank all of you for your kindness and support. i also want to share with you two things from mady so you can get to know my daughter at bit

better. >> she then went on to read an entry from mady's die and i then showed a segment of video from her daughter residents video blog. madison was found near the tannery art center where she lived, according to initial autopsy reports she suffered stab wounds and died of asphyxiation. 15-year-old adrian gonsalez has been charged in her death. he lived in the art community. among the songs of celebration for mady today there were quite a few people who talked about forgiveness, the teen who is charged in her murder is facing adult felony charges, including murder and kidnapping. reporting live in santa cruz, abc7 news. >> a three-year-old girl shot in a drive-by in oakland is expected to fully recover. police say she suffered a superficial wound. the girl and a 35-year-old man were sitting in a parked car on 77th avenue when someone drove by and began shooting last

night. the man was shot in the chest and arm and is expected to recover. a suspicious item in a passenger's back forces the closure of a terminal at sfo. we were at terminal 2, which was shut up to for an hour and a half. as the bomb squad responded. passengers were directed to terminal 1. tsa says the incident caused major delays. officials will not say what the suspicious item was but say there was no threat. passengers have been posting pictures and video of the situation. in this photo of passengers outside terminal 2 was posted on twitter. join our community and show us what is happening where you live. share you photos and videos using the hash tag, abc7 news. big delays for bart passengers. bart says an equipment problem on the thanks forced train to stop. san francisco fire crews responded to reports smoke at the glen park station. they evacuated the platform and shut town the station.

closer to cleaning up the great pacific garbage patch where tons of plastics pollute the water. we were at pier 32 in san francisco where crews returned from a 30-day expedition. they mapped the patch. >> has been a tremendous success. the mother ship has been able to successfully sample the large debris, finding out how much big plastic is out there, and that is something nobody has ever done before. >> crews found hundred times more plastics than marine life. they collected things bike bottles, fishing buoy and fishing gear. >> this week is the tenth never of the day hurricane katrina slammed into louisiana, causing unprecedented damage, especially to city of new orleans. president obama will travel there on thursday. he'll be followed by former president bush and laura bush on

abc7 news was in oakland's china town for a street festival celebrating the chinese year the goat. some call it the year of the ram or sheep because chinese cultures find these animals lovelier and fluffier. >> it's very soft. i like this. >> the free streetfest had more than 200 vendor booths lining two blocks in downtown oakland. officials at the national zoo are optimistic twin banta cubs will survive. the panda mom mei xiang gave birth yesterday. each panda cub gets a chance to nurse and bond with its mother. the technique allows several pairs of panda twins to survive.
