red cross is helping. the former resident of discovery sales has taken a plea agreement. abc 7 news reporter is live in the newsroom to explain the case. >> reporter: it's an on going investigation. it outlines the connection between a prominate developer and his family to questionable home sales. they housed seeno family businesses. today, a plea deal involving a former employee for conspiracy to commit bank fraud. >> the company is the largest privately owned construction company in the bay area for building homes. they build a lot of homes.

>> reporter: a company created to sell homes built by discovery builders. >> this is about a mortgage scam where they were misleading underwriters babout the true value of the home. >> the seller gives 50,000 cash back to the buyer without the lender knowing, or perhaps caring. thus, inflating the market. >> it's something that i saw a few times as a listing agent. i saw offers come in that were like that and i treated them as suspect. >> they are over inflating the price of the homes, which lead to the mortgage bubble. >> reporter: we've reached out and not heard back.

one year ago today a magnitude 6 earthquake and i saw some of the damage still quite evident in napa's historic area. and here's a look at one office building then and here's what the same building looks like today. under construction and still waiting to be back in business. repairs began today at a napa school, st. john the baptist school. school officials tell us the building suffered nearly $800,000 in damage. and it took so long because of historic property policy. >> and of course, when you think of napa, you think of wine, and
