officer shot and wounded a map today right croat the stream from a middle school. cornell bernard has the story you'll see only on abc7 news. cornell, what are police telling you? >> reporter: police say the unidentified suspect is being treated at san francisco general hospital, after being wounded on this very spot by a police officer on this very quiet street. police officer police say the man refused to drop his weapon. >> terrible. really terrible. >> reporter: a quiet sunday morning in south fran seasons, shattered by the sound of gunfire. >> i was about to go outside for a run, and then i heard a gunshot and right after that i heard the sirens going. so right after i there'd that, i decided to stay inside i. >> reporter: police got a call there was a man with a gun walking down romney avenue. >> the resident reported a male subject with a shotgun or rifle. >> reporter: police say two officers located the man and told him to drop the shotgun.

>> he was given multiple commands by the officers to comply with the officers' request. he remained armed with the firearm, which forced the officer to fire his weapon. >> reporter: the man was wounded. his gun, which sat in the middle of del monte avenue was never fired. one witness says the suspect pointed his gus at officers. >> told him to get on the ground self sometimes i. the guy kept advancing towards the police officer. he raised a long object-appeared to be a shotgun, and the 'guy raised up and, bang, the guy fell to the ground. >> reporter: neighbor says they'd never seen the man before. and others say this is the last place they expect a police shooting. >> very quiet neighborhood. never happens here. >> reporter: a police investigation is now underway in south san francisco, abc7 news. >> a manhunt continues in the

east bay where someone shot and killed a woman last night as she was leaving heir east oak loaned home. the 29-year-old jessica anderson just got into a car with a friend outside of her home when another car pulled up and a man tried to rob the two. he then started shooting into the car. the gunman sped away taught taking anything. anderson's friend was not injured. she leaves behind a two-year-old daughter. tonight, main artery connecting the south bay to san francisco will be close held in five hours. it's the continuing fallout after this accident on friday. sky 7hd shows us the scene. a construction crane hit a transmission tower, sending power lines across highway 101 on the peninsula. you can see on this map the stretches of 101 that will be closed from 10:00 tonight to 4:00 tomorrow morning as repair work continues. basically 101 northbound will be shut down between mel be a and burlingame. southbound lanes closed from millbrae to popular avenue in

san mateo sir. >> there's a lot of work ahead? >> reporter: quite a bit of work ahead. a five-hour project. let me show you what crews have been doing. those two poles heave -- have been installed. next it to a massive crane. pg&e crews set everything up to get right to work come 10:0 tonight. one of the main objectives today was installing the temporary power poles that will hold six power lines. four lines came down across the freeway friday. they had to remove what was left of the massive metal power that was hit by the construction equipment. crews have prestrung ropes they'll use to hoist the power loins on to the two temporary poles. >> we're going to be taking about 1500 feet of wire and it's going to be pulled with a rope across the highway, and

this woman, miyuki harwood is recovering in a hospital after spending nine days stranded in the wilderness of the sierra national forest. search teams found harwood yesterday. she needed surgery after breaking her leg during her ordeal. harwood's family released a statement today saying, quote, miyuki would like to thank fresno county sheriff's search and rescue and their auxiliary organization for their incredible effort to find her. a highway patrol helicopter flew harwood from the mountain to a hospital in fresno. bay area search teams helped in the effort to find her. the fresno county sheriff's office shared these pictures showing the rugged at the rein where she was located. she blew a whistle once she heard searchers nearby. another tale of survival. this time a woman surfing survived a shark attack yesterday morning near san lewis obest bow. the 54-year-old eleanor dempsey says she pushed her board toward

starting tomorrow, some sonoma county residents can receive recycled water for free to water are lawns and gardens. the program is similar to other communities such as dublin and san ramon. residents can fill containers at the wastewater treatment plant. they can receive up to 300 gallons per visit. it will be open monday through thursday. everyday they serve thousand odd commuters. today local bus drivers showed off the skill it takes to do it safely. abc7 news was in south san francisco where sam transdrivers competed in a bus rodeo for the

that's the week ahead. take a look at ignacio, a little more ragged, more sheer taking place and less of a visible eye. this continues to rapidly weaken and we'll look at it getting closer and closer to hawai'i. so, still looking at tropical storm force winds. it's a category 3 now. will continue to weaken, moving to the north and west over the big island. but looking at a lot of rain and dangerous surf. so interest in the islands, keep an eye on that. look outside from our east bay hills camera. look how nice it looks. 70 in san francisco, 78, mountain view. morgan hill, 80s. half moon bay, 68. and where we saw the warmest numbers, where we had a little north wind, beach day in santa cruz, 80s there and north wind bringing santa rosa into the 80s.

it's been breezy elsewhere. san francisco, mountain view, san jose, the sea breeze making it feel more typical. you can see a few puffs of clouded he. some fog. so patchy low clouds tonight. a cooler evening with a sunny and seasonal rebound tomorrow for your monday, and then a couple of weak systems push through, bring us morning mist and drizzle. tuesday, wednesday, bringing the temperatures down, mainly inlands. tonight, cooler in the north bay. mid-50s here, 59 in oakland, palo alto; santa cruz, 56. and the fog from the coast to hayward and fremont for folks getting up and going to work. you'll notice that. so, as the system pushes to the north and east, there's another one, and that's going to provide that cooling and maybe some mist and drizzle. no rain on the horizon. the outlook for the next seven to ten days looks dry, but looking more seasonal. highs tomorrow, one of the warmer days. monday, with 84 in morgan hill.
