collaborate to figure out what does it take for us to be able to preexist collectively on these roads. >> reporter: other bicycle groups did not want to comment, but they acknowledge that bicyclists must go with the flow and ride in the same direction as traffic. san francisco, leann melendez, abc 7 news. now, to what may be the largest apple account theft ever discovered. researchers say a piece of malwema malware is affecting iphones. the victim accounts all apparently belong to people who unlock their iphones so apps can be installed. that's hard to prove by apple's app store. the malware is being spread by third party distributors in china. governor brown is taking action to bolster california's preparedness for a possible cyber attack. the governor funded an executive order directing the office of emergency services to create a cybersecurity hub. the center will help strengthen

cybersecurity strategies and improve communication between local, state and federal agencies, and nongovernmental agencies. some very tense moments this afternoon as police chase a suspect they spotted in oakland. sky 7 hd was overhead as the chase wound through the fruitvale section before it reached a b.a.r.t. station. laura? >> reporter: hi, dan. this all started this afternoon with a home burglary near seminary and international, just south of here. there a witness we're told spotted the red mini cooper, and the suspect, and called police with a license number. that car was spotted a short time later by oakland police plain clothes officers, and that's when the chase began through the streets of oakland. it appears that a couple of times the red mini nearly collided with other cars, blowing through red lights, driving the wrong way, before it arrived here at the fruitvale b.a.r.t. station where the

suspect parked it under a tree and got out of the vehicle. he got out of the car, tried to hide here in the parking lot behind some other cars. police quickly spotted him and made their arrest. a short time later, they brought the suspect out on the street, handcuffed him, and had him stand there for what is called a field show, a chance for the witness to identify him. that witness was kept in a police vehicle with darkened windows a short distance away. it's not clear if the suspect was wanted for any other crimes. the red mini cooper was put up on a flatbed truck, taken away. the suspect presumably taken to jail. in east oakland, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> laura, thank you. more details emerge today in the deadly shooting of an assault suspect by an oakland police officer. it includes the name of the officialer and man she killed. jennifer farrell said 30-year-old flung a bicycle chain at her last thursday. the 18-year veteran fired after she was hit in the head with the

chain. police reveal that the suspect was the same man accused of beheading a canada goose near lake mer rick last month. officers tased him during that arrest. a college student is suing singer chris brown after he was shot at a show in san jose. video from inside the nightclub shows brown flinching as shots were fired in january. five people were hit, including 22-year-old paul riley. he was shot in the foot and says he suffered a permanent injury as well as emotional trauma. the lawsuit claims the club was oversold. and didn't have enough security. given a history of violence at chris brown shows. southwest airlines is investigating a collision between two planes at oakland international airport. the wings clipped last night as a 737 loaded with passengers tried to depart for orange county. abc 7 news reporter katy utis has more on the accident and what may have led to it. she is live at the airport tonight. katy? >> reporter: good evening.

southwest flights make up more than two-thirts of the more than 300 daily flights out of oakland international airport. this type of incident is extremely rare. but just two months ago, a similar wing clip collision happened in southern california involving southwest planes. long lines at the ticket counter late last night at oakland international airport, all following a collision. >> we were backing out, about ten seconds from the gate. and heard a loud popping noise. basically a jolt. >> reporter: passengers snapped photos of a snapped wing tip after southwest flight 2674 tried to depart from the gate around 10:30 for a trip to orange county. >> we saw the wing tip on the right side come off. and you could tell that both planes clipped each other, because the movement wasn't natural. >> it was just the scraping kind of thing, like if you were in an auto collision. >> reporter: oakland international airport directed us to southwest for the

investigation. the airline has released few details. since both planes involved are out of service, and will undergo maintenance checks, sky 7 saw them parked this morning. a spokesperson would not answer questions regarding who was in control of the planes involved. pilots, or ground crews. >> we had to flag down a flight attendant and say, look out there. that's not supposed to look like that. >> reporter: back in june a similar collision happened between two southwest jets in burbank. both crashes involved the winglets which are extensions added to the wing for efirst si starting in 2000. it increases the wing span by about five feet according to the manufacturer. oakland airport officials say those extra few feet should not be a factor in the collision. they're striped based on the dimensions of the planes. in oakland, katy utis, abc 7 news. this incident happened while oakland international is celebrating a big increase in business. more than 10 million people flew

in and out of that airport, up 9% from the year before. about 500 students were told to stay home today after an overnight fire. investigators are calling it suspicious in los gatos. the large fire broke out late last night. district officials canceled classes today at the two schools. the fire destroyed a community center, and damaged the gymnasium that sits between two campuses. >> highly utilized, very busy component of our district resources. this will be a loss not only to the kids, but to the community. >> there are surveillance cameras in the building, but the hard drive was inside. it's not yet clear if it's salvageable. the kids are all expected back in class tomorrow. pg&e is being fined for not having strong enough security at a substation, it was shot up in 2013, then burglarized in august

of last year. someone stole $40,000 in equipment. the california public utility commission fined pg&e for violating the security code. it was not aware of the burglary for several hours afterward. a federal appeals court offered few cls today on whether it will determine whether california's death penalty is unconstitutional. a three-judge panel of the ninth circuit court of appeals heard arguments in pasadena, whether the death penalty process is so dysfunctional, that it's cruel and unusual punishment. the past 37 years, only 13 of the 900 people sentenced to die in california have been executed. during that period, 94 death row inmates have died from natural causes. tonight, four days after legionnaires' disease was discovered in san quentin prison, they still have to eat boxed meals.

they confirmed six inmates are treated for the disease. 73 other inmates are under observation for respiratory illness but have not been diagnosed. no new inmates have been admitted since the disease was discovered. prison officials let the inmates have out-of-cell time today. a highway is open, but a construction project is closed. what really knocked out a pg&e tower and why the work may look a little different in the future. also ahead, what chipotle is using in its food that has california consumers now suing to get rid of. a tourist hot spot goes low-tech to make it safer for everyone. and the issue of climate change and the top hollywood actress joining the fight in sacramento. you can call them real life hot wheels. the cars thieves like to steal most.

the project to widen a bridge on the peninsula is on hold right now as investigators try to figure out how this accident could affect the work. the construction accident here at highway 101 and broadway in burlingame sent the live power lines onto the freeway overnight. it included two shutdowns in the area. there may be more freeway closures to come. here's the story. >> reporter: ama, when pg&e basically finished up their work this morning, they cleared out of here, because they had successfully installed their two temporary power poles, and also the high-voltage cables to be strung onto them. but if you take a look at this construction project, there is no one here. that's because there's an ongoing investigation of friday's accident. inspectors spent part of the day climbing on and snapping

pictures of this massive piece of construction equipment. according to pg&e, this is the vehicle that toppled their transmission tower causing high-voltage lines to fall onto highway 101 this weekend. >> this third-party contractor, way too close to the tower. we want to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. we'll be working with them. >> reporter: that third-party contract is a company that has not responded to requests for comment. the person operating the es ka vater has not been identified. this bridge widening project is now on hold as inspectors try to figure out how this happened. >> we want to make sure we find out the whole timeline of what happened leading up to the accident. >> reporter: pg&e will eventually have to replace the temporary poles with another steel tower. meaning highway 101 will likely have to be shut down again, but probably not until it's completed in 2017. cal trans said it's too early to figure out how much this accident will cost. that's also part of this

investigation. >> pg&e is going to have to total up their damages to their property, and then there will possibly be other people filing claims for damages as well. >> reporter: when the power lines came down across highway 101 friday night, a u.p.s. delivery driver was trapped in his truck because power lines were on it. after more than four hours, he was finally able to get out and go home. according to u.p.s., a supervisor then completed his delivery route at 3:30 in the morning. in burlingame, abc 7 news. san francisco has increased patrols on the crooked section of lombard street less than a week after a tourist was shot just a few steps from the popular tourist area. but these are not regular police officers patrolling the area, they are called street ambassadors. they will walk around the crooked part of the street to help tourists, clear driveways, and keep traffic moving. the ambassadors are also there for added security. >> they're not going to be carrying weapons or anything like that. they're going to be positioned on top and bottom of the hill,

working with tourists, working with residents, remind people of the public safety concerns out there. >> the area has seen an increase in crime like car break-ins and thefts, especially targeting tourists. the city will have extra ambassadors during the weekends when it's particularly busy. california's democratic lawmakers are mounting a last-minute search to fight climate change. jim cooper tweeted this picture of his colleague standing with actress halle barry. they want to cut fossil fuel use. other lawmakers joined the leaders calling for action on climate change. some chipotle customers say the burrito chain is not keeping its word. >> michael finney is here with more on that. but first, michael, something else to talk about. >> people think of the final american dream event of the

popular burr rita chain chipotle declared it is completely gmo-free in april. it's being sued over alleged use of gmos. the class action lawsuit has been filed here in san francisco, claiming chipotle's venue has never been completely gmo-free. the restaurant they say served soda brands which makes their drinks with corn syrup. the most stolen cars are also america's best sellers. the national insurance crime bureau released its yearly most stolen hot cars list. here are the top five. thieves stole more than 51,000 accords last year. nearly 44,000 civics. more than 28,000 ford full sized pickups. 23,000 chevrolet full-sized pickups. almost 15,000 toyota camrys.

boy, a sight over the weekend, see a hump back whale came out of the water next to the group of women. then it dove back down. paddle border viviana said she has never seen whales come quite so close to miramar beach. a driver sheared off a fire hydrant today. check this picture out from catherine sumner. she sent it to us on twitter. you can see the geyser spewing at the intersection of newell avenue in walnut creek. fortunately the water just ran down into the street and into the storm drains.

so no damage to homes or businesses. research shows 25 minutes of brisk walking every day can add seven years to your life. they say moderate exercise can cut in half the risk of death from heart attack among people in their 50s and 60s. data also shows a little bit of exercise can delay the aging process, and perhaps even delay the onset of dementia. more than ever, scientists say it's never too late to start exercising. your mother was right, scientists at uc san francisco say the less sleep you get, the more likely you are to catch a cold. specifically if you sleep less than six hours a night, you're four times more likely to catch a cold. the findings suggest sleep deprivation make people more susceptible to infectious diseases. the bottom line, lack of sleep afegs your physical health. there is now an android app for iphone. releasing an iphone app for the
