good morning, everyone. thanks for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's get a check of the accuweather forecast with frances lawson. >> hi, chris. good morning, everyone. i want to show you this pretty shot looking out toward clay tower. nothing but blue skies out there. temperatures on the cool side. we are climbing into the 50s in many locations. san francisco currently 55. oakland 58. san jose 55 degrees. here is what you can expect. the warming trend starts today. look for some upper 80s even near 90 in antioch. 74 in san francisco. oakland 77. 81 in san jose. things warm up more for sunday where we'll start to see mid 90s and then getting even hotter for

memorial day. upper 90s, as well in some of the interior locations. i'll let you know when we can expect a break in the hot weather. >> thank you. happening now, allow yourself plenty of time to get in and out of san francisco this weekend. it's going to be a rough few days. the three-day b.a.r.t. tube closure is under way and will last until tuesday morning. the construction project closed the intersection of fourth and king in the city next to the ballpark. abc 7 news reporter katie has the story. >> reporter: monday through friday commuters aren't giving much thought to the transbay closure. some have to work this holiday weekend. >> probably i'll work from home, but i have to come to the office. probably i will get in uber. >> this employer helped organize carpools. >> they e-mailed everybody and told them who they could ride with and who was coming from where. theyer interactive like that.

transbay. 8:03 is our time there was a bizarre incident at san francisco's ocean beach yesterday. a kite surfer was dragged through the air into oncoming traffic. police said he wasn't in the water yet. he was setting up his board on the sand near great highway and slope boulevard when a wind gust hit. it lifted and carried him more than 40 feet into the southbound lane. he was twisting and couldn't separate himself from his gear. others at the beach said the wind was great for surfing, but the gusts made it dangerous. >> normally, it's really consistent wind so it's predictable. today because it's so gusty up and down, it's unpredictable which makes it dangerous. >> the kite surfer was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. police shut down the great highway during the response. a north bay family is in shock after a fire destroyed the house they built by hand. abc 7 news was in windsor as flames erupted on vine crest

road about 5:30 p.m. yesterday. the fire spread through the surrounding grassland burning two acres. windsor is north of santa rosa on highway 101. rodney built the house about 30 years ago. he has no idea how the fire started. >> my wife said the house is on fire. i grabbed a hose and the water was off by that time. it went fast. >> firefighters were able to keep the firing burning. luckily no one was hurt. >> two north bay residents in federal custody charged in a widespread criminal investigation of child porn that includes victims at home and overseas. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard has details. >> cops up the street. >> reporter: neighbors woke to a predawn raid by the fbi searching novato home of

29-year-old patrick harvey arrested for child porn. it was a federal investigation which snared 40-year-old corey allies who is charged with possession, production and distribution of child porn. >> it took a horrible person off the street. >> reporter: san francisco police internet crimes against children unit assisted and found more than 600 images of children at ellis' san francisco home. even images of small children in bondage. >> she was able to convince a family, a couple over in the uk and half of them to engage in child pornographic acts for her pleasure. and to send it to her. >> reporter: police in the uk placed those children in protective custody. she met patrick harvey and exchanged graphic child porn images. a shock to neighbors who say the family living here was quiet and polite. no one answered the door when we knocked. >> it's too close to me

personally, but it's also too close to there is a school right up the street. >> reporter: corey ellis pleaded not guilty and will be back in federal court next week. patrick harvey could enter a plea september 14th. cornell bernard, abc 7 news. palo alto police on the lookout for a man who slashed two young girls. the 10-year-olds were crossing ross road and ames avenue yesterday afternoon about two blocks from pallo verde elementary school. the man was parked inside a navy blue honda with no pants on. he made eye contact with the girls but didn't say anything. this is the third incident involving an adult disturbing a child in palo alto since school began august 17th. a security guard has been banned from working at whole foods after a violent incident in oakland thursday night. we want to warn you, the following images may be difficult to see. a witness took these photos at the whole foods. she said a security guard got

violent with a customer after an argument between the man and cashier. police are investigating it as an assault. whole foods is also investigating and says it has zero tolerance for violence. >> last night many of you saw abc world news tonight anchor david moderate a virtual audience with pope francis. the town home style meeting connected the pope with americans in the united states. they asked him questions directly and his answers clued us into what he may say when he visit washington, d.c. later this month. on top of his list, the immigration debate. >> we are all responsible for everyone. to help each other out as best we can. >> experts will be watching the pope's visit closely. pope francis plans to name him a saint when he comes to washington. >> he was one of california's

first immigrants. >> he came to california with the idea of trying to convert the native people to christianity. >> santa clara university professor has written extensively about serra whose missionary work started in mexico and moved north into spanish territory in california. he is among a number of experts who believe the pope is trying to send a message to americans about immigration. >> what the canonization reminds us is that the history of the united states was bicoastal and multiracial. >> another serra expert agrees. >> they are not so much newcomers, they are following in the footsteps of others who came before them and have a real place in the u.s. >> making serra a saint isn't without controversy. some are asking the pope to reconsider. they blame serra for bringing diseases that killed more than 150,000 native americans. those who survived were forced

>> sonoma county health department says keep your animals away from the river. they found algae in the water. a dog died from algae poisoning, most likely licking its fur after going in the river or playing in the water along the shore. signs are posted warning pet owners. >> rescuers will resume trying to free a blue whale entangled in hundreds of feet of line. it was spotted off the coast of southern l.a. county yesterday afternoon. the whale is about 75 feet long with a line connected to a buoy wrapped around its tail. crews removed as much line as possible before it got dark last night. marine mammal experts hope it will remove the drag so the whale won't get too exhausted. santa clara has a shuttle that looks like a four-seat golf cart with laser cameras with 360

50s in concord and in livermore. check out this pretty shot, as well, from the east bay camera being looking west toward the bay bridge and san francisco. here is what you need to know. we had a cool and clear start this morning. we are coming out of the 40s. the warming trend starts today. then look for warm to hot weather for labor day. that trend sticks around. here is why with the radar satellite image. we show you this trot. that brought us gusty wind conditions yesterday afternoon. this will move east. in its place we'll see high pressure building. that allows summer heat this holiday weekend. that offshore flow will keep things well above average through the work week, as well. with this system, we are also looking for hazardous beach conditions in effect this morning till monday evening. especially for south and southwest facing beaches. there will be a lot of strong rip currents, shore breaks and sneaker waves. watch the little ones as they head into the water.

>> they say the tv was too old. it was no good. >> reporter: esther doesn't want an updated tv. >> i'm 89 years old and social security. i can't just go out and buy a new television. >> reporter: she canceled her directv contact, redirected the cable. the tv works. the down side directv says she had to pay a $460 early termination fee. >> i shouldn't have to pay it because i wasn't pleased. they knew my television was old. i told them i was going to call 7 on my side. >> reporter: she did contact us. we told directv what happened and the company agreed to waive the fee telling us our remote control was not compatible with the customer television sets due to their age. the customer was required to use tv remotes in addition to ours. as a result, we waived the early cancellation fee. >> good. very good.

new this morning, president obama says labor day weekend is not only a time to celebrate the achievements of the middle class, but also a time to urge congress to pass a budget on time. in his weekly address, the president used friday's jobs report as evidence the economy is growing, citing the lowest unemployment rate in seven years and the addition of 173,000 jobs in august. >> if they don't, they'll shut down the government for the second time in two years. at a time when the global economy faces head winds and america's economy is a relative bright spot in the world. a shutdown of our government would be wildly irresponsible. >> reporter: the president urges everyone to tell congress to pass a budget that reflects the values we honor on labor day, such as rewarding hard work and giving everyone a fair shot. >> new this morning, you can add hilton hotels to the list of companies giving new parents more paid time off. starting next year, new moms who work for the chain will be able

francisco police department, officers this week will undergo a different type of training. cognitive bias refers to how we see things from a physical world in our minds such as two people seeing different things in an ink blot. cognitive bias may lead to inaccurate judgment and illogical interpretation. members of the forensic services division will receive the training. that is responsible for collecting evidence and providing analysis of dna, firearms and gun shot residue. a warning for bay area drivers this holiday weekend. the chp is in its maximum an enforcement period until monday night. they will be helping drivers in need and looking for impaired drivers. 2015 has proven to be one of the deadliest on the roads in 15 years. >> there is an increase in traffic volume. more motorists on the road, more cars on the roadway.

more people driving impaired. more people driving distracted, all lumped in together and have contributed to this uptick of fatalities in the bay area. >> the chp says slow down, plan ahead, wear your seat belt and be courteous to fellow drivers. state health officials are warning consumers against eating certain imported cucumbers linked to an outbreak of salmonella. they come in a box like this. they are imported from mexico. health officials say there is a likely source of the outbreak that made more than 280 people sick nationwide, including 51 in california. this strain of salmonella is particularly dangerous for the elderly, infants and people with weak immune systems. >> this morning pg&e will be venting natural gas on a transmission pipeline along 101 in south san francisco. residents in the area may hear the sound of the venting as well as smell of gas.

overnight lows mainly be in the 50s. cooler in the north bay valley like napa and santa rosa at 51. mild with upper 50s through palo alto and fremont and livermore. here is a look at the week ahead. you can prepare for the heat. in san jose our average high is 83. we are close to that coming up from yesterday's numbers. look how we climb up. sunday warmer. monday hot. tuesday and wednesday and not much relief in sight through the rest of the work week. we'll be ten degrees above average. beach weather tomorrow. labor day still warm. summer heat is on. maybe just a little bit of relief for everybody on thursday. plenty of sunshine. it's going to be dry and no relief from the heat at least in in seven-day forecast. >> but pretty nice.

teachers at a kindergarten center in new york are seeing double this school year because they have 11 sets of twins. educators say the number of look-alikes sets a record. a few years ago the school had seven sets of twins. administrators will split the twins into different classes to establish different friends and share those friends with tir twins. the goal is to treat each twin
