the lion is speaking publicly for the first time. dr. walter palmer says he intends to resume his practice as early as tomorrow. it's been closed since july after international outrage over the hunting of the lion. >> palmer says despite reports otherwise, he's not been in hiding. he's kept a low profile because of safety concerns for his family. reiterating an earlier written statement, he says he had no idea the lion he killed was a protected animal. a kayaker is recovering from a shark attack off southern california. dylan marks was kayaking along the malibu coast when he was bitten by a ten-foot hammerhead. his foot was dangling over the side of his kayak when the shark chomped down. >> it got scared. it thrashed around. i was in the way. i'm not shark-fishing anymore. i really respect them. it brought that to light. >> marks flagged down a fishing boat and was air-lifted to the hospital.

experts say a recent burst of incidents along the west coast is partly a result of warmer waters attracting hammerhead sharks. on the other coast now, a wild day at the beach of cape cod. a crowd tried to save a huge shark stranded on the sand. frantically pouring water on the great white. the shark was alive when it washed ashore. it died a short time later. a dangerous fugitive is back behind bars in indianapolis. a cheetah. it escaped from its exhibit at the zoo. prompting a code red at the entire facility. visitors were taken to safety zones. the cheetah never got beyond a barrier. he was shot with a tranquilizer dart and ran back into the exhibit. pounce had just arrived at the zoo. maybe he was homesick. wanted to head back to california. >> probably. a fireball bright enough to be seen in daylight streaked

amy hollyfield is one scene. amy? >> yes, here is the pole behind me. they still working on it. it will be here until mid-afternoon tackling this problem. this happened because of an accident at midnight. a car was exiting off speaker state 880 southbound in san leandro 238 exchange. the driver according to c.h.p. took it too fast and lost control. she ran and the pole. everyone inside the car is okay. it was a family of six, two adults and four kids. everyone had the seatbelt open and is all right. one child had a pre-existing medical condition and was taken to the hop. there was arcing on the scene but nothing major came out of that. it did knock out power. c.h.p. said it looked like 6,000 customers but we hear only a couple of customers have in power. it will be shut down
