>> good morning to you on this labor day. well look at the first issue at the coast, a beach hazard which means southwest facing beaches are going to have strong rip rip currents from the monterey bay through sunset today. from mount tamalpais looking at ocean beach which has a little bit of that to deal with. the reason you would go to the ocean water temperatures are in the mid-50s to mid-60s and the air temperatures are 10-16 degree above average in the mid-80s to upper 90s. this isn't even our hottest day this week. that is coming up in the seven-day forecast. cheryl? >> thank you. >> getting to the beep could be the cause of a little friction today, a request from los gatos before you hit the road. don't cut through town in an attempt to bypass beach traffic on highway 17. that is where our reporter joins us with what is being done about

the problem. >> it is hot. it is a holiday. that means southbound 17 to santa cruz is going to be a mess. but as ugly as this will get later today residents in los gatos say it is getting uglier in their neighbors. guess what? you are not the only one with the from idea to head to the beach in santa cruz on a holiday weekend. southbound traffic on highway 17 is notorious for backing up through los gatos, campbell and up to san jose. to avoid it people are cutting through los gatos trying to beat the backup. this video show as popular route from lark avenue north on santa cruz avenue through downtown and back on 17 but you are freaking out the locals. eight takes forever to get anywhere and i have to change where i am driving. so i am freaking out. get through santa cruz avenue main street intersection can take 20 minutes.

in response los gatos officials have put up signs telling shortcut-seeking drivers to head back to the highway. police are making sure that drivers are not blocking intersections and diverting traffic from normally quiet neighborhoods. after the summer, the city council will look at the traffic mit dangerous measures and see what works and what doesn't work because all it takes is a hot day on a wreck to get the blood boiling. >> everyone is us terroristed. the drivers are just following directions from their navigation system and they are just sitting there and it is a tense...moment for everyone. the business of the time on highway 17 and through town according to the locals is from 11 o'clock a.m. to 2:00 p.m. the best way to avoid traffic is start early or leave late. >> you are not the only one with the great idea on a holiday

weekend, southbound traffic on highway 17 is notorious for backing up in the summer months from los gatos and campbell and to san jose. people cutting through los gatos and we have a time-lapse video to show you a popular route from lark avenue. moving on, then, and well show you that video later, bart workers are rebuilding a section of track near the transbay tube, working on it since friday. they are on schedule. amy hollyfield will join us now talking to passengers who took the bus instead. amy? >> we are talking bart, cheryl, but buses are shuttling people across the bay from the transbay tube term mall in san francisco to the 19th bart station in oakland. it soup lick a hassle to be avoided but people are show up and they are using the buses.

low-to-mid 90 from redwood city to los altos and we will top out in the upper 70s around daly city and sunset and upper 80s in downtown south san francisco and sausalito at 68, and vallejo is at 87. upper 80s around berkeley and mid-80s in richmond and hercules and everyone else from oakland to fremont is in the low 90s and we will make the mid-to-upper 90s today and a few areas hit 100 inland and you will be stuck in the 100s through tomorrow and the weekend. art fair, my 80s today if you going to the belmont broke festival, mid-80s to upper 80s, and take the sunscreen. my seven-day forecast shows we will stay in the 80s at the coast at lost through wednesday, and 90s around the bay through thursday and 100s inland through friday and when we pull back the temperatures on saturday and sunday, we still warmer-than-average. the good news is not much of a breeze so the fire danger is not heightened, but, again, not much a breeze to keep you cool. back to you.
