he said everything she shared with us today he also reported to the detectives investigating michael tyree's death. inside the santa clara county main jail, armando galvin said he heard screams coming from a nearby inmate's cell the night before michael tyree died. >> saying i'm sorry, i'm sorry. please, please, i'm sorry. >> reporter: galvin says the screams and pleas were followed by silence. at the time, correctional deputies matthew farris, jereh lub bin, and rodriguez were doing rounds. he said when they got to his cell, they were acting differently and hardly searched. about an hour later lubrin returned. >> excuse my language, but he said does he usually [ bleep ] himself. then he went back to tyree's cell and was calling his name. he didn't respond.

went back to the phone on the desk, called it in. rafael rodriguez came in with the flash light. >> reporter: galvin says he could see lubrin pull tyree's body out of his cell. >> he started trying to revive him by pumping his chest. when he was doing that, body fluid was coming out of his mouth. >> reporter: tyree died of multiple blunt force injuries and bled to deainternally. >> he's harmless so i don't know why they would do that. >> reporter: while confusing, galvin said he's seen and heard deputies using excessive force before. >> no one ever said anything. >> reporter: until now. galvin says the other correctional deputies are trying to stay under the radar. >> it kind of feels like they're trying to keep us happy right now. >> reporter: i reached out to the swlf's office to see what, if any, reaction they had to my

the heat. it's a good indication of how hot it got in the north bay today. parents opting instead to find relief at the pool. myla drove from san francisco to the community center in san rafael. >> i don't know when i've been this hot lately. >> reporter: jake richmond did the same. >> either that or fill up the kiddie pool in the back yard. definitely dry with ac on. we don't have ac in our house because we almost never need it. >> reporter: on those hot days in the north bay, matthew tindle expects to work long hours maintaining or repairing air conditioning systems. >> people give us a call, give us a call sooner rather than later so we can help you. it's not 105 out yet, so when the sun starts cooking you'll see the energy going up higher and higher. >> reporter: this results in higher power bills.

pg&e reminded customers to sign up for its smart rate plan to save on their electric bills. >> hopefully everything is in good condition. let's find out rather than guess. >> reporter: north bay residents and companions can expect more days like this one. in marin county, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. the city of santa clara is about to become a no drone zone. banned drones within a half mile of public events including football games at levi stadium. the goal is to promote public safety and protect people. >> drones sometimes can run on battery life and fall out of the sky. they can injure someone. and from a public safety side, a terrorist attack, some can carry a payload and cause harm. >> violators can be arrested and criminally charged. a san francisco supervisor

says racist graffiti found will not be tolerated. the words no more chinese were spray painted on at least five locations across the neighborhood. today supervisor malia cohen had a message for the person or persons responsible. >> to the vandals that are out there, we are coming for you and we are going to get you. and to the neighbors and to the residents, pay attention. report any and everything that's suspicious to the police department so we can get these people. >> police are asking anyone with surveillance cameras to check their footage and see if it shows the culprits. a bill that would require police to report the race and gender of motorists they stop is now close to becoming a law in san francisco. >> reporter: good evening. there is one more vote on this bill next tuesday. but that's just a formality. and since it passed unanimously, well, that means it's

veto-proof. although the mayor has voiced his support for it. but what it means is that san francisco will become one of the most transparent cities in the country when it comes to law enforcement stops. >> this ordinance is passed unanimously as amended on the first reading. >> reporter: the legislation was introduced by supervisor malia cohen who wants to prevent unlawful stops by police. >> i want to know how many we have. and i also want to work with my colleagues to create legislation to prevent that from happening. >> african-american adults are seven times more likely than white adults to be arrested in san francisco. >> reporter: police in san francisco are already collecting data such as race and gender on traffic stops. but the original bill would have required officers to get that information from not only the driver but passengers in the car. the police chief objected to that. >> if we don't have reasonable

the ceo of united airlines is out of a job tonight accused of being connected to corruption charges. he related to an investigation that operates new york area airports. earlier this year the airline and some of the executives received subpoenas for information about the port authority. osc oscar oscar -- the popular messaging app recently rolled out a web-based version. it allows viewers to view all the messages they've sent and received on their personal computers. but a security firm claims a vulnerability in the software could lead to malicious code. verifying online purchases with a selfie.

first tech federal credit union in mountain view is the first financial institution in the u.s. to test the app that uses facial and fingerprinting recognition. 200 employees will kick off the pilot program. the goal of the technology is to improve credit card security online. apple's stock jumped nearly 3% today ahead of tomorrow's product launch. reports say apple will show off a new iphone 6. analysts expect an upgraded camera and more powerful processer. we're also expecting to see a new ipad and a refreshed apple tv set top device. we'll have full coverage of the unveiling right here on abc 7 news. so stay tuned. here's a question for you. would you buy a car you knew had been recalled and not yet fixed? it's been known to happen with tragic results. >> michael finn niey is here wi big news from a major used car seller.

>> consumer advocates have been fighting over this for decades now. autonation today announced it would not sell any repaired -- i should say any unrepaired new or used cars that are under recall. consumer groups have been pushing hard but so far unsuccessfully for a federal ban on these kinds of sales. you'll recall the story of rachel and jacqueline hawk, the girls from santa cruz died in a fiery crash while driving a rental car that was under a safety recall. gas prices in california have fallen 30 cents in the last month alone. some predict we could see prices below $2.50 a gallon. the california state auto association reports a current price of unleaded -- predicting prices in the mid-2 range by the end of this year. if you're among those who wish you had faster wireless connections, here's good news tonight. verizon is preparing to test out

couple of days with triple digit heat through friday. the heat eases over the weekend. if you have outdoor plans, hang in there. it will get better later on this week. high pressure bringing the heat wave through friday. this will be the hottest week we've seen in 2015. we are keeping our eye on a powerful hurricane just west/southwest of cabo san lucas. hurricane linda. it's a category 3. moisture from linda as it weakens is expected to move into southern california this upcoming weekend bringi ining t showers. for us, the moisture stays south of the bay area. but those high clouds could add a little more humidity for your upcoming weekend plans. tomorrow morning starting out with mid-50s to mid-60s. i know many homes in the bay area do not have air conditioning. you'll want to run a fan tonight to sleep well and if you live in the city or on the peninsula, san jose, and don't have the ac, obviously it might be a little bit tough to sleep.

a water main break in san francisco. we captured this video of two workers shortly after the leak was located in the glen park neighborhood. we are told the leak was in the eight inch main installed about 1973. no word yet on how much water was lost, but it did cause quite a puddle downhill. a san francisco supervisor wants subway tunnels running throughout san francisco. today scott weiner introduced legislation that would set up a subway master plan. forces the city to always have a

subway system under construction continuing the work of the current project, the central subway. weiner believes it will be a necessary with the booming population and ongoing traffic problems in the city. the plan does not outline how it would be paid for. for the second day in a row, the bay area was rattled by a small earthquake. a 2.6 magnitude quake hit near nevada at 8:30 this morning. that's not far from where a quake hit yesterday morning. no injuries or damage from either quake have been reported. a new study exposed why a toxic mercury is working its way into our shorelines. researchers found sea lions, seal, and other mammals are bringing mercury from the deep ocean. it happens when human pollution is absorbed. it gets into the food mammals eat. they bring it to show where it's excreted from their fur and
