we do say good morning to you. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm reena ninan. we'll get right to it, the top story. it was a very scary accident in las vegas. a british airways plane was traveling to london. it was aborted in takeoff when one of its engines caught fire. >> yeah. very scary and tense moments, indeed. the crew's quick thinking appears to have saved the day. >> reporter: flight 2276 roaring down the runway at 90 miles an lawyer. starting its long trip to london when passengers heard a big thud and saw flames from under the wing. the crew aborting the takeoff. >> mayday, mayday, request fire services. >> heavy fire services are on the way. >> reporter: eyewitnesss say those vehicles arrived within two minutes. the 777's doors flew open and the evacuation slides deployed although thick smoke poured into one of the doors. all 159 passengers and crew members headed for the exits

earliest. united airlines is under new leadership this morning. the ceo quit in the middle of a corruption investigation. the company's former boss and two other senior officials stepped down yesterday. the airline is being investigated over whether it gave preferential treatment to the former chairman of the agency that operates the airports in new york city. a new ceo has already been named. the city of baltimore has reached a tentative settlement with the parents of freddie gray, the young black man whose death sparked riots and a national outcry when his spine was nearly severed after arrest. if the deal is approved, the family will get $6.4 million. the mayor says the settlement should not be interpreted as a judgment on the six baltimore police officers facing criminal charges in the death. new details in the case against the south carolina police officer charged with murder for shooting walter scott in the back as he ran away. attorneys for former officer michael slager say they have new

evidence that could get him released on bond. they say there was a scuffle before the shooting was videotaped, and they an used scott of grabbing slager's taser. a hearing set for tomorrow. the woman who survived an on air shooting that killed two tv journalists is back home this morning. vicki gardner is being -- was being interviewed when the attack took place. she realized a statement on facebook saying she is strong and optimistic and says she has no thoughts of why me. gardner also wants to unite her community after the tragedy. two former little conjoined twins are said to be in stable condition the a hospital in columbus, ohio. the 11-month-old sisters and their mother are born from ugrand a. they were separate ed during 16 hours of surgery last week. as they recover, each of them should be able to walk. >> we're very pleased they have every opportunity now to achieve a normal life. >> here's something you don't hear about often. surgeons used a 3-d printer to

presidential candidate mike huckabee and the conservative liberty council were set to ramp up the fight and hold a rally for davis. the rowan county clerk spent six days in jail on contempt charges for her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples because an of her religious beliefs. >> the courage of her convictions was more important than her freedom. >> reporter: her showdown with gay couples trying to wed sparked another national debate. rallies in the street supporting her, protests at the home of the judge who held her in contempt. davis' attorneys demanded that judge beshear act to free the fellow democrat. but the governor said it was up to the court. while a judge decided since davis' deputy clerks are now issuing the licenses the court is now satisfied the county clerk's office is fulfilling its legal obligation. kim davis says her fight continues. she does not want her name on those marriage licenses. the judge said if she interferes with the issuing of licenses, she could be thrown right back into jail.

kenneth moton, abc news, washington. >> our thanks to kenneth in washington. president obama has secured enough votes to avoid an embarrassing veto on the iran nuclear deal. as congress returned from summer recess, four more democrats announced their support for the agreement blocking republicans from passing a resolution disapproving the accord. donald trump and ted cruz will attend a rally on capitol hill today organized by the tea party to oppose the iran deal. as the refugee crisis gets worse by the day, australia says it will launch air strikes against islamic state target in syria. in hungary, more chaos at the border as refugees broke through police lines for a second time this week. the u.n. now saying that country is facing more than 40,000 asylum seekers in the next ten days and they're also overwhelmed in greece. dan harris is there. >> reporter: these refugees finished a perilous leg on their journey to freedom. packing these rickety boats from

turkey, and arriving here on the greek island of lesbos. this is just an incredible scene. these people, families, have just risked their lives. everything they own, everybody they love, to cross this narrow strait here to arrive in greece. the initial elation evaporating quickly for these new arrivals when they realize that they're now facing a 30-mile walk and then, most likely a stay in a squalid camp, like this one, where we met this mom, named farwan. hoping to get her son to germany for medical help. for days, thousands of refugees have been stranded on this island. waiting to move on to mainland greece and up through to germany. late monday night, officials set up this emergency 24-hour processing center to decongest the island. and watch as that mom we met earlier, farwan, finally gets her papers to leave. moments later, though, as refugees clamored to board a

boat -- it's entirely possible somebody could get crushed -- a reminder that this arduous journey is far from over. the port is still crowded but much less chaotic. the obama administration says it is actively looking at new ways to respond to this crisis including possibly bringing thousands more of these refugees to america. dan harris, abc news, on the greek island of lesbos. >> some incredible images over there in europe. back here at home, a frighteningly close call for passengers on a jet taking off from las vegas. the british airways 777 left engine caught fire forcing an abort the takeoff. the passengers and crew members aboard the flight evacuated using emergency slides. several suffered injuries during their escape. some flights were delayed because you have that accident. and a dramatic rescue caught on camera off galveston, texas,

after two men slammed their boat into a pile of rocks. they were hoisted up into a coast guard helicopter after getting thrown from the boat. they suffered broken bones but are expected to recover. a wild scene at a car dealership in pennsylvania. a truck carrying milk went out of control. the tractor-trailer struck several new vehicles before coming to a stop when it crashed into the building, the dealership's general manager says he got a call about the incident and was told 25 vehicles had been destroyed. >> wow. >> i was in awe. honestly, i wasn't sure if they were serious. then they started sending me photos and videos to my phone and realized it was a major accident. >> unbelievable. no one was injured thankfully. driver of the truck says he actually lost control after taking a drink of soda. and it went down the wrong pipe. he says he was choking and that caused him to crash. it's the little things that can set you up. look at the destruction left behind. >> oh, man. incredible.

luckily nobody was injured there. so it's happened again. another kid getting into one those arcade claw machines. >> this time it was in texas. a 6-year-old named juliet grimes, she crawled up the chute where the prizes fall out. it's funny. juliet said her big sister urged her to do it. juliet, i believe it, but the girl's mama is not thrilled about this one. >> in her world, there are no challenges. if there's a boundary, they're meant for other kids, not for her. for us anything and everything is a challenge. >> did you have siblings? are you the youngest? >> i'm the youngest of seven. i never did anything -- >> i'm the oldest. did i it all the time. to this day i do it. you tell the younger kid to do something and they do it. i see it with my own children.

we do say good morning to you. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm reena ninan. we'll get right to it, the top story. it was a very scary accident in las vegas. a british airways plane was traveling to london. it was aborted in takeoff when one of its engines caught fire. >> yeah. very scary and tense moments, indeed. the crew's quick thinking appears to have saved the day. >> reporter: flight 2276 roaring down the runway at 90 miles an lawyer. starting its long trip to london when passengers heard a big thud and saw flames from under the wing. the crew aborting the takeoff. >> mayday, mayday, request fire services. >> heavy fire services are on the way. >> reporter: eyewitnesss say those vehicles arrived within two minutes.

the 777's doors flew open and the evacuation slides deployed although thick smoke poured into one of the doors. all 159 passengers and crew members headed for the exits including dominick worthington. >> everyone realizes there's a problem. we can see smoke on both sides of the plane. we were evacuated. so it was crazy. >> reporter: passengers and flight attendants ran away from the burning plane. more than a dozen people were taken to the hospital, most injured as they went down the slides. the emergency shutting down part of the airport. >> attention all aircraft, inbound on 7 right, emergency. sounds like a fire. aircraft on fire. so you can expect possibility of a go-around. >> reporter: and flights at other western airports were delayed, as well. buses brought passengers not

whether she would defy the courts again. davis will not return to the office until friday at the earliest. united airlines is under new leadership this morning. the ceo quit in the middle of a corruption investigation. the company's former boss and two other senior officials stepped down yesterday. the airline is being investigated over whether it gave preferential treatment to the former chairman of the agency that operates the airports in new york city. a new ceo has already been named. the city of baltimore has reached a tentative settlement with the parents of freddie gray, the young black man whose death sparked riots and a national outcry when his spine was nearly severed after arrest. if the deal is approved, the family will get $6.4 million. the mayor says the settlement should not be interpreted as a judgment on the six baltimore police officers facing criminal charges in the death. new details in the case against the south carolina police officer charged with murder for shooting walter scott in the back as he ran away. attorneys for former officer michael slager say they have new

evidence that could get him released on bond. they say there was a scuffle before the shooting was videotaped, and they an used scott of grabbing slager's taser. a hearing set for tomorrow. the woman who survived an on air shooting that killed two tv journalists is back home this morning. vicki gardner was being interviewed when the attack took place. she realized a statement on facebook saying she is strong and optimistic and says she has no thoughts of why me. gardner also wants to unite her community after the tragedy. two former little conjoined twins are said to be in stable condition the a hospital in columbus, ohio. the 11-month-old sisters and their mother are born from uganda. they were born joined at the hip and were separated during 16 hours of surgery last week. as they recover, each of them should be able to walk. >> we're very pleased they have every opportunity now to achieve a normal life. >> here's something you don't hear about often. surgeons used a 3-d printer to map out the operation before it

took place. the girls are still in the intensive care unit. after they recover, they face some less complicated operations. parents are scrambling in seattle this morning after teachers announced they'll strike on the first day of school. last minute contract negotiations broke down over pay and other issues, as well. teachers will be on the picket lines instead of the classrooms. 43,000 students attend classes in the seattle district. the help wanted sign is out at chipotle. the first-ever national career day at the chain. the goal is to hire 4,000 new employees. managers at every chipotle location will be interviewing up to 60 applicants this morning. the company says over the last year, more than 10,000 hourly employees were promoted to management roles. no word on what type of discount you get when you eat at chipotle. >> there's a future in case this doesn't work out for us. so before the williams
