upgrade and probably the biggest upgrade at the event. it will come with a redesigned remote that will be touch screen an apple tv came with a long-awaited gaming component. tim cook set the stage on schedule to start off with the big announcement an hour ago. >> we could not be more excited to be here this morning. we're so glad that so many people from all over the world could join us including many of our employees. >> the next generation apple watch was the first item to be unveiled. it already has 10,000 apps available, but now there are more features including how to locate transit resources on maps, facebook messenger, i translate, go pro and airstrip which promises to revolution nice communication within the health care system. next they unveiled the ipad pro. it debuted with the biggest screen ever that the company has built, 12.9 inch screen to be

cool us off. temperatures are still climbing. how about a live look from our lake tahoe camera. temperatures won't be cool here, in the sierra, of course, no snow to speak of and everything is so dry. people can expect it to hit about 85 degrees there. the lake, if you can get on the lake, that's the place to be. we've got live team coverage of how the heat is impacting us all starting with mike nicco up on the roof. >> walnut creek one of the areas that could possibly have poor air quality. good news, everybody running green right now, so the poor air quality has not developed. the heat advisory goes all the way to the ocean today and tomorrow. it just started. so we're just now getting into the most dangerous part of the day, risk of heat related illnesses through at least 7:00. if you're heading to the beaches, the southwest facing beaches, strong rip currents places like symptom, twin lakes and the santa cruz boardwalk.

another area that could have poor air quality in the santa clara valley. we'll talk about how that's going to end this weekend and the cooling trend coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. the scorching weather is too much to bear for thousands of students in the south bay. one school district is cutting classes short today and tomorrow in an unusual move. abc 7 news reporter matt keller joins us from delmar high school in san jose. >> reporter: students at delmar high school are about an hour away from their normal bell, two hours earlier than normal. this unusual measure comes because of this extreme heat. the morning drop off is a matter of routine. parents say good-bye, kids head off to class. today it's unusually hot. temperatures forecasted for the upper 90s, low 100s, about 20 degrees above average, so classes are ending early. >> some of the schools have some

rooms with air conditioning, some schools do not have air conditioning. we are concerned about that. so in order to have a consistent plan, we needed to give a minimum day to all the schools in the district. >> the classes are way too hot. you just want to leave home. it's not cool. >> reporter: the seven schools, branham, delmar, lee, prospect, westmont boynton and the camden community kay school are on minimum days today and tomorrow. practices for football, field hockey, tennis and other sports teams are being canceled or moved indoors. the message, if it's too hot to be in class, it's too hot to be outside practicing. >> i was just waiting to get home so i could either go to the pool or take a shower. it was just way too shot. district officials say they're looking to put air conditioning in all the classrooms all across the district. of course, they need the money to pay for it. they're hoping the have a bond measure on the pallet by next

wounds. his relationship to the children is not clear at this time. the victim's ideas have not been released. oakland police are asking for help in finding a man missing since saturday. 75-year-old leonardo zamora walked away from his home saturday afternoon. he suffers from dementia and alzheimer's. the woman who authorities say zwrum pd off the bay bridge rather than being arrested after a dui collision, 25-year-old sanchez of richmond was arrested monday. earlier they saw sanchez edwards walking away on the bay bridge. he got away after jumping 75 feet to the water below. it's believed she swam to shore and was picked up by a dump truck driver. she's facing several charges including driving under the influence, hit-and-run and resisting arrest.

one person arrested in carbon monoxide with several suspicious fires in san jose. one broke out on south winchester and moore park around 10:30. two others followed in the same point. at one point a burning tree looked as if it would jump to a nearby structure. crews managed to knock it down before i could cause any damage. >> this is the five-year anniversary of the deadly pge gas explosion. sit tiff officials and residents are marking their recovery and highlighting the work that remains. >> reporter: some residents say as they look out over the san bruno neighborhood, they still see empty lots where houses one stood. they wonder what's taking so long. the mayor points out a lot of the work that's done is infrastructure under ground so you can't see it. he say it is hard part of the rebuilding effort is behind them. >> but i think we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

>> the mayor of san bruno says the city has come a long way five years after the pipeline explosion that killed eight people and leveled 35 homes. he held a press conference for an update, reporting that 22 homes have been built. ten more are under construction. four other lots are slated to become a park. one resident we met who still lives next to an empty lot says he's not impressed. >> not enough, not fast enough. you'll see, after five years we still have disaster here, two disaster here. >> some people are frustrated, as the city is fruft streeted because it's taking so long. people have to realize it's not 38 lots let's rebuild. we have to completely rebuild the infrastructure. >> reporter: the mayor points out a huge part of recovery of forts has been fighting for accountability by pg and e. he says the fight for transparency continues. pointed out that pge filed a

new pictures this morning reveal the extent of a damage to a british airways jet that caught fire in las vegas. part of the plan literally melted off. it burst into flames on the tarmac right before takeoff with more than 170 people on board. thankfully, despite the seriously from looking at the

pictures, there were no serious injuries. this morning a team of investigators with the national transportation safety board are there trying to figure out the cause. flight 2276 was leaving vegas for london. >> i was one of the first people off, jumped on the slide and looked up and the flames seemed to be about twice the height of the aircraft. >> according to experts, a mechanical failure could have caused the engine to explode. more bay area drivers are cheating in car pool lanes than ever before. according to the santa cruz sentinel, 41% on santa clara county expressways cheat on the diamond lanes. that's based on 28 locations monitored by the county. that's more than double five years ago. caltran says the cheating rate in redwood city is more than 30%. the chp is on track to issue more than 22,000 car pool

let's head back outside and take a look at the weather with mike nicco. >> reporter: hello from atop the abc 7 broadcast center where it's pretty warm out here. already 84 in san francisco. let's take a look at what happened yesterday to take a look at where we're going as the pattern will be just the same. san rafael -- it was in the norkt bay, look at pet lumina and novato. 50 degrees. then we warmed to 99. nearly a 50-degree jump. even oakland and san francisco saw tremendous spread yesterday, 30 degrees from the morning lows to the afternoon highs.

onshore. look at the left side of your screen, look at the marine layer starting to develop. that's why i think the coast will be cooler than yesterday while the rest of us just as hot if not hotter. gilroy, 106, record high today. possible record in mountain view. los altos, 99, millbrae, 95. half moon bay, pacific 88. south san francisco and sausalito, low to mid 90s. 95 in san rafael close to a record high. fremont 98, castro valley at 99. you come to inland east bay, everybody well over 100. livermore has to get to 109 to tie a record 106 today. going to the game, 84 degrees at 7:05 at o.co. a quick look at to noit's temperatures, 50s in the valleys of the north. the rest of us in the 60s. my accuweather seven-day forecast, still hot thursday and friday with cooling reaching the

coast. spare the air probably through friday. the heat eases saturday and sunday but the humidity will tick up as the remnants of the hurricane near baja start to push some clouds our way. we'll get rid of that humidity. temperatures drop to 60s around the coast, 80s inland. still a couple days to go. be careful. breaking news right now in san francisco. sky 7 hd live outside twitter headquarters on market street. you can see the bomb squad vehicle right there. police have shut down market between 8th and 9th. that truck there is investigating what's going on. >> police have shut down the block surrounding the twitter building. we're understanding they may be investigating a suspicious package there. our pilot in sky 7 hd says it looks like a backpack. you can just through the leaves of the tree. that area has a lot of design center, furniture shops, et cetera. that could be affecting traffic in the area. market street shut down between 8th and 9th.
