>> yes, it isa beautiful ride, kristen but it is expensive. new they are looking at cutting back. they are talking about having only one round trip out of tiburon to san francisco a day, which is a significant cut taking them from the seven round trip they now have each day. bad news for commuters who rely on this ride. unless the golden gate bridge district decides to take over the route. the district will be discussing that at the meeting today. this is a first step. they are going to look at what it involves and if it is something to pursue. 1225,000 passengers ride the ferry each year. it is a small ride. it is 20 minutes. it make a big difference in their lives and it will come up today and they discuss it. thanks, amy. new details on a hostage situation that lasted late into the night near los angeles.

deputies have confirmed they shot and killed an armed suspect holding at least four people inside a restaurant. the video shows a swat team rubbing inside before the shooting. no one else was injured. doctorly before that, diners rushed out of the restaurant with hands in the air. they told authorities the suspect said he did not want to hurt them. this started hours earlier with the suspect leading police on a high speed chase in a stolen car. he crashed. he carjacked another woman, c.h.p. officers tried to stop him but he bailed, fired shots in the air and ran inside the restaurant. >> a bizarre end to police chase in san francisco and a man is in custody. on the 4th street bridge near at&t park when officers negotiated with a makist hide under a pier. c.h.p. officers tried to pull him over for riding on the shoulder of interstate 280. the map hit a car and ran from the scene and jumped into the bay. he ended on the pier.

police broke the boards on the pier to get him out. >> a top story here and around nation, the 14th anniversary of the most deadly attack on american soil with several events in the united states and the bay area will remember what happened on 9/11 of 2001. people are gathering at the national 9/11 memorial in new york city, where the names of those lost will be read this morning. nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks on the world trade center with the pentagon and the united airlines flight 93 that crashed in sworn pennsylvania. >> lanterns shined in shanksville, pennsylvania for honor crew and passengers of flight 93 headed from new jersey to san francisco. a group of passengers led by bay area residents stormed the cockpit surprise the hijackers momented before the crash. it is believed they wanted to fly the jet and the united states capitol.

caltran to stop a string of fires that keep breaking out in a homeless encampment. one of the fires broke out last night on a dry hillside above 101 and hospital curve. caltrain owns the land. neighbors believe that city officials are driving more homeless people their bay. >> everyone here is happening it off to the other one. the homeless situation is big. removing them and taking their stuff away does not solve the problem. >> a man keeps a guard were hose on his deck to fight off the flames. >> portrero hill residents have counted nine similar fires in the last two years. >> the heat is rising in california and wildfires continue to be a problem. more than a dozen fires are burning across the state. one fire has destroyed six structures. it has jumped to 14,000 acres. it is only 10 percent contained. >> a fire burning east of fresno
