but it's the westerly winds bringing in the cooler air. relative humidity will be up. it will feel a little muggier. we will talk about your neighborhood and look at the seven-day outlook, which will look for fall-like in a few minutes. tiffany. >> thank you, lisa. a state of emergency in the foothills. governor brown delivering a the beauty fire. it's nearly grown to 65,000 acres. we have new information on this fast-moving fire. >> the beauty fire is burning in calaveris and amador counties south of sacramento. it is burning in all directions. >> a helicopter dumps water on flames advancing on a home, entire hillsides are burning and

people are in a panic. >> i'm upset. we will lose earning we own. >> we've been here 28 years. >> the local is family evacuated the bay area. the return to the burn area only to be turned around again. >> my son got any mom's house and we came back up to try to get some more personal belongings, and now they have evacuated avery. so we don't know what's going to happen at this point. >> convoys of livestock trailers continue to stream out of the communities surrounding the fire, and fire crews from around the state continue to come in to help, including this team from the san francisco fire department. the good news? winds aren't a factor right now. desert dry conditions have create plenty of parched forest area. >> the fuels are ripe and ready to burn. we are pretty helpless as humors with condition like this. >> 3,000 have been evacuated so far because of the butte fire.

abc7 news. >> there's a fire burning east of fresno continues to grow. mandatory evacuation orders are in effect in grant grove, sequoia national park in dunlap county. the fire start the july 31st and has burned more than 172 square miles. in develop news at least one person is believed dead in hayward from a shooting overnight. officers arrived on shepherd avenue to find a person near the car suffering from at least one gunshot wounds. authorities are trying to uncover a meet and find a suspect. another shooting overnight in oakland has left one person dead. shots broke out at 10:00 around 80 avenue and international boulevard. whatever happened was intense. 40 bullet cases littered the scenes when officers arrived. again, no suspect is in custody, but an investigation underway. another unsolved murder marks its fifth anniversary today.

35-year-old was shot and killed on his birthday in 2010 during a robbery in berkeley. his fiancee, who was with him when he died, put up posters and put out flyers trying to keep his memory alive. a $20,000 reward is offered for any information lead to go the arrest and conviction of the person or perps responsible for his death. new allegations this morning of inmate mistreatment at the santa clara county jail. inmates say officers are making threats, trying to get them to keep quiet about the beating death of a mentally ill man. a criminal investigation is underway to find out if any of the allegations are true and who should be held responsible. abc7 news reporter janet has the details. >> detectives and interim affairs are taking a close look at allegations that deputies are threatening inmates who say they witnessed the beating death of another inmate, 31-year-old

michael tyree. the bay area news group reports the cellblock where tyree died last night. >> you can't discount these people's stories. there's too many of them. >> robert powell is representing ruben garcia, who is one of the inmates who said he saw three correctional officers assault tyree. he said he i am had elf has been a victim. they banged his jaw in july. >> they were beating him and they said if you want to stop, you have to say "i am a [bleep]." >> they said it's time to weed out the bad apples. problems at the jail somewhere been ongoing quite some time but it took the death of an inmate to spark public outrage and for the sheriff to take action. the sheriff vowed to investigate each complaint. >> i think part of it probably is better training. >> christine has been a criminal defense attorney for dozens of

mentally ill inmates the last several decades. >> part of it is they think they are crazy. we don't believe crazy people. >> finally their stories are being heard. abc7 news. >> the construction company working on the valley medical center expansion is expected to be fired from the project. the gates to the facility in san jose were locked yesterday. santa clara county officials suspended turner construction's contract when workers show up mon they will be turned away. the $300,000 facility was supposed to open next week but it's about three years behind schedule. >> they are suspended from the project and they will be suspended tuesday. we will look for a new contract. we expect we will be definitive about the delivery date of the building. >> turner construction said this delivered a revised project guideline yesterday afternoon

but the county still announced the suspension shortly afterwards. >> the chp recovered a stolen race car last night. it was found inside a storage yard near the railroad tracks in east oakland. mike chadwick said his truck with the prize-winning car and trailer in the back was park in front of his home in san raw nobodia tuesday when someone stole it. the victim believes when he took the car out racing the other day, that he actually was being watched, followed home, and that when this he stole his trailer they knew exactly what was inside the trailer. >> officers found the pickup truck that was towing it just a few blocks away this morning. police are still looking for the car thief. this morning the bay area will host an exercise that's been going on every year for nearly a decade. urban shields includes a series of training exercise force first responders and police on how to handle a terrorist or other large scale incident. but the event is also drawing

the attention of protesters. a about. c7 news reporter laura anthony has the story from oakland. >> stop, stop! >> with drums and chants, these demonstrators in oakland have their opposition to the annual arrival of urban shield to the bay area. in its ninth year, urban shield draws police agencies and first responders from the bay area, but also from as far away as korea. >> here we have tactical bags that don't appear tickty cal to give away to officers. >> and venders from all over the country. >> they pull it over and have access to their firearm. they open it all the way, show it to law enforcement and they have protection on top and bottom. >> this year's event includes training in more than two dozen real lifesen naresios from warehouse toss school campuses and this year exercise in how to

are public figures. we are expected to maintain a decorum. >> the police chief greg suhr does not see decorum in the cell phone video someone secretly took and posted on instagram. two of his officers are chatting in an office shop about body cams, talking graphically about what they want the cameras to show and not to show during an officer-involved shooting. >> what it looked like [bleep]. the video of the guy opening the gun still while [bleep]. and still pointing at you. >> in the second clip the two talk about the body cam recording, what might happen when the gunman is shot. "and then -- and pile on to a wall, yeah. that's great. ". >> the chief has order an investigation. this is not the kind of graphic conversations officers should be having, let alone in a public place.

[cheers and applause] >> hundreds of people lined the parade route on capital mound. some even standing on downtown rooftop buildings, all to catch the glimpse of a sacramento hometown hero. >> we are just excited to be here to celebrate what is good about america and these young boys. >> patriotism was on display to proudly receive the three men who helped thwart a paris attack on a paris-browned train last month. >> it's proud to have these people from our area to do something so mig any of sent and it's a worldly thing, it's wonderful. >> this mom and daughter duo came with their homemade signs. it says welcome home and we are grateful to them doing what they did and they made america proud. ♪ >> the parade featured local marching bands and military personnel. the final float had the three

treated like rock stars out here. an overwhelming experience for the friends and now heroes. abc7 news. 5:20 right now. taking a look at the weather. a little bit cooler this morning, i noticed >> yeah. you can certainly breathe a sigh of relief. the marine lay layer is back from 1,000 to 1200 feet deep. look at doppler hd, you see the high clouds and the green off the screen. the sun sets at 7:22 so with the longer nights we have been cooling off at night but it would be nice to get back to normal around here. and that is what is going to happen bit by bit beginning today. so with the high clouds over the area, we around going to have full sunshine. in fact, this is going to play into our forecast with the few sprinkles possibly around the area, maybe late tonight into sunday, and it should trigger some thunderstorms in the sierra nevada. and also along the coast in the mountains. so definitely making up for an

interesting next 24 to 48 hours. so that is the remnants of hurricane linda. tropical storm linda. it will bring more humidity and the cloud cover to the bay area over the weekend. you notice the partly sunny conditions around not only san francisco, but all along the coast and it's been that way in southern california the past couple of case. as we do a temperature check, you will notice that we are pretty comfortable. in fact cool at san francisco, 56. 57 in half moon bay with 62 in mountain view, 60 san jose. and the clouds here from our roof camera that. marine layer will be disrupted and we will see partly sunny conditions today but look at all the 50s. with he haven't seen that in a while. good morning, napa, 56 for you. 52 by the delta. 64 still mild in concord. so 24 hours ago we were warmer. we were anywhere from 5 to 7 degrees warmer. mountain view, san jose and livermore. just maybe a few degrees warmer up in the north bay. but later on it translates into a cooler afternoon for everyone. here is sfo with the cloud deck.

so fog and high clouds this morning, not as hot, but we will have slightly more humid conditions this weekend. and look at a slight chance of showers coming into play tomorrow and into monday and another chance into next week many so it's all about the huge high that finally is giving way, slide to go the east. it's in response to this upper level system offshore. and as it moves away, we are looking at the cloud cover. then another deeper area of low pressure dropping out of the gulf alaska into next week, further enhancing our cooling and maybe even giving us a few more sprinkles. 85 in san jose. 83 redwood city. look for 60s at the coast. notice we will have the cloud cover with about 70 downtown. newspaper the north bay low 80s for petaluma and the warmer numbers still up to the north but we will look for certainly feeling better up in calistoga at 87. 79 in san leandro. union city at 81 degrees. fremont 83. you head inland, we have some of the 90s. but they are going to be more

like lower 90s from pittsburgh, upper 80s pleasanton. brentwood 83 degrees and the accuweather seven day forecast. the cooling trend underway over the weekend with more humid conditions and the possible drops maybe tomorrow into monday and then the next system really brings the relative humidity down. and another chance of showers, mainly in the north bay, by next thursday. that, of course, could change as things are, you know, harder to determine so far out. but at least we are going to the right direction. >> absolutely. nice to see the triple digit temperatures off the forecast. >> yes >> thank you. authorities intensify the crackdown on those who are trying to profit from the pope's

the mysterious substance that showed up along the san leandro coast. they determined it was not petroleum based but something more similar to vegetable oil. but scientists still can't determine exactly where it came from. the substance was thick and sticky, and that made it very difficult to remove from bird feathers. a glitch in google maps drastically changed the look of the southern california coastline. streets and highways under water. in malibu you can see the pacific coast highway water logged. the mountain view company said it wasn't a political statement about rising sea levels, instead they said it was a technical problem with its mapping problem and it's now mixed. 5:27 right now. still ahead in our next half-hour, anxiety on arizona's highways after a string of freeway shootings. what authorize revealed overnight about who may be responsible. and courage under fire. you will see how two officers

7 day outlook. tiffany. >> thank you. a possible break in the case that's been terrorizing phoenix residents. 11 shootings in 12 days all along an 8-mile stretch of highway. this morning a man taken into custody. he's been booked into jail on unrelated charges. police say there's indications that there's more than one gunmen. one set of shootings involved bullets fired at vehicles, and another involved projectiles like bbs and one shooting was road rage. we have the latest. >> investigators questioning a person of interest in those freeway shootings. authorities telling abc news it was a mother and son taken into custody in a dramatic scene just two miles from i-10, the site of 8 of the 11 shootings. >> all we could see was cops coming in, cops right there. >> witnesses telling us several police cars surrounded a white tahoe but this truck was one of them. police say there are several undercover officers involved in

the situation. the white tahoe driven away from the scene by a troop abouter. >> the mother quickly released. >> this community under siege for almost two weeks. even with round the clock patrols, people taking alternate routes and school bus drivers under orders to avoid highways. a former fbi officers saying the shooter probably lives nearby. >> the reason they are doing these is power. it's a power grab and control over others because they feel powerless in their life. >> police still telling people not to let their guard down. make sure you are doing your best to keep vigilant. >> that motor and son being taken into custody right here at this gas station. there is still caution tape. the clerk inside saying the man being questioned is a regular here and right behind the shopping center witnesses say place were staging their scene for three hours before they moved in. abc news, phoenix, arizona. >> police body cams capture a dramatic rescue in texas.

flash floods had trapped a man and his grandson inside his car and the water was rising. >> can't get out! it's in! >> officers spotted the car. they took off their radios and waded in, body cams rolling the entire time. strong arms pulled the man from the car, as well as his grand son. driver said he didn't realize the water was so deep. authorities say drivers need to remember turn around, don't drown. and not to take chances when they don't need to. police in new york with heavily surveillance foot am that shows the takedown of former tennis star blake. he was minding his own business when a plain clothed police officers races in and wrestles him to the ground. theoser apparently mistook him for an identity theft suspect who the police commissioner said could have been blake's twin.

entire kitchen from ikea and they ran into trouble right away. michael finney stepped in to help and he shows us how it turned out. >> this, amazingly, is the entire kitchen. >> the last time we saw her, her kitchen was in this pile on the floor. >> it's hard to believe that it will be a kitchen. >> she and her husband got it from ikea, so you know what that means. with ikea it's like, you know, it's assemble. >> but before they even started, a catch. >> i got like 90% of the kitchen and then there's this other 10%. >> key piece were missing, and impossible to get. >> to build ikea, you have to have the hole. you can just have some of the parts. >> she contacted "7 on your side." we got ikea to dig up those missing pieces and now their kitchen was a done deal, right? >> obviously we have a lot of work to do. >> actually, getting the parts was just the beginning. >> the next step -- >> she works on matching the

of that relieve that many people have been hoping for. >> it was a really extensive, you know, heat wave. a week. we don't see that. so it's really taking some time. and today we get into more of a cooling trend. but, yes, it has been gradual. so cool back a little bit yesterday. san francisco was in the upper 60s. but tell that to everyone else around the bay, right? it was still very, very hot. this morning waking up to some high clouds and live doppler 7hd showing some moisture offshore. this is what was hurricane linda. we were tracking this a week ago. it was a minimal hurricane, and now the remnants of it will bring in some moisture mainly to central and southern california throughout next week. but we have a chance of a few sprinkles from the system, and then there's another system that will also flirt with the bay area into the middle of next week. some more clouds, more humidity over the weekend from this system. and if you are heading south, say monterey, a better chance of

showers there. a look outside with those west winds up to about 12 miles per hour. you can see the flag right there. so it feels pretty good from san jose at 06. 61 morgan hill. half moon bay 57. 59 oakland and 56 in san francisco. so all those numbers down from yesterday at this time and the exploratorium camera with our 1200-foot marine layer. southwest wind up to 22 miles per hour. it's 63 in livermore, 64 in concord, and you will see temperatures in the low 90s today. much better than yesterday. but you will be in the 80s pretty soon. so our 24 hour temperature change shows most neighborhoods anywhere from a degree to 7 degrees cooler. and livermore, san jose and a couple degrees up here in the north bay. still pretty good creeping weather. sfo the low overcast fog and high clouds this morning. not so hot, but humid for weekend. we can take that, right? knot a bad trada. and a slight chance of showers coming our way.

maybe a few sprinkles along the peninsula. i had some coming in this morning. and right on through monday we run that chance. but this is not the system that could bring us another chance of rain. that's come down from the gulf of alaska. so this is what we are concentrating on now for weekend. the best chance, high pressure. this is what brought all the heat. this is what is nudging it to the east. the area of low pressure. but it's going to interact with the subtropical moisture and bring the threat of anywhere from trace amounts to about a quarter inch through southern california. and lightning is a possibility, as well. so got a lot going on around the state but we will look for the cloud cover to cool most of us off today. but 99 hazy in yosemite and also sacramento 97 degrees. let's take a look at san jose quickly. you will notice today with mid-80s. it's feeling pretty good with the relief, and 70s on tap through the middle of next week. around the bay today 87 in concord. that's a switch. how about 91 in livermore. 75 for you today up in richmond
