for smartphones, tablets and apple watch. i. the butte fire has destroyed homes including those working to put the fire out. we talked to the men and women who are willingly putting others' needs above their own. >> reporter: a dozen volunteer firefighters lost their homes in the butte fire issue this is one of them. >> grandkids' trucks. >> reporter: how to pick up the pieces after defendant a life-changing blow. a struggle to hold back the tears, knowing everything is gone. now it's about remembering what was where. she is a volunteer firefighter with, she lost her home on september 11th. the home she shared with her husband for the past 17 years. she was seven miles away, fighting the flames when its happened. >> i was probably off over by

jesus maria road. we were watching and defending and trying to save multiple friends' neighbors homes. >> firefighters were so busy battling the fire there was no stopping the blaze. 11 volunteers have lost their own homes. >> it's -- the amazing thing even my volunteers, even once they learned they lost their homings the firefight wasn't over, and they didn't stop. they were still out there, trying to protect other people who hadn't lost their homes yet. >> reporter: athartbreaking to see this, there's hope in rebuilding and comfort knowing the commune is grateful for everything that firefighters have done. >> can't thank them enough for the service. they saved my mom's home. lots of my neighborhood homes. >> made a difference. lost 0 lot of homes, we saved a lot, too. >> reporter: a push is underway to help the volunteer firefighters who lost their homes. >> looking for any house we can

get. >> reporter: there's hope and prayers thing will get better. >> we're all safe and moving on with dreams. >> all the fire victims in california, i just pray for them to be able to have strength to do that, too. >> reporter: abc7 news. >> water certainly to grateful to our firefighters. tomorrow is another "spare the air" day, the ninth one this year, and smoke from the wildfireses contributing to the unhealthy air as well as the heat. here's a live look from the exploratorium cam. skies are clear. it's been beautiful but very hot across the bay area. one community even reached a record high. meteorologist drew tuma tracking it all. which community? >> the final sunday of the summer season going down in the record books. actually have three communities in the past hour that hit new record highs. highs today. richmond, -- 96. sfo tying the record of 93.
