it's saturday, september 26th. thanks for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. we're finally getting much needed relief from the heat. here is meteorologist lisa argen with a first look at live doppler 7 hd. we certainly are and that's due to our low cloud and fog deck which is not large but making an impact. 500, 600 feet you can see it along the coast. a better vantage point from our emeryville cam ration you can see in the distance it is a very shallow deck and will be dissipating quickly. 55 in noeft to 65 concord 65 livermore. from the city and temperatures here will remain unchanged in the mid 70s, 60s coast side, low 80s san jose, upper 70s oakland. we will talk about the continued cooling trend for the rest of the month coming up. pope francis is now giving

mass at the cathedral basilica of st. peter and paul in philadelphia. this is a live look inside the basilica where the mass is the pope's first public event of the day. it's a day that will include a visit to prison inmates, then to independence mall before an evening concert metering aretha franklin. pope francis arrived at the basilica less than an hour ago, he traveled by helicopter from manhattan to jfk international airport and then boarded a flight for the city of brother-in-law love. downtown philly is said to be empty of cars. lana zach has more. >> reporter: pope francis has arrived in philadelphia. greeting pope here the bowes family, richard a former policeman shot in the line of duty, bernadette who held her family together through his recovery and their three children. >> just meeting him is a blessing. >> them symbolic of the world meeting of families, the primary reason for for the pope's visit to the united states. on the pope's agenda today mass

at the basilica of saints peter and paul, waving to the crowds on independence mall and tonight skon cert hosted by mark walberg. the events are expected to be the largest in philadelphia's history but the city management has been criticized for their hyper security. others are just happy to have the pope here. >> it's almost kind of that classic line out of cass a is a blank can a, in all the cities in and all the place in the world. >> reporter: for this hope who kants to be please clothes to his people it's a particular security concern. you may be able to hear the helicopters already circling overhead, this entire area has been cordoned off. anybody who wants to go in or out it's like going into airport security. abc news. this morning a team from the national transportation safety board will begin its first full day of investigation into the deadly duck boat crash in seattle. for the first time we're wearing hearing from the bay area family that was thrown from the tourist attraction but survived to tell their story.

this fremont woman was on vacation in seattle when the crash happened. she remains in a washington state hospital. >> reporter: this was supposed to be a weekend get away fort moody family to celebrate a relative's birthday, instead the survivors of a deadly seattle crash that killed four foreign exchange students. this is a crash that greg moody saw coming a split second before the impact. >> i heard them say, oh, no. i said we are in trouble. and then i saw us going right to the bus. >> reporter: greg, his daughter kate and his wife were sitting behind the duck boat driver ready for a fun tour along seattle's waterfront. instead it turned into a nightmare. >> it felt like we lost control and looked up and saw the bus headed towards us. >> reporter: just before the crash greg tried to protect his wife pat. i grabbed my wife and pushed her down and held her and i got thrown. >> reporter: he and his daughter were tossed out of the duck body. >> i saw people running towards us from their cars to check on

us. and everyone was actually really awesome. some lady helped me find my mom. >> her mom pat was still in the duck boat and suffered a broken collar bone, she and kate are still in the hospital. i talked with pat by phone from their neighbor's home in fremont. >> i had surgery on my clavicle, but they're waiting to see. >> reporter: greg had a few cuts to his face but has been released from the lopt. they are all not sure when they will be back home. abc 7 news. caltrain officials have issued an apology for an accident that happened last night trapping more than 900 passengers inside the train. the apology from the agency's executive director reads in part, i am initiating an immediate complete and thorough review of the incident with the goal of identifying what occurred and recommendations to improve our response. our customers should feel safe and comfortable. we have to be better even when faced with an extraordinary situation. here is what happened. a train rammed a vehicle in

burlingame disrupting the evening commute for thousands of people. it happened at about 5:40 last night. sky 7 hd was above the closed off area at broadway avenue. police said the people inside the vehicle made it out before the collision, but did not say why it was on the tracks to begin w at one point people started leaving the train through the windows. a viewer on board sent us this video, riders said the air conditioning stopped working and there was no communication from caltrain. at around 7:00 caltrain sent out a tweet asking riders to stop leaving the train because there were other active trains in the area. one man headed to san francisco for the ac/dc concert was afraid he would miss the show. >> we have had these tickets for six months now and we spent a lot of money on the tickets and looking forward to it with my good friends here and just trying to get up to the concert. >> reporter: another viewer video shows riders hopping the fence to leave the track, both

of which were cleared by 8:00 p.m. when you see news happening where you live take a photo or video and share it with ugs using the #abc 7 now. we may show it on air or online at abc7news.com. now to elissa bron day where one person died after two vehicles collided head on. an suv knocked on tots side and you can see the hood was crushed. several people were hurt, they crashed on san pab brow dam road at castro ranch road. the road reopened at 9:00 last night. a quick response from san francisco firefighters may have kept a fire from spreading to other buildings south of market last night. investigators believe it started as an electrical fire at dore and harrison. they said before the homes wooden and built on tomorrow of each other fires can easily spread. witnesses said firefighters were there minutes after it started. san jose police say the man shot by an officer was trying to

grab a shotgun out of a police cruiser. officers responded thursday night after 50-year-old ronald wood threatened to kill himself. when the officer arrived at monterey road police say woods refused to follow their orders so an officer tased and pepper sprayed him but owe fishlgs say that didn't work. when woods attempted to reach for the officer's shotgun case he was shot. woods is expected to recover from his injuries. a home burglary victim in saratoga says she will not press charges against those responsible as long as they return a box containing the ashes of her late husband. this is a picture of where the box was taken. it resembled a jewelry box so it may have been irresistible to the thieves. on friday morning the 8 three-year-old woman returned home to see two men run away from her house, get into a car and drive away. the box also contained her husband's death certificate and four silver coins. conservative republicans are cheering house speaker john boehner's stunning decision to quit congress.

this is a live look at the bay bridge this morning, the sun is up, a beautiful view to wake up to. we will get a check of the full forecast with lisa argen in just a little bit. now to philadelphia where you can see here we are taking live look this morning, pope francis beginning his trip to the city of brother-in-law love by celebrating mass at the catholic basilica of saints peter and paul this morning. this is believed to be pennsylvania's largest cathedral and the events surrounding the poem are expected to be the largest gathering in the city's history. later today he will be meeting with prison inmates, he will visit the independence mall where he will be addressing immigrants and he will take in a concert with aretha franklin as the head liner. in southern california is man is in custody after a high speed chase ended with a violent crash near los angeles. it happened around 10:00 last night in sherman oaks. police say the driver of a stolen car crashed into several cars stopped at a red light.

after the cash a woman and young auto seen were getting out of the back seat. she was take noon custody. one person in the first vehicle that was hit is listed in serious condition no. other major injuries were reported. now to the latest on the valleyz fire in lake county. the sheriff's office says all traffic restrictions will be lifted today at 5:00 p.m. in cobb and the surrounding neighborhoods. much of cobb was destroyed in the fire. it's the last area covered under a mandatory evacuation order. although the road blocks will be removed not all utilities have been restored. the fire is 95% contained and has burned more than 76,000 acres. happening today, up to 100 people in san francisco will let it all hang out. a federal judge ordered the city to allow a nude in march after police denied a nudist group a permit. the emergency order says it's their first amendment right to march. they will go along market street from the castro district to city

some pretty pictures, but we are looking at beautiful shot from our suit troe tower cam. you can see the fog framing the bay, upper 50s for san francisco and at the airport, 63 mountain view, 61 san jose, half-moon bay 57 degrees, we are looking at upper 50s across the bay in oakland, san jose you will be cooler today, anywhere from 3 to 5 degrees cooler for parts of the south bay, mid 60s in concord and livermore, fairfield has a southwest wind at 10 to 12 miles an hour, santa rosa 55 degrees, santa cruz it's going to be another warm one here at the beach. 83 while ocean beach will warm to about 68 and point reyes at about 70. cooling spreads across the bay with a mild pattern into next week. this is our last weekend of september and the end of the month is wednesday. thursday arrives with warmer conditions for october. very typical, but northwesterly winds -- or northeasterly winds will be absent, which is the

good news. here is the total lunar eclipse of the moon. tomorrow the eclipse starts at 8:23 and it really goes right on through the next several minutes or so, so 7:47 will be mid ee climps and the total ee climps begins at 7:11. we will have a little patchy fog. overall it should be good viewing out there. the reason the fog is coming back, this area of low pressure is dropping down from the gulf of alaska. but high pressure still holding on. we will see some comfortable temperatures and at fog fest you have a little bit of that fog, mid 60s noontime, 68, 3:00 with a few peeks of sun, back to 64, 6:00 in the afternoon. yesterday you will well into the 80s in san jose, 83 today as well as santa clara, 86 loss gat gatto. peninsula ranging from 80 in belmont, 77 san carlos, 78, san mateo, 83 los altos.

welcome back. we're taking one last look at philadelphia this morning where the pope has been celebrating mass at the cathedral basilica of saint peter and paul. pfr taking in his final full day here in the united states with a very packed schedule. later today he will be the deadliner at the world meeting of families, it's a gathering of 18,000 people and that conference has been underway as the pope traveled from washington to new york and then on to philly. here are the wing numbers from last night's $31 million mega malls draw, 3, 8, 38, 51, 64 the mega number 4. nobody picked all 6.
