proposed to his girlfriend last weekend, and he said how happy he was, and now they have four children, a full house, and he has not had the easiest couple of years, with the death of a child and divorce, and he was not candid talking about how he uses the struggles, and others to talk about how he is not a coach, but a teacher. >> adam: he had the contract extended and he is signed through 2020 and the max highest paid coach shy of $1 million a year. tops out of the mac. and on the other side urban myer has the biggest, one of the six top paid coaches of the country. >> kelly: yeah, you can see the difference of curtis samuel back at running back, and it is more shake and bake, and elliott is more downhill guy, and that is
4:01 pm
fine, because like the combination. >> adam: five touchdowns by five different players today for ohio state as barrett is a little bit off target on that throw, and nearly a third pick for darius phillips in the fourth game as a defensive back. james clark was the intended target as we have seen some of the second unit guys on offense. >> kelly: and good coverage again. and remember that darius phillips is a speed guy, and when they moved him to the defensive guy, he can flip the hips and cover like that, and nice play once again. nice play by fill the lips. >> adam: just a sophomore develop ing developing in that position. playing on the near side, and the play on tape done. >> kelly: has this ended any so-called quarterback controversy, because i don't know if there was in urban myers' mind, but there was
4:02 pm
around the country. >> adam: well, we go back to the process that you talked about, and urban myer said that cardale jones earned the starting job, and he took the spring reps because of the injury to braxton mi miller and the injuries that jth miller was recovering from. i didn't want to anoint guys. you don't the anoint guys at quarterback, which is what he told the media and us, until j.t. barrett beats cardale jones out, it is cardale's job. while the door is open, cardale is the starter, and it is still his job to own and have until somebody else says otherwise seemingly according to urban myer. >> kelly: and it is what happened in the spring and summer that happened. it is the growth of 12 at that time that the head coach said,
4:03 pm
there is no reason to make a change. >> adam: and the special teams with nearly great coverage. good effort there by ohio state by mclaurin, but into the end zone it goes, and on that pet a 32. >> kelly: and you can see, adam, j.t. barrett would have been my guy. we will see a -- too many player on the field for ohio state. >> adam: the quarterback questions all over the the country, and auburn has quarterback question, and usein a former under armour all american in shaun white, and how does -- in sean white, and how does that play out? and you are seeing a lot of question marks especially in the s.e.c. when you go into the pac-12, they know the guys and riding them as deep as they can with kessler and rosen and the other
4:04 pm
guys out there. >> kelly: and you know, throwing 50 times last week against texas tech, and they have to revisit their identity as well for arkansas, and the starting point for the quarterback situation would have been, barrett at 11-1 gets hurt. when you are healthy again, you get back on the horse, and that is what i have been taught, but it is the spring and the summer with cardale jones that the urban myer is putting his finger on. >> adam: bogan is stumbling forward and inside of 90 seconds now. >> kelly: and remember he stepped into a sportscar flying down the road with three games left, ab he played well, but essentially, he had to keep it in the ditches at this time. barrett helped to put the car in position, and so i would have gone back to 16, but i fully
4:05 pm
respect the fact that urban myer knows the team better than anybody else does, and what happened in the spring and summer is a critical piece of the puzzle. >> adam: and let's not forget that de'veon smith is a big talk, and if you have talked to the coaches or the fans, he is usually the guy that they talk about right after the quarterback, without the big play threat and marshall can become that guy, and samuel and thomas as well showing the ability, but that is an issue. and the offensive line was an issue, and the coaching staff admitted they were an issue in the first three game, and perhaps this game at some point they might consider that as well, so more questions than just barrett versus jones. there was a lot of to answer today, 38 points on the board today, a how comfortable is urban myer? >> kelly: well, he is better, but still looking at the offense that left some points on the field once again. i think that there is certainly work to be done, and you have a championship defense on the other side, so they will allow you the make some mistakes
4:06 pm
offensively, but the stakes are going up from here. indiana will be able to score the points on seemingly everybody. so offensively, there is still some improvement to be made, but for crying out loud, 4-0, and you are the defending national champions, and there is an awful lot the like about urban myers' group. >> adam: urban myer and p.j. fleck meet at midfield as ohio state goes to 4-0, and michigan will go to 1-3. the defense continues the play well for the buckeyes, and you would think that it is cardale jones next week adds well. for urban myer who is with olivia myer. >> olivia: coach, cardale with career passing yards and are you
4:07 pm
final finally seeing the quarterback that you wanted to see? >> well, we are playing better, but the expectations are high, but i thought that the receivers played great and we had a couple of receiver shots that i thought that we could have hit, but we played better. >> olivia: and kcardale and j.t, and three receivers, and what do you see? >> well, we need to get better. >> olivia: the offense as a whole a big question mark, and the front five, did you see progress? >> yes, much improved and the front five played well, and zeke play hard and curtis as well, and so we have good weapon, and overall, much better. >> olivia: now, coach, that the preseason schedule is over, how kconfident are you going into te conference schedule? >> very good, but we have to get better. >> adam: and it is big ten play for the rest of the way for the
4:08 pm
buckeyes who are going to go in as the number one team, but these are going to be difficult matchups. and you will see ohio state and indiana next week. >> kelly: and the defending national champion, and you don't win it in the first four weeks, but you begin to win it now, and urban myer is liking the things that he is beginning to see on the offensive side with guys like that. >> adam: and cardale jones 19 of 33 and two touchdowns and an interception, and 288 yards through the air as ohio state moves to 4-0, and they have won 69 of last 70 at home against unranked conference teams. ucla and arizona later on tonight, and for kelly and oley ya, i'm adam amin, and so long from columbus.
