>> good morning. it's sunday, september 27th. i'm tiffany wilson, in for carolyn tyler. let's start off with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning to you. you can look at the high clouds here on this picture where you notice most of them are in the east and south bay but they have really been all over the bay the last couple of days. this is cue to the southern branch of the jet stream and the southwesterly flow we are caught up in. it could obscure the eclipse tonight. but you will have to check it out. it's been pretty nice the past few evenings. 60 by the delta and concord. cooler in the north bay, and throughout the day today the high clouds will mix in with the sunshine. low clouds along the coast.

and overall we will see a mostly cloudy afternoon. temperatures coming down to start the work week many with he will talk more in detail about that coming up in a few minutes. tiffany. >> lisa, thank you. and this is a live picture right now at pope francis is just beginning the final public event of his historic and so far extremely successful u.s. trip. as you see, the holy father is meeting with bishops at a seminary in philadelphia. this is a live picture as he is greeting the different bishops. he just walked through a hall with all the seminarians who are giving him a standing ovation. the pope's visit so far has drawn huge crowds. people who have come from far and wide just to get a glimpse of the man who has shown such great humility and also displayed a great sense of humor. abc news reporter lana zach is in philadelphia. good morning. >> good morning. it was a celebration of families

embracing him and giving a blessing to the boy and family before heading off to mass. the prime minister of india, narendra modi, will face protests today as he wraps up his visit to the silicon valley. a group called sikhs for justice will be protesting him at severalful his events. he met yesterday with apple's tim cook and the heads of google, microsoft, cisco and adobe. and elon musk. modi is being heavily guarded during his trip. this is the view from outside his hotel. despite his popularity in india, some of his actions are interpreted as violating human rights. and trying to convert india to a hindu-only nation. today he will speak to 18,000 people at the sap center and attend a town hall meeting. he will also meet with governor jerry brown. >> in the east bay, a motorcycle chase led chp officers right to a suspected drunk driver. last night the chp tried to pull

over a motorcycle but the riders took off. officers chased the man and woman on the bike for about one minute until the motorcycle hit a car. both people on the bike were thrown off and got hurt. police arrested the driver of the car on suspicion of drunk driving. this morning two men are recovering after a pg&e transformer exploded in san francisco's bernal heights neighborhood. it happened around 7:45 yesterday morning. according to pg&e, the explosion was caused by equipment failure near wolf street. power is still out for about 58 customers. federal investigators in seattle said the front axle of a duck vote involved in a deadly crash was sheared off. yesterday the national transportation safety board inspected the wheel of the vehicle. they don't know if the axle came off before or after the boat swerved and hit the side of an oncoming charter bus on thursday. four international college students were killed. witnesses say it looked like the duck boat's front tire locked up and brake fluid shot out of the front end.

>> we do plan to take that, along with other parts of the front axle and front drive mechanism and send it back to our laboratories. but it's way too early to say anything about probable cause. >> today investigators will begin interviewing survivors, including a family from fremont, who was on the duck boat when it crashed >> i thought we lost control, looked up and saw the bus headed toward us. >> katie and her mother are in the hospital with broken collar bones. one of the most destructive fires in california history is nearly under control nearly two weeks after it started. the valley fire is 95% contained. it burned more than 76,000 acres. the fire destroyed more than 1200 homes and 27 multi-family structures that includes duplexes and apartments. crews of working to renew the natural landscape destroyed by the fire. the butte fire is now 93%

contained and nearly 71,000 acres. it has burned 475 homes. all evacuation orders have now been lifted. this morning the red cross is helping six people after a fire destroyed their san jose home. it happened 4:30 yesterday afternoon on martin avenue near south white road. the fire quickly went to a second alarm and they were able to get it under control a short time later. two residents suffered minor injuries and a firefighter was also hurt. he is being treated at the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery. no air conditioning and little communication. witnesses describe the scene of near panic after a minor accident did helped passengers onboard a train from burlingame for nearly an hour this weekend. cornell bernard has the story. [train whistle] >> caltrain is back on track along the peninsula but friday's commute came to a screeching halt. sky 7hd was over burlingame where a northbound express train struck two unoccupied cars on

the tracks. none of the 900 passengers were hurt, but no one could get off. >> honestly i thought there was a public health risk there. >> mark was on board. he said there was little communication from the engineer, and then the air conditioning went out. >> it very quickly became 100, 110, 120 degrees. people became profusely sweaty. there were elderly on the train i started to get concerned about. >> careful! >> cell phone video shows people escaping out of the emergency windows. those who stayed on board took to social media. mckenzie shared this help picture with us. using the hashtag abc7 now. others demanded answers from caltrain about what was going on. he tweeted how long will the delay be? it's hot in here. benny said i'm on the train that hit the car, it's hot on here. can someone bring me a fan? part two, great t-shirt.

>> police telling some passengers to stay on board. >> they threatened everybody with arrest if they got out. >> they said the rail line was still active, it was too dangerous. but getting a new train to get passengers on too longer than expected. >> i sincerely apologize to the passengers who were affected by this. it's really unacceptable to me to have that lent of a delay. we have to do a better job. >> more than an hour later passengers were on their way after a long, hot and very scary commute. in burlingame, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> and this was the third caltrain incident of the week. on tuesday a train hit a car that stopped on the tracks on fourth avenue near san mateo, and a man was struck standing on the platform of the san antonio platform in mountain view. a spokesperson said he was standing too close to the train. the man is expected to be okay. >> there will be a rare sight in the sky tonight. a super blood moon will be visible in the u.s.

the eclipse will start at 7:11:00 p.m. as the sun and moon are exactly opposite each other and the earth shadows the moon. this has only happened four times in the last 115 years. a super blood moon is only visible during a lunar eclipse and only when the moon is at its closest point to the earth. lisa, how will the skies be looking tonight? >> they could be partially obscured, but interesting viewing. we've had the high cirrus clouds the past couple of days and the evening and today we will increase the southwesterly flow with the high clouds. a look outside, and it's a nice start in san francisco at 57 degrees. we aren't going to see a lot of change. our slow and gradual cooling trend continues, but it will get a little morrow bust in the days to come. i'll explain when we comeback >> he'sa, thank you. also concerned parents hit the picket line. their warning for customers of a busy convenience store in the north bay. >> and it's happened again.

east san rafael. the group, youth for justice, has been asking them to remove sweetened energy drinks that contain a high percentage of alcohol. the protesters, some as young as 9 years old, say teenagers are the target market, even though they can't legally buy them. >> it's highly palatable for kids, and these are the drinks that are the transition drinks between soda and alcohol. >> we contacted circle k. they told us no comment. >> a viral protest on social media hit several bay area restaurants yesterday. activists with the #doing #doingmeatplease sent us this message. they posed as customers asking for dog meat. they say they do this to high light the hypocrisy of loving

some animals while eating other. in a statement the slanted door said service was briefly jumped by a couple loudly pro claiming false acquisitions. they did the guest they could to diffuse the situation. exterminators will treat a library in berkeley that's been closed for the weekend because of bedbugs. abc7 news was at the north branch library as people found the doors locked and a notice about the closer. an art event scheduled for yesterday was cancelled. bedbugs were found in the rooms, under the desk of the public computer area and in a chair in the adult reading area. >> i'm sort of shocked. i don't know how bedbugs spread in a public building. i mean, i thought they were, hence the name bedbugs. the library is expected to reopen tuesday. >> the 30th annual fog fest

continues this weekend. it's expected to draw about 630,000 people. yesterday there were music and food, fan jumping. and a super bowl exhibit featuring the nine speakers the raiders. it starts at 9:00 this morning. and in san jose, the rock. and roll will run through the bay area. there will be a lot of road closers for much of the day. make sure to take that into account if you are heading out and about in san jose this morning. also take into account the weather this morning. it's going to be pretty hot in san jose. >> we've had low 80s. we will get cooling around gilroy and morgan hill. about 3 degrees warming for you to take you out of 90s. and concord, and the concord airport was at about 90, 92. today was a little bit more cooling and we should take you down into the upper 80s, perhaps 90s. the cooling trend has been slow

but steady. live doppler 7hd high lighting the high clouds, the steady to stream of moisture that we've seen from the southwest that continues to pump up into southern and northern california. we've got a low off the coast and the southern branch of the jet stream all adding to the moisture. any rain in that moisture for us? no. about you it could obscure some of the viewing for tonight's total eclipse of the moon. but still, it will be certainly a spectacular sight you shouldn't miss. 60 mountain view. 67 morgan hill and san francisco. 59 in oakland. and here's a look in the east bay where temperatures are comfortable. 53 in the north bay. it's cooler there with novato bottoming out to 50. ten degrees warmer for you. 62 in livermore. this is a nice-looking picture from our sutro tower camera where the sun will be up in just about 50 minutes or so. a mixture of sun and cirrus today. cooler temperatures right on through wednesday. that should be the coolest day

of the week. look for the warmup as october begins. and unfortunately that could bring a slight off-shore push. the timeline for the eclipse tonight, it begins at 7:11. mid-eclipse is 7:47, and then the end of the total eclipse will be at 8:23. so you've got a good opportunity to check it out. about you as i said before, we will have some cloud cover out there. but still, i'm sure it will be spectacular. overall we are looking at that moisture not only throughout northern california from this low, but really southern california, as well. with he have a couple of systems that will work in our favor to cool us off day-to-day. more pronounced tomorrow in response to this area of low pressure. so that will increase the marine layer and we will see the temperatures come down out of those 80s. in fact, by wednesday maybe just about 80 in our inhand east bay. more low clouds and fog a little bit more in pacifica this morning. then some peeks of sun.

then the pope is expected to wrap up his very, very busy schedule by boarding a flight to return to the vatican at 5:00. during the pope's address yesterday, he called on americans to honor their country's ideals of liberty and equality. he also talked at lent about immigration. >> during his address at independence hall he spoke with immigration. he hold the recent immigrants to hold on to their traditions. he told people to hold on to their traditions. >> i ask you not to forget, like those who came here before you, you bring many gifts to this nation. [applause] >> he reminded americans to honor the history of caring for the poor and welcoming immigrants. it's a message many catholics in the bay area are happy to hear. >> hopefully people will listen and open their hearts and look

that will spark questions on "this week." carson said a president should be sworn in on a stack of bibles, not a koran. the retired neurosurgeon said he doesn't have a problem with a muslim who has rejected their law being elected. you can see "this week" with george stephanopoulos on abc7 at 8:00. facebook ceo mark zuckerberg wants to bring the internet to people around the world. zuckerberg met with world leaders in new york yesterday. he announced a special partnership aimed at ending poverty through connectivity. >> first we need to work together to make connecting the world a priority for everyone. from government to industry to civil society. today i'm pleased to announced facebook is partnering with the one campaign, the one organization and leaders and public figures all over world to launch global support to support a connectivity declaration. the declaration recognizes internet access is an important enabler of human rights.

stream of kirr. s, we will continue to see some of the sky obscured tonight for the eclipse. you have a good amount of time to check it out from 7:is 1 to 8:23. it will be something not to miss out there. in terms of your forecast today, with the low offshore, and an upper level low to the north and west of us in response to that, the cooling gets more pronounced tomorrow, into tuesday and wednesday with just a little bit more low cloudiness, more of an on shore push and that will allow for the temperature to come down each bay maybe 2 to 4 degrees. today we will continue with the theme, but with the high clouds all the way from the sacramento valley through monterey and southern california. 95 in fresno. 88 los angeles with 81 in san diego many so we will be looking at temperatures to be comfortable again in oakland with the mid-70s. low 70s as that cooling trend heads our way, and warmest day should be next friday at about 80 degrees. 81 today in fremont. 83 san jose.
