that's weather. let's get a check of traffic. >> good morning, drew. we are just in time for the 6:00 hour have cancelled the cig alert southbound side of 101 in san francisco. this happened right at caesar chavez street. 13 miles per hour is still your speed as you pass right by fourth street. we have some major backups still remaining on the bay bridge. as you look at the red here. 24 miles per hour as you leave treasure island. as you take that round about to treasure island, still bumper to bumper traffic. it's about a 35-minute commute from the maize right into caesar chavez. >> thank you. happening today planned parenthood faces congress on capitol hill. lawmakers are determined to defund the organization over allegations it sells fetal tissue illegally. janet oh has more.

>> they want to defund for a year unless they stop all abortions. the house is expected to vote on the bill. the president of planned parenthood will be testifying on capitol hill. she says they donated fetuses for research adding that it's a small part of their overall work and services provided. republicans want a full investigation looking into the nonprofit, its practices and how federal dollars are used. this is on the heels of a series of undercover videos leaked by the pro life group center for medical progress that allegedly shows planned parenthood employees discussing the illegal sale. six states conducted their own investigation and found no wrong doing by planned parenthood. live in the newsroom, abc 7 news. one month after an inmate died inside the santa clara county jail, another inmate has been found dead. a male inmate was found passed out in his cell 10:30 yesterday morning.

the deputy gave him cpr until medic ace arrived. they could not resuscitate him. his name or cause of death has not been released. at the same jail a month e ago, three were arrested for murdering an inmate. he died from blunt force trauma and internal bleeding. two deputies are out on bail and are expected to enter pleas next month. a third is expected in court next week. the north branch will reopen after a bedbug infestation. crews finished treating the building yesterday and will reopen at 10:00. officials closed the branch on friday after bedbugs were found in three locations inside the building. out of precaution, we'll check out the other branches this thursday. bedbugs were found at a palo al to branch as well. the warriors journey to defend their nba title begins defend their nba title begins today with training camp.

san jose next monday. the official season starts on october 27th. reporting live in pleasant hill, abc 7 news. >> there's been a quick response to a site for the warriors arena. critics of mission bay locations are proposing it be built a mile to the south along the corridor near peer 80. the warriors hope to build in the next couple years, but opponents believe traffic and congestion it could create would endanger people needing to get to three hospitals near the location. the backers issued this statement saying the opponents don't speak for the neighborhood and certainly don't have anything to do with the warriors. they want the mission bay property for themselves, the statement said. that's just not going to happen. happening today, 49ers linebacker ahmad brooks is scheduled to appear in court. he's accused of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman at a party.

both were indicted last month. brooks remains under contract with the 49 rs. happening today president obama plans to meet with the cuban president in new york city. this encounter comes as the two go about the long and complex process of normalizing relations after decades of animosity. in december both leaders agreed to restore diplomatic relations. the u.s. recently eased rules for citizens who want to visit or do business in cuba. a wifi expansion is closer. the city council voted to lay the groundwork for city wide internet and expanded wireless service. expanding service to parks and other facilities would cost up to $200,000. establishing a secure network for ski apartment buildings would cost $370,000. in the coming months, city staff will meet with google and at&t to discuss the possibility of a public/private partnership. two innovators from the bay area are among 24 people who received genius grants from the

welcome back, coming up on 6:13. a first look at the latest eruption of a volcano. this video shows it spewing thick plumes of ash and spoke yesterd yesterday. it also erupted on sunday. experts say the ash is falling on villages east of the volcano, but no injuries have been reported. a devastating loss in the extreme sports community. 39-year-old eric roaner died in a sky diving accident in squaw valle valley. he broke all the rules of extreme sports. he was a north bay native. cornell bernard talked with some of his hometown friends. >> he sort of flew under the radar. he didn't make a big show of his immense talent.

>> he graduated from ta ra linda high school. he was more than a world class athlete. he was a world class husband and father of two small children. another university is distancing itself from bill cosby. brown university is revoking an honorary degree it gave the disgraced comedian years ago. the decision was made because cosby has admitted to conduct contrary to the values of the university. this move comes after other universities revoked honorary degrees last week. over the years dozens of women have accused cosby of sexual assault, but he's not been arrest arrested in relation to any of the cases. u.s. safety regulators say seven more auto makers could be seven more auto makers could be kmaktd by an airbag recall. the airbags have been linked to eight deaths.

where the u.s. military has carried out an air strike against the taliban. the group captured a city in a surprise attack just hours before. the afghan military also launched counteroffensives. reports indicate members have fanned out in full force akrs the city. afghanistan's president vows to break the stronghold and take back the city. a dozen climate activists face trespassing charges for causing a disruption to the financial district. about 100 protesters took over the intersection yesterday demanding businesses do more to fight climate change. they painted an earth symbol on the payment and sat down and blocked traffic. others went inside the bank of the west. 22 hotel workers could face charges after a noisy protest.

the workers staged a sit-in to get attention on efforts to unionize. the protest coincided with the hotel owners conference inside. the protest was peaceful, but police started arresting workers after they ignored warnings to move out of the doorway. today is a big day for tesla. the new model x will roll out of the factory today. the model x is tesla's first suv and it starts at $71,000. the vehicle is more than a year behind but that hasn't impacted test will's bottom line. shares are up 18% this year. google's latest effort will measure the amount of smog in your neighborhood. a san francisco company that builds air pollution sensors announced a deal monday to install equipment on google street view cars. the sensors will measure pollution in the bay area, central california, central valley and los angeles. the data will be posted on google maps for everyone to see. the readings could affect real estate values, highlight health risks around schools and parks

there's a chance wednesday night into thursday we could see a few show showers out there. we'll talk about that but first a check on traffic with leyla gulen. >> good morning, drew. i want to take you over to highway 4 where we have an accident blocking a lane. this is westbound side at harbor street. we have a long line of cars here right into bay point concorde. here's a look at drive time traffic. if you're traveling from antioch to hercules, that's almost one hour. i-80 to the maize, 32 minutes, pretty packed there. that's contributed to an earlier cig alert in san francisco. 87 northbound, that's a 12-minute commute. you see how light traffic is right here. it's because the traffic is right behind it. we have an accident blocking two lanes right now. an investigation is underway after another inmate was found dead at the santa clara county jail. matt keller is live in san jose with the latest for us.

>> reporter: any death here at the main jail is going to be scrutinized because of what took place one month ago. and the resulting charges against three correctional deputies. we're still pretty limited on what e we know about the latest death. the sheriffs office says a man was found unresponsive around 10:30 e yesterday morning. they could not resuscitate him. his name or cause of death has his name or cause of death has not been released. the death is receiving greater scrutiny because of another death a month ago. an autopsy shows he died from blunt force trauma and internal bleeding. they are expected to enter pleas next month. the third deputy is scheduled for a bail hearing today. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you.

a coroner's jury has found the death of an inmate in richmond was due to natural cau causes. hamilton died on april 25th at the west county detention facility. the cell mate hit the emergency button. she died from a potentially fatal inflammation in the abdomen. >> police spent much of the night at the scene of a shooting that left two people dead. officers say their gunshot detection system fired four shots. they arrived to find two men dead inside a car. no word on suspects or motive. police are asking the public's help in tracking down a man who has been missing since sunday. the 39-year-old was last seen around 3:00 sunday morning. police say he may have visited a casino somewhere in the bay area. he has black hair and brown eyes. if you have seen him, you're asked to call daily city police. killer bees have made their

way into the bay area for the first time. researchers found the bees in lafayette near the southeast side of regional park. you don't need to be concerned. this breed normally is no more aggressive than average bees, but they can swarm and turn deadly when the colony is threatened. some parents say killer bees are one more thing to be aware of while enjoying the great outdoors. >> there's snakes and other things that can hurt them. it's just another thing you add on to your list as a parent. >> on the rare occasion of a swarm of bees coming after you, cover your face and run as fast as you can until you're inside. don't jump into the water because killer bees will actually wait for you until you come up for air. >> amazing. a setback this morning for drivers hoping that a third lane

on the rich monday bridge would be open by next week. the bill won't be brought up until january at the earliest. the plans to turn what is now the eastbound shoulder into a traffic lane but the agency says it needs two years to get that done. hillary clinton continues a bay area fundraising blitz with a breakfast in san francisco. a breakfast in san francisco. >> i think it's pretty exciting. my son thinks it's really exciting. i mean, hillary clinton, it's great to have her here. the san francisco mayor will host this morning's fundraising breakfast. vice president joe biden will be invited to take part in

the first democratic primary debate if he decides to run for president. the invitation will be open as late as the day of that debate. the first presidential debate is scheduled for october 13th in las vegas. republican presidential candidate jeb bush says ending the ban on u.s. oil exports and easing restrictions on natural gas exports will unleash the nation's economy. it's the center piece of the energy plan he will unveil today. reversing the ban would lower energy prices, clear the manufacturing sector and fuel more rapid economic growth. lifting the ban would benefit the nation's petroleum industry. a teen trying to make a difference is stirring things up. his backyard's haunted house has been a huge charitable success. the money he earns from the haunted house goes to the food bank but all the construction and large crowds caused some neighbors to complain forcing him to apply for a city permit.

located. if you're traveling northbound, it is a grind. that's all because of an accident here as you merge on to 880. it's also slow because of another accident at the tolls on the san mateo bridge. 6:41 now. paul walker's 16-year-old daughter is suing porsche. >> the actor was riding in a porsche doing more than 100 miles per hour when it crashed in 2013. the lawsuit filed claims the car had a number of design defects that trapped him inside. the family of the driver filed a similar lawsuit. >> it was porsche's fault. they put a ticking time bomb on the road and the bomb exploded. >> the lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. on "good morning america," more details on the safety shortcuts that the german auto maker is accused of taking. that's coming up at 7:0037.
