crime veterans becoming way too familiar. the f.b.i. and a.t.f. agents are on the scene going through the campus to make sure there are no explosives that may have been left hype. the campus will remain closed until at least monday and many of the students say they do not know if they will ever be able to return to school. >> thanks. we are learning more of the suspected gunman, born in england but moved with his family to southern california as a young boy. this morning his father is speaking out. our reporter continues our coverage from the newsroom. >> the father of the suspected gunman spoke with reporters at the tarzana home in southern california. ian mercer is shocked and devastated. this is the photo of his son, chris harper mercer, you can see what appears to be a rifle. the 26-year-old lived in oregon with his mother. investigators searched the whom throughout the night. neighbors described the suspect

as kind odd and say they used to see him come asking going with what they thought were gun cases. the suspect said he and his mom would go shooting at a gun range. the suspect's father is headed to oregon now and said he is cooperating with investigators. >> obviously it has been a devastating day. devastating for me and my family, and i ask, i know you are here to do your job, i ask you respect our privacy. >> officers are pouring over threatening posts made at a bulletin board saying in part and i quote, "don't go to school tomorrow if you are in the northwest." thank you. >> the sheriff where the shooting happen has been outspoken against gun control. the sheriff sent an open letter to vice president biden saying gun legislation was not the answer and that he would not enforce any federal legislation in his county. biden renewed the call for

the victims and the families go to our facebook page to share this badge letting people in oregon know you are with them. >> other news a teen could be arraigned by today in the deaths of the father, step brother and his soon-to-be step mom. police arrested the 16-year-old buchanan yesterday. firefighters found the bodies of the three victims in a burned out cabin in el dorado county last month. he told investigators he stayed hype at the home and spoke with his martial arts instructor after he was told of their deaths. >> he was talking about moving on, moving forward, and talking about the businesses, on his own, that struck me as weird. >> the autopsies revealed all three were shot before the fire started. the prosecutors say they intend to charm buchanan as an adult. >> the center at the center of a gone girl kidnapping case will

be arraigned on monday. 38-year-old mathew muller was indicted yesterday by a federal grand jury on one count of kidnapping. he is accused of breaking into a vallejo man tying up the man and holding his girlfriend, denise huskins, for ransom for two days. muller was identified as a suspect after he was arrested in a home invasion robbery in dublin two months later. >> renters want to stop a trend many are dealing with, skyrocketing represents driving out seniors and families. activists put up tent outside city hall calling on the city leaders to adopt represent control to make it more difficult for the landlords to evict tenants. >> because the landlords are a victim if no rope, they do not need a reason in alameda, we have no laws. they do. >> it is a ball town and it has taken pride in the community and it is torn apart by this absolute greed. the greed of the property speculators. >> only a few bay area cities

walnut creek, burlingame, campbell, and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. >> a couple of second away from 4:42. california high schools are the first-in-the-nation to teach a new form of sex education, with the focus on what soviet unions consent so that students never feel they are forced to do something against their will. matt keller explains. matt? >> reading, writing and math and now lessons on sexual consent coming for high school students. state of california requires universities and colleges to apply the affirmative consent or how it is better known as the "yes means yes standard," when investigating sexual assault. what does it mean for high schoolers? the legislation that the governor endorsed requires school districts already requiring a health course to graduate, would neat to teach yes means yes and sexual violence prevention of the republicans and democrats supported the measure in the legislature.
