fighting back. the story behind this dramatic video captures a man's desperate struggle with a man with a gun. plames destroy one san jose business and others are spared. the one thing fire crews credit with stopping the fire from spreading. >> we haven't seen this level of rain in a thousand years. that's how big this is. >> historic flooding drenches south carolina. the latest efforts to keep people safe. abc7 news at 5:00 starts right now. search crews return to the water at an east bay lake, not giving up in the search for a san francisco man missing since a boating trip on friday. hello. we begin withthat developing story out of livermore.

that's where we find melly woodrow. i understand the missing man was boating with a group of coworkers? >> reporter: that's right. we have some brand new information to share with you just seconds ago. i talked with a spokesman from evening until parks police who says divers are in the lake right now searching the bottom of the lake by hand? what has changed over to a recovery mission at this point. we know that this employee, the sales force employee, was with other sales force employees but it's up clear from the company whether or not they that sponsored the trip. we also know that all boats are suppose told be off the lake by 6:00 p.m. but it was closer to 7:00 p.m. that this particular boat began taking on water. >> crews spend the day searching the lake for a man missing since friday night. boaters, like gloria, were not allowed on the lake. >> very unfortunately. >> reporter: an east bay reaming nal park spokesman says the

missing man is 31 years old, works for sales force. a spokesperson says he was on an aluminum privately opt bode with six to eight people when i gap taking on water. other boaters swam to shore before realizing the man was missing. he is a contractor in the i.t. organization in an e-mail statement the spokesperson said our thoughts are with his family and friends during this time. we are receiving updates from local authorities but have no further information to share. several sales force employees were at the lake today but did not want to speak on camera. long-time boater justin said all privately owned boats are inspected before they get in the water. inspectors check for mussels that can harm the lake. >> require a live vest. >> east bay regional parks confirms the boat was over its weight capacity and that none of the boaters, including the missing man, were wearing life

jackets. it's unclear happen, if any, life vests were on board. >> best to take the recommendation of your craft or local staff. >> in livermore, abc7 news. >> incredible video of a home invasion in san francisco. policing are asking for your help identifying this arm man attacking another man in a garage near irving street. happened monday morning and you can see the victim wrestles with the suspect in an effort to get his gun. succeeded and then runs out of the garage with the attacker now chasing him. the victim then points the gun at the suspect, who then took off. contact sfpd if you have any information about this incident. a bicyclist died while participating in a charity ride in sonoma county. chp says he was wearing a helmet and traveling 35 miles-per-hour on a steep grade of king ridge

road now houser bridge. the then misjudged a curve, flew off the road and later died of a head injury. this first death in the event's seven year history. >> a warning to caltrans from the designer of the bay bridge's eastern span. he says rain water looking into bring's after ridges is making it vulnerable to -- the officials downplayed the threat are and preoccupied with possible corrosion at the rods at the base of the stan's tower. a bum of 137 strands form a figure eight, critical to the bridge others integrity. the designer fears rust on the strands. >> a huge fire rereduces a grocery store to charred rubble, it happened at cho senter foods. a mobile home park was evacuated. firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading.

>> we made aggressive interior attack but the heat and smoke published the crews out. we -- pushed the crews out. >> firefighters say a file wall inside of the store prevented the flames from damaging any other businesses. no word on what started the fire. >> we're learning defiles of the ordeal or four california firefighters burn in the valley fire. they released a report. the four failed a sheet of flame on cobb mount in lake county. they tried to take their portable shelters out of the backpacks but had problems due to the melting of the plastic covering. here's a photo of one of the injures two of the firefighters are back home now. who others still remain in the hospital. crews expect to fully contain the fire by tuesday. we're hearing tonight from family members of some of those who surveyed a mass shooting. the one that killed nine people

on oregon's umpqua community college campus on thursday. investigators have been searching 26-year-old chris harper mercer's apartment for my clues. church services today have been dedicated to the victims. 30-year-old army vet chris mintz suffered seven gunshot wounds while charging the shooter in an attempt to stop him. >> i'm overwhelmed by the support i've gotten. >> this woman escaped without physical injuries, the gun mound thought she was dead and stepped over her. >> i seen that and i got her back but others don't get theirs back. grateful, and very unexplained way guilty. >> many in roseburg say they have chosen to not focus on the violence but the heroic efforts of first responders in instead.

in an hour a vigil will be held for the oregon school shooting victims in support of gun control. the brady campaign against gun violent will hold the vigil tonight at the congressional church of san mateo. now to a dangerous and developing situation in south carolina. unprecedented rainfall has forced the governor to close several interstates around the capitol of columbia and advising people to stay home. the coast guard is working to help with hundreds of flood rescues. take a look at this. people banding together to help pull a flood victim from the rushing water. some say they barely schemed with their liars. >> we have lost everything. what i got on my body is what we have. pretty much everybody down the hill there has lost everything. vehicles, collects, everything. but the best thing is that we still have our lives. >> residents are being told to

boil water before drinking it after the massive flooding caused a number of water line breaks. part of the state could see over 24 inches of rain by tonight. president obama earlier declared a federal state of emergency for south carolina. >> in the bay area, much milder bull city pretty unusual weather. you-see the flashes skies. the same weather system brought a us strong winds and a red flag warning that expired this morning. let's get a quick check on conditions right now from our meteorologist. >> the system that brought the lightning and strong winds is diving to the south. the second half of the weekend has relaxed. this time yesterday they were anywhere from 30 to 50 miles-per-hour. right now the winds have calmed down. those winds are going to bring about a big change for the weather in the coming week. we'll detail that in the

everywhere but it doesn't seem to be malicious. the hackers apparently forcing owners to maker their routers more secure. 10,000 have been hit so far by the software that tries to kill malware. some cases it forces the device to reboot every week, clearing away any dangerous malware. though it seem the hacker has good intentions it is still illegal. ahead an event dubbed the biggest party between two bridges. it may look like a standard race to you, but for some the fun begins right at the finish line. we'll explain. heading outside, live look from the sutro tower cam. drew says we can expect october heat on the way.

the 39th annual bridge to bridge run made its way across san francisco today. here is video of runners on the embarcadero. it benefits the special olympics. runners went past the city's waterfront before ending at marina green with a big party featuring live bands. runners 21 or older got their first beer or cider for free. >> a dog gong good time for people and their pooches. the dog-tober event in livermore. they hope to break the record for most dogs wearing a bandana in one place. the current world record is 764, so doesn't seem like that record was broken today, but we have yet to hear back from the district on the official statistics for the number of

lots of sunshine. the forecast is a quiet pattern of morning fog to afternoon sunshine. temperatures near average through mid-week, and then we're tracking october warmth for the second half of the seven day forecast. live doppler 7hd along with satellite, that low pressure brought us the wind and thundershowers yesterday. that moving into southern california. what will be replacing it, high pressure, and with the high pressure the heat will be building and gradually see a warming trend through the next seven days. it's a different story on the east coast. a slow-moving system over the carolinas bringing those soaking showers. look over towards bermuda. that's hurricane walk -- joaquin, that's part of the reason they're having historic rainfall, south carolina has just been soaked. mt. pleasant, just to the east of charleston, the past 72 hours they have seen two feet of rain. compare that to san san franciss
