live, from the kgo broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. >> good afternoon, everybody. we again in san jose where police have arrested a man in a mysterious cat nappings and killings. 24-year-old robert farmer has been booked into the santa clara county jail facing animal cruelty charnls. first, news of the arrest on twitter today. he arrived with the latest. >>. >> abc 7 first learned of the arrest but weren't sure why he was taken into custody. police searched his car and

found a disturbing and very important piece of evidence which linked him to the mysterious cat killings. >> this is where police arrested robert farmer sleeping in his car. they found a dead cat in his car. he matched the description of a cat napper. this is the newest video obtained by abc 7 news. watch closely. you'll see a man running quickly across the screen. neighbors say he's a quality napper. >> somebody was coming around the block and had walked up to one of the cats with a backpack and was trying to take that cat and put it into the backpack. >> as the man was doing that, another cat jumped out of his backpack. >> that cat got out, ran over to my friend's house and was able to run up the tree.

>> she appear today have been beaten and had a strange bite mark. >> the vet told one of our friend that it was not an animal bite. it was something else. that neighbor says the man looks just like the person in the previous video who snatched go-go the cap. police say a neck rom sill will be done to identify the cat found in the suspected's car. >> a hero overseas gets stabbed here at home. this is surveillance video showing one of the three sacramento friends who helped stop a terror attack in fransz getting stabbed outside a bar in sacramento early this morning. police have just released this picture on twitter. >> reporter: hailed an international hero just two months ago. airman spencer stone is now back in the hospital.

this time, after being repeatedly stabbed in what appears to be a street fight captured on this surveillance video in his hometown of sacramento. >> reporter: the assault happened in a popular bar area just after midnight thursday. police say the parties involved had been drinking in a nightclub. >> there was conversations and then it continued down the block where the stabbing occurred. >> this altercation after stone and his two childhood friends. >> he came up and grabbed the gun out of his hand while i put him in a choke hold. >> they received frans's highest medal and also met president obama. in france, stone's finger was cut off with a box cutter and had to be reattached. now, after this stabbing, he's recovering from significant but not life-threatening injuries.

>> and many people are sending in their well-wishes to stone. everybody send prayers out to the stone family today. sacramento mayor kevin johnson tweeted my thoughts and prayers go out to stone and the stone family. also making news today, called 9-1-1 this afternoon. sky 7 hd was over the scene just before 3:00. the rangers wheeled the woman in a stretcher to an ambulance. it was above 85 degrees in lafayette this afternoon. the woman is expected to be okay.

>> a san jose woman is still on the loose this afternoon. david was wearing handcuffs when he bolted from a bail bondsman escorting him to the santa clara county jail this afternoon. >> wanted on two felony warrants. one of them for assault with a deadly weapon. a san jose man faces 5:00 ewizations of smuggling a hundred pounds of marijuana from sfo to boston. state police provided this picture showing a drug-sniffing dog. investigators focused on san jose after they reviewed information he was transporting illegal drugs. he was arrested after arrived in boston. >> just as the caucus was about to take its secret ballot vote, the man that most people expected would win, representative kevin mccarthy of bakersfield suddenly dropped out

wreaking the required votes. both say they are shocked by mccarthy's withdrawal. mccarthy faced heavy criticism who said mccarthy's comments is proof the benghazi committee is a political ploy. there are others who could unite the party, but did not endorse the candidate. his stunned colleague now left to reconsider who should take the reigns. >> we have two candidates for speaker. my guess is there will be more jumping in. >> boehner has cancelled his appearance on a late-night talk show tonight. he says he will stay on until the house can elect a new speaker. in washington, abc 7 news. >> thank you so much.

80 degree days. >> we'll call this mostly impressive. let's take a look at live doppler 7 hd. you can see just how impressive current conditions are. sunny, high clouds around. blue angels buzzing overhead occasionally. here's a look at golden gate bridge camera where traffic is moving nicely, i might add. lots of blue sky in the background. these are our forecast issues. a little bit sticky on saturday and a bit cooler, as well. still a pleasant day. then, we'll have some warm days ahead beginning sunday and into early next week. here's a satellite radar composite image. high pressure still in control there. strong ridge of high pressure. it's fwringing in a few mid and high level clouds. again, skies are mainly clear. now, let's take a look at the tropical pacific with a post-tropical storm is still moving north over the pacific waters. maximum sustained winds right now, 70 miles per hour.

it's not posing any direct threat to land area threat as it moves north up towards the gulf in the next day or two. it could be a significant rainstorm and then into a little bit of southeastern corner of alaska. back to the bay area, here's our three-day fleet week weekend out look. it remains warm tomorrow with highs inland, near 80 degrees. little bit cooler saturday, becomes more humid as well. then, on sunday, warms up again to around 90 in our inland areas. low 70s and upper 60s on the coast. so we have, still, some summer-like weather over the weekend. and for the air show performances, complete week for tomorrow. mild conditions with mainly sunny skies here in san francisco. a mix of sun and cloud and then blue skies for the blue angels on sunday. tonight, look for mostly clear skies except for a few patches of low clouds near the coast.

then tomorrow highs will range from mid 80s to low 90s. we'll see low 80s. mountain view, mild on the coast. in and around san francisco, mid to upper 70s. downtown san francisco tomorrow. north bay highs will be generally in the mid to upper 80s. 87 at santa rosa. 91 at cloverdale. look for about 80 degrees in oakland, low 80s in heyward. and the inlet east bay will be quite warm with upper 80s to low 90s. 92 at livermore tomorrow. 86 at san ramon. temperatures, again, will drop off just a bit on saturday. it will feel a little bit muggy, a little bit more humid. it will still be mild. mild to warm on sunday. and check out the warm-up on

a 17-year-old girl is safe after jumping out of a moving car. the girl told police she was walking to school when the female driver of a charcoal grey toyota lured her into the car and started assaulting her. police aren't saying how that suspect lured the victim into the car in the first place. the girl wasn't injured and police are still looking for the car and the suspected. >> a man working on the city's ship channel bridge dangling from a harness after losing his footing and slipping off the bridge yesterday afternoon. that harness kept him from plunging straight into the channel 16 stories below. he had to hang on there for nearly an hour until two fire fighters dropped from a manhole in the bridge and were able to pull him out to safety. >> are you having trouble styling your daughter's hair?

spencer stone's condition. he underwent surgery and is heavily sedated. >> airman stone's condition is serious. while he has sustained ig significant injuries, his care team anticipates he will make a full recovery. >> police say the suspect got away. she'll have a live report coming up on abc 7 news at 5:00. new details where police have arrested this man, robert farmer, in connection with a series of cat killings and cat nappings. county sheriffs investigators are in portland. abc 7 news reporter live on the trail where this happened with today's developments on the investigation into the death of steve carter. wayne? >> larry, this flier after the

trail will indicate the investigation is going very strongly. some interesting details. first of all, sheriff's deputies have received inquiries from many sheriff agencies. wondering if there's anything that would connect this crime with other unsolved crimes around the country. detectives have what they believe was the murder weapon. they say it was a match. they say they expected a large handgun. that's exactly what they found. there's a lot else about this story that we still don't know yet. >> up the road in portland and also continuing along the suspects known escape route. >> they almost appear o be lost souls. >> the three remain something of a mystery. they lacked any traditional forms of identification. >> all three of these people seem to be living, shall we say, off the radar?

and two school board members say they would love to bring it here to the bay area. >> learning how to ride a bike is one of the afterskoon programs. but not every child is enrolled. in contest, all washington, d.c. public schools are teaching seventh graders how to master bicycling. that district received enough donations to secure 1,000 bicycles that will rotate to every elementary school. every kid is skppted to learn during a four-week long period. educators during a conference in washington, d.c. >> they said they would support this kind of program.
