who came after them with a knife in a bizarre and unrelated twist while they searched for two missing brothers. our reporter is in the newsroom. the kids are home safe? >> they are. 11 and 12-year-old daniel and charles mccarthy were found safe before midnight. the sheriff credits abc7 with hoping in the search effort. several called to report the boys were walking in the east bay and the tips helped crews locate the boys as they were heading to their dad post house in newark. the brothers were missing around 7:00 from the home in rural castro valley and deputies searched the area around old dublin road and they say a transient man charged at them with a large knife. deputies toll the man to stop and he did not so they opened fire. he is expected to survive. he is in the hospital. ought missing children investigation is complete and the children are reunited now we have to figure out why a person
