broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> now at 11:00, uber is an app many people have on their smartphones, but one san francisco woman says requesting a ride turned into a terrifying experience when her driver threatened to rape and kill her. good evening. i'm ama daetz. dan ashley is off. alyssa harrington is live outside the park police station in san francisco tonight with our story. alyssa, are passengers still getting that the driver's car? >> no, that driver is no longer with uber. the company de activated his account. police don't know who this person is and have not made an arrest. they just wrapped up dinner with colleagues when she summoned an uber to take her home. the driver could not find her. >> they said i am at 400dubois

avenue and you're not here. he was swearing at me. >> now frightened she canceled the trip. the furious driver would not leave. >> if you see that ramp there, he started pulling up on to that ramp. he came around the corner at that point and he started screaming i can see you on your phone. look over. you can see me. i hung up the phone. he called back. at that point he said i am going to find you and rape you and i am going to kill you. >> he left this voicemail. >> cancel the trip, what kind of human are you? cancel the trip so you can work. >> she contacted police, but it is difficult to track the driver down. only his first name and a picture. and she is not con vensed it is him showed up. an uber spokesman apologized saying it is unacceptable and the driver's access 20* uber has been permanently removed.

patients to be loaded. tonight some of the seniors are back home and others are waiting to return. melanie is live in burlingame with the new details. melanie? >> most of these seniors are here and asleep for the night. as you said many more are not here. there is still about 50 to 60 residents that are staying elsewhere who will have to make their way back here eventually. right now employees inside are calling the residents family members. as for what's next, the ceo here says they will be reviewing their evacuation plan and the fire chief says the state and county will be looking at whether a back up generator was compliant. >> often wondered what would happen if it was an earthquake or disaster. now i know. >> as 70 burlingame long-term care center residents were loaded to ambulances bob edwards waited. >> i am the last to go i guess. >> the destination, san mateo

medical center and other skilled nursing facilities. this after a morning fire no bigger than a shoe box according to the fire chief. the preliminary cause was an over loaded circuit. the real issue foreclose to 300 elderly residents was a lack of electricity. >> we didn't know when the power would come back on or if it would at all. >> a back up generator in place wasn't enough to keep it running, but it was just enough to keep first responders from having to carry residents down from the second floor. >> we had the elevators there so it helped. >> san francisco fire department brought out its mass casualty buses. and just as four ambulance strike teams loaded up the last few critical residents to transport, the power came back on. bringing with it at least 15 residents who were still in transit elsewhere for the night. >> we feel they can be best cared for here. >> one man came back by taxi.

bob edwards never did have to go. >> i am not trying to avoid it. it is just how it happens. >> leaving him with a story to tell his wife along with any future residents. in burling -- burlingame, melanie woodrow. >> now to a big rig back up on a busy southern california roadway. trucks have no where to go after the day luge of water forced a state highway north of los angeles to shutdown. now traffic is backed up for miles. passengers are strappedded -- stranded and the state could step in to get everything back to normal. >> an artery is closed. highway 58 is expected to remain shutdown after 200 vehicles were trapped in up to 50 feet of mud and debris. josh and his son are trying to get to hollister to visit family. they have been on the road for 24 hours. >> we left vegas about 5:00 yesterday. we are trying to visit family in norcal.

we hit the 58 and got stuck there about 7:00 and we thought thought -- they said it would be an hour. turns out we spent the night in the car. >> conditions are improving on i-5 with the help of the chp the cars are once again moving on the grapevine. that's the main roadway linking northern and southern california. the crews with the heavy equipment spent all morning and afternoon scraping mud and debris off i-5. the reopening couldn't come soon enough for truckers. >> you are trying to get to vie vie -- visaillia. >> i was supposed to be there on monday? >> this is costing you a lot. >> yes. yesterday i was stuck on the highway. >> this all started late yesterday after a sea of mud rushed through communities 60 miles north of los angeles. the debris engulfed cars and put drivers in danger. >> are we stuck?

>> a los angeles county supervisor is calling for a state of emergency for northern los angeles county because of all of the flooding. the traffic is moving again on a santa barbara county highway after flash flooding struck dozens of vehicles. this is from the santa barbara officer and about a hundred cars were stuck at one time including a school bus. taking a live look outside right now from our kgo roof cam, there is a chance of showers this weekend in our accu-weather forecast. here is sandhya patel with live doppler 7hd. >> let's take a look at the system on live doppler 7hd. the cold front is well off the coast still. and this system is actually going to be coming in from the west. it doesn't have the same dynamic as the last system. here is the cold front and it is working its way toward the bay area. so far the radar returns are off the northern california coast. none of this is actually reaching the area yet. it is about 70 miles from eureka.

we are going to see some of the showers and there is even a possibility of an isolated thunderstorm. i'll let you know what part of your weekend will be wet. look at the time line coming up. >> look forward to that. thank you, sandhya. an east bay mud utility crew found themselves in a sinkhole that they were sent to fix. look at these photos sent in by jennifer lombardi. she reported a river of gushing water that was carrying away chunks of the pavement. when crews arrived they found out how serious the situation was. >> i came out here and there was a wheel down. >> water officials say a cast iron watermain built in 1931 caused the the sinkhole. the main has been replaced and the sinkhole has been filled. work continues to repair -- workers continue to repair another gaping sinkhole in union city. the hole has steady grown to its current size of 30 tiff feet by by -- 35 feet by 40 feet. when it was discovered on

wednesday it was 6 feet by 6 feet. repairs should be done sometime next week. the city doesn't know what caused the sinkhole to form. a sniper attack at a critical piece of bay area infrastructure. still ahead on abc news at 11:00, the feds have a new theory on what really happened. and it is common for bay area real estate to fetch more than a million dollars. what about free? and a blast from the past. the flight farewell from sfo that had this woman in a mad men era draft. and then what is coming up on jimmy jimmy kim mill live. this is abc7 news. >> sky 7hd shows us where a fire drove people from their homes in san francisco's inner richmond district. it broke out near gary boulevard. crews stopped the thrapples -- stopped the flames. they shared video of the fire. remember when you see breaking news where you live send us photos with the hash tag abc7 news. a new theory surfaced that a costly attack on a pg and e substation was an inside job. it took out parts of silicon valley after hitting transformers. media reports cited a top homeland security official as suggesting an insider was responsible. the fbi said there is a, quote, significant gap between

what was said and what was reported. agents haven't identified a motive or any success ect -- suspects. >> sfo is taking part in airline history tonight. the final u.s. airways flight took off a little more than an hour ago. abc7 news reporter alan wang talked to some of the passengers on the flight and joins us live from sfo. >> there were people who flew into san francisco just to get on this historic last flight. there were also more than 2,000 people on stand by. many of them just wanted the final boarding pass that showed the flight number 1939 designated for the year the airline began. the rase u.s. airways crew -- the last u.s. airways crew prepared to fly after a history in aviation that began in 1939. all-american aviation was its name back then. >> in 1939 they used the

in san francisco, alan wang, abc7 news. this house will move to a new location on sunday morning. they of on erred it -- they offered it for free as long as they cover the moving costs. right now it sits on land owned by the hospital. they called for a new building on the site. a couple will put the house on the property a block away and the move will cost them $200,000. it is time for a check on our forecast. as we head into the weekend -- >> the weekend is not going to be a washout. we need the rain and it is only going to fall tomorrow. let's show you live doppler 7hd and we are seeing quite a bit of cloudiness pushing over the bay. earlier this afternoon you do eastbound are the thunderstorms that developed across santa bar raw county. the santa barbara county thunderstorms had the mudslides and the debris flow. now we look at where the threat of flooding was shifting as the next system

comes in. it will be in the eastern portion of california going into parts of nevada that does include las vegas. 50s and 60s and antioch is holding on at seven-day forecast 1. the coolest readings are in the north bay in the mid50s. we have a lovely view of the financial district, the trans america pyramid. spotty showers tomorrow. isolated thunder possible in the afternoon and a sunnier sunday with warmer conditions into next week. satellite-radar showing the system that has been stalled out. it is finally starting to shift off. it brought the rain to southern california and santa barbara county. the next system is coming in and it will produce a few scattered light showers. what does it mean some may see clouds and showers. here is drizzle developing with the scattered showers coming for the latter part of the morning. at noontime you will see a few

showers develop and could even see a thunderstorm. you will notice in the east bay we can't rule that out. most of the activity is shifting to the south bay and uhen it is out of here pretty quickly. if you have morning games where your kids are going to soccer and baseball practice it may be a little on the slippery side. temperatures in the 50s and 60s with the cloud cover and a little drizzle developing. and then for the afternoon here is how it will look. a few showers in the south bay. 76 san jose. 80 in gilroy. 76 santa clara. it will be a cooler day just like everywhere else. 74 in redwood city. menlo park. 64 in pacifica. downtown san francisco 68. 64 in daly city. cloud cover is heavier and the high pressure t -- and the temperatures go down. 74 vallejo and 703 oakland and union city. fremont mid70s. you are not even in the 80s like you were today. 79 in livermore.
