current size of 35 feet by 40 feet and it's ten feet deep in some places. when it was first discovered on wednesday the sinkhole was only 6 feet by 6 feet. repairs should be done sometime next week. the city does not know what caused the sinkhole to form. san francisco international airport took part in airline history. the final u.s. airways night took off from the airport last night. abc7 news reporter alan wang talked to the passengers on that flight. >> the last u.s. airways crew prepared to fly their passengers from sfo to philadelphia after a history of aviation that began in 1989. all american aviation was its name back then. >> 1939 we started picking up the mail, as single air plans flew over. we went through world war ii, korea, 911. >> 180 passengers took the historic flight, including

a muni bus pass may be your ticket to see some spectacular dance performances this weekend in san francisco. yesterday abc7 news was at the bay view boat club for the start of trolley dances. they are spread out along the mission bay and bayview neighborhood. visitors are given a bus pass to catch them all. >> they will set their pieces to the environment that the performance occurs in. that's what makes trolley dances so different. >> the performances are free and will take place along the t-moon it i line. the tours begin at 11:00 a.m. and leave every 45 minutes from the bay view boat club both today and tomorrow. the month of october has another name around these parts, sharktobe are. >> this may seem like bad timing for swimmers to plan a race across the bay. as jonathan bloom explains, today's escape from alcatraz

doesn't look like it's going to make it but we have to keep it in the forecast for the arest of today. a closer look at sea ranch at stewart's point, sky springs road. starting to see a little moisture moving in. ahead of this system do expect it to be a bit on the misty, drizzly side. our view from the golden gate bridge camera visibility is good right now. scattered showers today. isolated thunder is possible. as we head into sunday mild and mostly sunny skies are expected. here's the satellite radar. low pressure system that brought some flooding rain to santa barbara county yesterday is heading out. here's what's going to replace it. the cold front is moving toward the coastline here and already the northern portion of the state is seeing the rain. we will see eventually start to sea a few showers especially in the north bay as we head toward the latter part of the morning. scattered showers developing. very spotty at 7:00 a.m.. if you have early planed to keep that in mind. then as we head toward the afternoon hours around lunchtime you might be grabbing something to eat. we will keep those showers in

where you live. good morning, good morning, thunderstorms in the sierra. we now have a line of showers beginning to approach the sonoma county coastline. so ukiah is starting to report the cloud cover. showers should be arriving anytime between sea ranch around highway 1 we starting to see some returns. so it is starting to get wet. rainfall amounts are not expected to be heavy unless you are caught under one of the thunderstorms here in the bay area if it develops. certainly those thunderstorms, as i mentioned, in the mountains. so if you are heading up to tahoe you will want to keep this in mind. we will keep it in the forecast today. 60 degrees there. 77 yosemite. mostly cloudy down south in los angeles. 81 degrees and 61 with showers up in eureka. here in the bay area you are looking at high temperatures that will run lower than yesterday. it will be a cooler day with quite a bit of cloud cover. mid-to upper 60s coastside. upper 70s inland. and you will see a few showers for your saturday afternoon. accuweather seven-day forecast will indicate that by saturday evening we are dry. and we will keep that dry

parents. and children being treated for life-threatening illnesses. the newest facility is inside the new ussf children's hospital in san francisco. abc7 news anchor cheryl jennings takes us there to meet the woman who led the campaign for the second house and the family that got the help they needed for their very sick child. >> he has an upper airway structure, can't swallow. there was damage when he was born. >> they drove from their home in the san joaquin valley to talk to us about their son benjamin and why they are so grateful to the ronald mcdonald house of san francisco. they recently stayed in the brand new house in at the knew children's hospital in mission bay where little benjamin was being treated for health and breathing problems. he was born two months early. mom and dad both served in the u.s. army with tours of duty in iraq but they fought the battle of a lifetime after the

pregnancy suffered a terrible complication called pre-ecclapsia. >> i was standing in the same room as my mom and dad was when my mom fainted. >> they did an emergency c-section. >> he was then transferred to the children's hospital and the family learned about the ronald mcdonald house inside the hospital. there they could be close to their baby, have a real bed and a hot meal prepared by volunteers, do laundry and get support. they stay here and then transition to the ronald mcdonald house on scotts street. >> you realize you are not alone and you sit down and have meals together and you see people and you talk to them. you actually form a lot of friendships. >> the ronald mcdonald street on scott street was always full. one thing that needed to change was we needed to do something that would eliminate a waiting

list. >> she has been executive director of the san francisco ronald mcdonald house on scott street for ten years. they led the capital campaign to raise $8 million for the mission bay house. >> we just remodeled the kitchen. abc7's mike niko helped the house with fundraising for years. he caught up with lois at the scott street location. >> we began to think, you know, offering the best of ronald mcdonald house inside the hospital would be a good idea. >> she introduced pioneering programs. we send volunteers, an army of volunteers. >> ucsf staff began lacking at what we were doing. one day said would you like to talk about having a house inside of the hospital? >> the architect designed the

that the the system we have been watching the lift couple of days that brought the flooding rains to southern california. it's heading out. here is what is moving in. a cold front. the problem with the cold front is there isn't a lot of moisture to work with. this is come in from the northwest. that system that we had a couple days ago was tapping into subtropical moisture. that the the biggest difference between the two. as a result the cold front is not going to produce a lot of rain in the bay area. where it does fall it will be either trace amounts or not much the all, under .1-inch. we have the mist and drizzle. 7:00 a.m. we are looking at scattered showers. as we head through the afternoon hours a few showers will develop , basically very scattered and the cloud cover heavy. can't rule out an isolated thunderstorm as the front forces a lift in the atmosphere and the sun is heating the air. keep that in mind. scattered showers will continue as we head toward about 4:00, 5:00. by 7:00 p.m. it's all long gone
