coricidin. it can cause, among other thing, hallucinations. abc 7 news reporter joins us from one of the schools with that warning for parents. leigh anne? >> it was certainly a rude awakening for some parents after receiving an e-mail from their schools combining cough syrup cough medication with certain soft drinks isn't new in some cities across the nation, but apparently, it is here. >> yes, it's happened during the school day. >> three students were recently sent to the hopt after feeling sick. two other students from drake high were also treated. school o i shall ifs say the students had abused a cold medication called coricidin. it comes in pill or syrup form. >> it's known as triple c on the street. at extremes, it has the same effect as angel dust, which is a ha lewllucinoge luhallucinogeni.

>> people often combine the syrup with a soft drink like sprite. rappers like lil'wayne have been known to glorify the drink with more potent. >> a 2000 survey done found that one in 30 teens reported abusing it to get high. >> in high doesz, it causes a lot of issues, including at worse, seizures. >> and in rare cases, even death. all five schools have sent out letters to parents notifying them of the dangers of the drug. >> and according to the school district, students typically find the cough medicine at home or have been known to steal it from the store. >> an 8-year-old boy with autism

from heyward has been reunited with his parents a after he went missing from his parents today causing some terribly anxious moments. abc 7 news reporter vick lee joins us now live from the school. >> reporter: well, larry, that is the soccer field sh -- the school soccer field behind me. that's where the eight-year-old boy was when he suddenly darted off the field. both his father and the superintendent say that boy can really run. >> very happy with the police and the county sheriff's office. we're very glad to have our son back. >> there were lots of hugs when police brought the 8-year-old boy and his mother back to school after fighting him about a mile and a half to two miles down the hill.

white says his son apparently got angry and dashed off the soccer field at about 10:30 this morning during p.e. the superintendent told abc 7 news the boy likes to run and hide. heyward police and fire and sheriff's deputies began searching the area. sky 7 hd was overhead. about three hours later, police located him at mcdonalds. he went to mcdonalds to get a happy meal. so we know that he's in good spirits. >> we don't know how he managed to walk about two miles without being seen. we can't understand it at all. >> it was a happy ending. complete with a mcdonalds happy meal.

vick lee, abc 7 news. >> we have some developing in san francisco where several police agencies are searching for two men in mission bay. heavily armed officers combed that property. san francisco police and the highway patrol are helping them. they're wanted in connection with an open investigation they did not elaborate. sky 7 hd did show one person being taken into police custody. but it is not clear whether that individual was connected with the ins dents. >> san jose police department fired an officer who got into hot water over tweets about the black lives matter moment. our report is that phillip white has been terminated. one of them said tleeten me or my family and i will use my god

determine the cause of a big fire this morning. it broke out at 5:00 a.m. the intense flames coupled with the possibility of the facade collapsing kept firefighters out of the building. firefighters say they have identified where the fire started, but not how yet. >> it appeared to be in the barber shop. crews arrived on scene and immediately started fire attack. >> the barblear shop was destroyed. three neighboring distances have suffered smoke and water damage. >> police in san francisco say an argument over a cabbie honking his horn led to assault. a cab driver told police he was honking his horn to get the attention of the people he was picking up.
