hurricane ever recorded in the western hemisphere and now warnings of catastrophic landfall. >> american tourists trapped in mexico and the airport in puerta vallarta shut down this morning and they are working quickly to sandbag the coast, board up those windows. ginger starts us off. this is a big one. >> this hurricane detonated overnight. i mean exploding into so many records and we can see the eye right there. so it's central western mexico we're concerned about. that path takes it right between puerta vallarta and manzanillo. not only winds greater than 200 miles per hour but storm surges on the right side. up to 20 inches of rain comes along with this. get it into the mountains, still have flooding out there and starts to die out over central mexico but the moisture does not. that's where we run into a problem. we've seen flash flooding with another storm in texas, so we've got flash flood watches from laredo to dallas and now dallas on alert and that's where our rob marciano is this morning for the second round. >> good morning, ginger.

a bit of a dry spot but it's been coming down heavily in the dallas area. flash flood watches and advisories remain up already at the airport. 99 cancellations and the sun barely is up. clearly though last 24 hours the hardest hit areas have been the western part of the state. overnight, storms sweeping across texas. skies illuminating from continuous bolts of lightning. vehicles stalled out from drivers making some poor decisions. this pickup pushing a car through flooded streets. >> it's floating. >> and in the town of ramkin. >> there she goes and the rv. >> reporter: new video showing the impact. of two days of heavy rain. trailers picked up and carried away in floodwaters. we expect more scenes across texas as this event continues to unfold. this is a the trinity river. we were here in may during the floods covering this area.

since then we have been in a drought but like southern california and south carolina residents know you can go from drought to flash flooding in a hurry. ginger. >> rob, thank you. the national weather service in san antonio actually just put out a statement saying up to 15 inches of rain this coming weekend so that could be also very disastrous. so much more coming up. >> they have a lot to brace for in texas. okay, ginger, thanks very much. now to hillary clinton's showdown on capitol hill. more than eight hours of testimony. republicans saying they were doing their duty to investigate a serious security breach. democrats complaining it's a waste of money after seven previous congressional investigations. abc's jon karl on point over a long day. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, george. this hearing went on so long, 11 hours including the breaks, that by the end, clinton supporters were tweeting with the #freehillary. republicans raised serious questions about security at benghazi but clinton emerged largely unscathed. the unprecedented grilling of a presidential candidate lasted into the night.

>> parliamentary inquiry, how late are we going tonight? >> so far today i've said good morning, good afternoon -- >> you all serving breakfast, congressman. >> let me go ahead and say good night. >> reporter: an 11-hour hearing of intense questioning, the occasional break for water, even a cough drop. plenty of partisan bickering. >> there are people, frankly, in both parties who have suggested that this investigation is about you. let me assure you it is not. >> we're better than that and we're better than using taxpayer dollars to try to destroy a campaign. >> reporter: there was political theater with props including piles of clinton's much discussed personal e-mail. >> libya, benghazi, chris stevens, the staff there, they seem to fall off your radar in 2012 and the situation is getting much worse in 2012. >> if you were to be in my office in the state department i didn't have a computer. i did not do the vast majority of my work on e-mail. >> reporter: the underlying

issue, of course, was serious. republicans repeatedly asking, why the state department had denied several requests for more security in the months before the 2012 attack in benghazi. >> you had two ambassadors that made several, several requests and here's basically what happened to their requests. they were torn up. >> well, that's just not true, congressman. many were responded to. >> reporter: throughout the day-long testimony a confident clinton showed a wide range of emotions. sometimes frustrated. >> that was a very long question and i think the answer is no. >> reporter: at other times appearing bored or amused by the spectacle. >> okay, and who else was at your home? were you alone? >> i was alone, yes. >> the whole night? >> well, yes, the whole night. >> i don't know why that's funny. i mean did you have any in-person briefings? i don't find it funny at all. >> i'm sorry. a little note of levity at 7:15. >> reporter: when reflecting on

the loss of four americans killed including ambassador chris stevens, clinton was emotional. >> i've lost more sleep than all of you put together. i have been racking my brain about what more could have been done. >> reporter: now back to the campaign trail. she has a rally in virginia in afternoon and tomorrow we'll see clinton's campaign, bill clinton's campaign trail debut and join hillary in iowa at a rally that also features katy perry. >> thanks, jon. we are joined by republican presidential candidate carly fiorina. thank you for joining us this morning. miss fiorina. so, hillary getting pretty good reviews even from some conservatives. a "new york post" reporter calls it an unmitigated triumph. the washington examiner saying the hearing turned out to be no big deal. good news for hillary clinton. what's your take? >> i think she did reasonably well. i think it demonstrates that she won't be held accountable until

we have a nominee and a general election debate who will hold her accountable. she never answered a fundamental question and the fundamental question is this, knowing that this was a purposeful terrorist attack on the night it occurred why did you go the next morning and address the american people and talk about a videotape that didn't represent the values of america and why did you continue to do that over the bodies of the fallen and for many weeks thereafter? she referenced in her testimony other terrorist attacks and the difference, of course, was in those other terrorist attacks the administration immediately came out and said, this is a terrorist attack and we will seek retribution. mrs. clinton never said that. >> you say she wasn't held accountable so did republicans on the committee fall down on the job? >> well, you know, i think there were lots of democrats on that committee who were focused very much on salvaging their nominee in this regard and i have to say, i'm sure that there are republicans and democrats who were politically motivated but i think trey gowdy has done a

superb job of being a very careful examiner here. and if you just do a little thought exercise, if the shoe were on the other foot and she had been a republican secretary of state i'm sure the democrats would be holding hearings. >> you got a big bounce after the last debate. let's talk about your campaign but now dropped back to the middle of the pack and there's a series of headlines questioning what happened to carly fiorina? what's your answer to that? >> oh, wow, george, you know, you're a political pro so you know we're 100 days out and remember when i launched my campaign on may 4th, on your show, as a matter of fact, nobody gave me a chance including perhaps you. first august 6th debate i wasn't on the stage. the second debate i had to fight my way on the stage. at this third debate i'm number four on the stage so i'm feeling good about my momentum, actually. >> how are you going to get it back? >> oh, i've never lost it. i'm in the middle of the pack. someone that no one gave any chance to, frankly. so i'm feeling very good about our ground game. very good about the momentum

that we have in key states and, of course, we have another debate coming up. i remain the least well-known candidate on the field. 40% of republican voters still don't know who i am so i still have a long way to introduce myself to the american people but what all the polling data shows is that when people see me for the first time they want to know more about me and when they see me for the second or the third time, that translates into support and that's why we have so much momentum. >> meantime, ben carson is really surging. new "des moines register" poll puts him ahead. second poll in a row showing him ahead. he and donald trump sucking up majority support. what does that tell you about what republican voters are looking for? >> well, you know what it tells me, george, what you and i talked about on may 4th. you asked a question, was my -- the fact that i never held a political office a liability an i answered you and said, no, it's a huge asset because the reality is most voters, democrats, independents and republicans, are sick of the professional political class. >> carly fiorina, thanks very

much for your time this morning. >> thanks, george. let's bring jon karl back and, jon, i mentioned that "des moines register" poll showing ben carson surging to the lead in iowa. >> yeah, and what's significant here, george, is it's also the second poll that shows donald trump not in the lead for three solid months trump has led in every major poll, nationally and in every poll in the early states. now you have two back-to-back polls showing that he is no longer the front-runner in iowa, the big factor there, george, evangelical christian, only a third of iowa republicans in that poll thought he is a committed christian. >> okay, jon karl, thanks very much. more on the race for president and the benghazi hearing sunday on "this week." >> all right, george, now to a daring hostage rescue that left one american commando dead and saved dozens of prisoners held in iraq by isis. we've seen the brutal terror group release execution videos online and these prisoners were just hours away from being the latest victims. abc's martha raddatz is in the region with all the details. good morning, martha.

>> reporter: good morning, amy. this is the first u.s. combat death since the u.s. began battling isis last year and the first death since president obama declared the war in iraq over in 2011. it was a nighttime rescue that quickly turned deadly. five u.s. helicopters carrying u.s. special operations forces and kurdish troops descended on a prison compound in northern iraq. inside, isis hostages believed to be facing imminent mass execution. u.s. air strikes had cleared roads and nearby buildings to prevent reinforcement but as soon as the rescue teams approached master sergeant joshua wheeler 39 was shot and later died. 70 iraqi hostages were rescued and the kurds say 20 isis fighters killed. but the battle is raising

questions about the role u.s. troops play in iraq after president obama had said u.s. troops would not be in a combat role. >> our mission in iraq is to train, advise and assist mission. they have the right to defend themselves, those u.s. forces, but this was a unique circumstance. >> reporter: the pentagon says in this case, lives were at risk. although it does not appear the u.s. knew who the hostages were or how many there were. george. >> okay, martha, thanks very much. that footage she showed looks like combat. new trouble for the secret service. two officers caught sleeping on the job one at the white house and abc's pierre thomas covers the secret service and the bad stories just keep piling up. >> reporter: good morning, george. yes, they do much the secret service hoped to turn the page on negative headlines after successfully protecting the pope but with this new embarrassment critics say not so fast. two uniformed officers caught sleeping on the job. one while on duty at a foreign diplomat's residence.

the other at the white house. a new inspector general management alert claims inadequate staffing and scheduling played a role in the officer fatigue and may pose an immediate or potential danger to u.s. secret service officers and those whom they protect. >> this unfortunately was not just one or two people falling asleep on the job. it's a consequence of bad management. >> reporter: but the secret service objects saying the officers were disciplined and that the sleeping officers and only them were at fault. it's been a difficult stretch of headlines for the secret service. >> right now. >> reporter: that fence jumper got inside the white house. this following allegations of excessive drinking and a prostitution scandal. some secret service officials believe the unrelenting scrutiny is unfair but others say it comes with the territory protecting the leader of the free world. amy. >> all right, pierre, thanks so much. stunning words from the judge in that new mexico road rage killing. that story in just 30 seconds.

the alleged killer in that road rage incident that left a 4-year-old girl dead is behind bars this morning. the judge calling it one of the worst crimes he's ever seen. abc's ryan owens has that story. >> do you have any questions about anything i've said? >> no, sir. >> reporter: those are the only two words uttered by the accused killer of lilly garcia but the judge had plenty to say to tony torrez. >> this is possibly one of the most wanton and atrocious acts alleged in the history of this city.

>> reporter: he confessed to the shooting which prosecutors say happened when the accused murderer cut off lilly's father alan on interstate 40 in albuquerque forcing him out of his lane. torrez allegedly pulled out a gun and fired four shots at his truck. one of them striking 4-year-old lilly in the head. >> she would grab your heart. she's going to be missed by a lot of people. >> reporter: in court prosecutors detailed torrez's violent criminal history which includes another arrest for road rage. court documents show he pulled a gun on a driver in 2006. that case was dismissed. >> the daughter is not conscious. >> reporter: police say at torrez's home they found the red toyota they've been looking for in the garage as well as the gun they say was used to kill lilly. for "good morning america," ryan owens, abc news, albuquerque, new mexico. >> just beyond tragic, thank you. and now we turn to tom llamas with the other top stories starting with a deadly shooting on a campus in tennessee.

>> this time it's happening in nashville on the campus of tennessee state university. a 19-year-old man who did not attend the school was killed. three female students who were passing by were wounded and the shooter is still at large. witnesses say an argument broke out during a dice game before someone opened fire. pretty sad. also breaking overseas at least 42 people killed after a bus and truck collided in southwestern france near the city of bordeaux. both vehicles instantly caught fire. the bus was carrying retirees on a day trip. one less democrat running for presidents this morning. lincoln chafee is ending his campaign. he was marginalized in the race and less than 1% in the polls. his decision leaves bernie sanders and martin o'malley as hillary clinton's only challengers. one of the most sophisticated drug tums found

the james bond star sharing some strong words about his character and his future bond plans. that's ahead in "the speed feed" complete with some bleeps. >> he seems to be acting out a little. >> okay. that is coming up. we begin with the florida church drummer killed by a plainclothes police officer after his car broke down. hundreds gathering for a rally outside the police department and the family of cory jones demanding answers while their attorney reveals new details about the deadly encounter. gio benitez with more. >> reporter: it's filled with mystery. there were no witnesses, no dash cam video and no body cam video. the only two who know what happened, the officer and the dead musician. this morning, emotions running high much the family of cory jones a 31-year-old musician killed by an undercover officer on the side of a highway pleading for answers. >> he would not ever, ever, ever, ever, ever pull a gun on a police. >> officer nouman raja was driving an unmarked car at the

time of the shooting. now attorneys for jones' family say prosecutors told them he never displayed a badge. >> why didn't he identify himself? why didn't he show the badge? >> reporter: officer raja telling police this -- >> he stopped to investigate what he believed to be an abandoned vehicle. he was suddenly confronted by an armed subject. >> reporter: jones did have a gun. but his family's attorney says he had a concealed weapons license and that he never fired his weapon. the family says they were told the officer fired his gun six times striking jones three times. >> it's very troubling on many, many levels why he felt the need to shoot cory those many times. >> reporter: jones' family says his car broke down early sunday morning after performing at a show seen in this video. his brother saying he spoke to him just 20 minutes before he died. >> his brother offered to come and get him. he said, no, i really need my

car because i have to perform in church with the choir the next morning. >> reporter: the family desperate to know more. >> i need to know why, why is my son gone today? why. >> and the family says they were told that at one point cory jones ran. his body was found 80 to 100 feet away from his car. the gun was found somewhere in between. officer raja is now on paid leave. prosecutors won't confirm or deny what the family revealed but, george, they say they are investigating. >> i'll bet they are. gio, thanks very much. dan abrams here right now. they're investigating but this has to be so tough to investigate. no independent eyewitness. >> you got certain details we may never know for certain. one of the most important questions, how clearly did he identify himself as a police officer? we're never going to know. we'll get his account and the polices account of it but he's the only witness. did he have a badge that he

presented. now, he may admit i didn't have my badge with me. we'll have to see but those are the sores of questions we may never know the answer to. the legal question, what would a reasonable police officer have done in a situation -- >> how significant that cory jones did appear to have a gun? you saw that account of what his lawyers say was found somewhere away from the body. >> he had a gun so there are other things we will be able to know. meaning the ballistics and the crime scene investigation will be able to tell us a lot as to where was he shot? does it seem he was running away. was his gun truly not found anywhere near his body? was he really 80 yards away from the car and if so, why was he so far away from the car? was the police officer chasing him? i mean, those are going to be the sorts of things that ballistics will be able to tell us a lot about, looking at the crime scene, this will be able to tell us a lot about and those will be the critical questions. >> one of those cases where a body cam could have made a big difference. >> it can make a big difference and answer a lot of questions and i think no matter how you look at this case i don't think this police officer is going to

come and say in retrospect this needed to happen because it seems he was on the side of the road of the he was broken down and something happened where somebody misinterpreted something there. >> dan abrams, thanks very much. all right, and now to the sex scandal rocking the university of louisville's basketball team and legendary head coach rick pitino. the hall-of-famer coming under fire but vowing he will not resign. abc's ryan smith is here with that story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. louisville coach rick pitino playing some defense by going on the offense blogging his thoughts on the escorts for recruit scandal embroiling his program and doing what he calls is the wise thing to do, not fighting these accusations but rather turning the other cheek. head coach rick pitino of the college basketball powerhouse louisville cardinals taking to his blog amidst allegations that the team hired female escorts to woo recruits writing i'm sorry we all have to endure the pain of these allegations. but despite the public outcry for him to step down he says, i

will not resign and let you down. >> if they wanted to make extra money that's what the side deal was. sex. >> reporter: pitino's public statement coming days after the self-proclaimed madam at the center of the controversy katina powell spoke exclusively to espn's john barr. to talk about her new tell-all "breaking cardinal rules." she says she attended 22 parties claiming she and several other women, including three of her own daughters participated in sex acts with recruits, team members and even some of their fathers. pitino denying the allegations from the start. >> i don't blow in any form of cheating at all and to get an advantage with a recruit. >> if louisville feels violations were occurred, the head coach can be, can be found responsible. >> reporter: it's not the first time pitino has come under fire. in 2009 he made headlines when a woman he admitted to having

supplements spiked with dangerous drugs. abc's t.j. holmes is here with the details. good morning, t.j. >> reporter: hey, good morning to you, lara. we have to remember these are not like medicines. companies do not have to prove that a supplement is safe or effective before putting it on the market. now, gnc accused of putting stuff out there that was laced with two ingredients that had no business in those bottles. this morning gnc hit with a major lawsuit, accused of knowingly selling fitness supplements advertised as all natural that were actually spiked with synthetic drugs. the oregon attorney general going after gnc for allegedly misrepresenting 22 workout and fat-burner supplements stating some contained two synthetic drugs. picamilon used to treat a variety of neurological conditions and bmpea similar to amphetamine and claiming that gnc knew both products were considered unlawful dietary supplements.

gnc has come under astronautny scrutiny before. in march they agreed to stricter testing of its herbal supplements after a new york attorney general investigation revealed some of them didn't actually contain any of the herbs on the label. companies that manufacture or sell herbal supplements have a responsibility to make sure their products contain every ingredient that's on the label and do not include ingredients that are not on the label. >> reporter: but this time, the largest retailer in the industry is fighting back. telling abc news overnight, the oregon attorney general's accusations are without merit and in response to fda statements regarding the regulatory status of bmpea and picamilon, gnc promptly took action to remove from sale all products containing those ingredients. >> all right. who here takes supplements? half of all americans do take these things. often we have no idea what's in them because they're not regulated the way medicines are.

they could face a fine of $25,000 per violation. we're talking about thousands of possible violations but that disclaimer is on every supplement you took. it says these claims have not been verified by the fda so a lot of regulation, a lot of people say should be in place. >> all right, t.j., thank you. and coming up on "good morning america," daniel craig leaving james bond fans shaken and a little stirred. what he's saying now about playing the super spy. he's really -- he's speaking out coming up in our "speed feed."

denied requests for more security before the attack but most observers say clinton emerged largely unscathed. and a sign of trouble for donald trump. two new polls show him trailing ben carson in iowa. one poll shows carson leading by nine points. a 2-year-old girl from north carolina doesn't know it now but she is very lucky. she was riding in the back of this car when it veered off the road, dangling over a pedestrian tunnel. you can see it right there. wow. the bumper was the only thing preventing it from falling off the edge with the wheels spinning. trying not to add any extra weight, a police officer gingerly worked to free the little girl reaching right into the backseat and pulling her out unharmed. tight space there. good for that officer. a baltimore couple is celebrating the rare birth of identical triplets. meet tripp, finn and ollie. great names. they were conceived the old-fashioned way -- that's good to know, which makes their birth even more unusual. the odds are as high as 1 in 2 million. wow.

the voice for all our front doors. >> you are the voice of the front door of america so let's start with the drafty door. we want to save you money on your energy bill. >> the first thing is weatherstripping. you can save over 30% of your energy with just weatherstripping alone so we'll go in here and get weatherstripping and our tape measure and we're going to get a screw gun because if you want to add a door sweep on the bottom, the first -- >> do you recommend it? >> door sweep, if you have an eighth of an inch all the way around your door right around the top, the bottom and sides, that's the equivalent to a six-inch hole in diameter in your wall. >> just air and money flowing out of your house. >> use your weatherstripping. get all different kinds, vinyl, different adhesives. >> it really isn't hard. you can go online and learn how to do it. >> peel and stiff. that's all. >> peel and stick. another really simple way to update is paint it. there's a right way and a wrong way. >> a right way to do it, so we

see our door right here. the one thing you want to make sure you start from the appropriate area which is start in the middle of the door and then -- >> all of the depressed areas. >> all of these recessed areas so start in here and work your way out so start on the center portion here, work your way out, work your way out and then you want to work on your rails and your styles. these are your rails and these verticals are your styles. >> should you paint in the direction of -- >> exactly. paint in the direction they go. the reason you do that, so many doors have so much wood grain within them and this is the most efficient way to make sure your door is going to look appropriate. >> okay. >> then you also want to make sure that you take all the hardware and that you close -- that you -- >> wrap it up? >> and you can use tin foil which is so good if you don't have painter's tape. >> do we have painter's tape? that is like my favorite thing to use for everything. >> but tin foil is so cool but then the last thing, if you want to add to your hardware if you don't want to get new hardware, you can spray paint it. what you can do really quick, you can add in your hardware,
