it's unclear where that dna came from. clear food also says 10% of all vegetarian hot dogs appear to contain meat. the company looked at 75 different brands. if you pay more, you can avoid this? they say there's no correlation between price and product. and the number of victims continues to grow in that san jose restaurant shigella outbreak. public officials say there are more 182 suspected cases in six counties, marin and merced are the latest ones joining santa clara, ama leed me da and santa cruz. most say they ate at mariscos number three and that restaurant remains closed. a boss on the whaler overturned after receiving a distress call. this video was taken.

tough to see. but crews did find the body of one man in the water about 10:30 this morning while a second man was found safe on the shore. a third man remains missing. it happened at the mouth of tomales bay. that accident killed four on a fishing trip from bodega bay. traffic is a mess right now in oakland because of a crash involving a big rig and several car. it was over 880 and hagenberger road. things have not improved much since then. the truck jackknifed then slammed into the center barrier. three northbound lanes are blocked. no estimate on when they will reopen. all those injuries are minor. the backup is so bad that the highway patrol is allowing big trucks to use 580 until further notice. trucks that weigh 4 1/2 tons are forbidden on 580 through oakland. they're trying to find out who is at fault in a head-on

crash that involved one bay area woman. five were killed in the collision between an suv and a car on highway 120 near groveland in the sierra foothill. four women were killed in the suv that was registered in san jose. we still don't know their injuries. the driver of the other car, a 22-year-old man from merced died at the scene. the second victim of a deadly shooting outside the livermore cvs remains hospitalized in critical condition. one of the suspects jason alexander brown is armed and dangerous. investigators believe a second person was in the car with brown. police have not released an i.d. on that person. authorities believe the two used an assault rifle to shoot into a car in a parking lot on first street saturday night, killing one person. brown is also wanted more murder

in fr fres no and is being investigated by police there. last night police served a warrant on brown's home, but he was not there. a san francisco woman was taken off life support over the weekend after suffering a traumatic injury stemming if an argument on a muni bus. police say nancy tynan was fighting with a man and woman on board the bus on october 15th. that argument spilled on to the street in the mission district where officers say the other woman hit tynan in the head. tynan collapsed on to the sidewalk, she never regained consciousness. her family decide to take her off life support on saturday. police say they immediately went to work looking for suspects. >> this investigation was spearheaded by our department and essentially reviewed video surveillance from muni to try to identify who the suspects are or was in this case. >> authorities arrested a woman

believed to be responsible for that attack. we don't know her identity right now. a third man was found to have no involvement in the crime. the suspect being held in county jail on manslaughter charges. a child chase in san francisco ended on the bay bridge and left the victim in a financial jam. >> reporter: that treasure island resident got sent to the hospital, was released saturday. this morning he was able to get his car back. he wants to know how it's possible that someone was able to steal a police vehicle and get into this accident. this is video you will see only on abc 7 news. 26-year-old randall maka pirks, t was arrested after leading officers on a chase in a stolen patrol vehicle. he faces carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

moments before this arrest, he rear-ended mohammed tijani's clalgdz cadillac then attempted to ran away. >> this is where the gentleman jumped over my vehicle. >> reporter: tijani was sent to the hospital. his car was towed to an impound lot in daly city. the rear end is badly damaged and the bills are starting to stack up. he's still trying to understand why makapit was able to steal the police cruiser in first place. >> to have your key running in the ignition while pursuing a criminal, i believe that's negligence. >> reporter: police say they were called to the marina district because makapit was waving a knife. he hopped in the police cruiser before they could arrest him. during a news conference on mental health services in the city, the mayor said they're lucky this situation wasn't worse including for the suspect. >> all the things he did, including crashing into, what was it, seven different vehicles at the time would have ven taken

new grading system just started this year. they say they're lowering the bar and doing a disservice to students while the district insists it's motivating kids to do better. abc 7 reporter. >> reporter: it's interesting to see how they can be with the new curriculum h curriculums, the school district wanted to experiment with several of these grading systems. so far the results have been mixed. ever notice how in school an "a" grade has a ten-point range meaning 90 to 100. it applies to an a, b, c, and d, but not an f. f has a 60 point range. they're now using a modified grading scale that treats an f somewhat differently. all failing grades have a floor of 50. you can never get below that. >> so this is that area that

we're talking about, where students can be in afá deep hol. what we're saying is, okay, we don't want you so deep in this hole that you can never pass. >> the school districts believe by eliminating that huge gap students will be more motivated to work harder to increase their grades. but some parents believe the district is lowering the bar. >> the kids can show up, they get their 50 and then they're done. >> an f is an f is an f. while it's still an f, the parents say students should get what they earn. new grading systems including one that's based on a points scale. most teachers are stopped using it. on this test the student received a c minus after getting only 85 out of 200. the superintendent told us the student should have gotten an f. >> and we're kind of on a learning curve. but we're seeing benefits with the students and their increased

passengers are calling a british airways pilot a hero after he managed to land their plane in south africa without any landing gear. when the plane landed in

johannesburg this morning, the left landing gear of that 737 collapsed. one passenger says the jet skidded down did runway for about 20 seconds before the plane nearly slid into a side spin. thankfully, the 100 passengers and crew on board are all fine. what a story. transportation officials will soon ban e-cigarettes and other battery operated smoking devices from checked bags. it is going into effect to prevent against inflight fires in the cargo hold. passengers will still be allowed to bring e-cigarettes in their carry-ons but can't charge them in flight. a san francisco at 11:35 this morning. the area has been hit by hundreds of small quakes in recent weeks. one of those jolts. seismologists say the cal la veras fault is releasing
