live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> now at 11:00, a live picture from our exploratorium camera in san francisco. already sprinkles and showers in parts of the bay area tonight and more is on the way. good evening. i'm dan ashley. ama daetz has the night off. wet weather is here. let's get to sandhya patel. >> and live doppler 7hd is tracking showers on the peninsula. let's take a look. i will take you in closer here and i will show you what i'm talking about. really the peninsula is where the focus has been. measurable rain from loss altos, .02 of an inch and in the fremont and milpitas area seeing light returns. fremont boulevard and warm springs boulevard seeing light

returns. now the peninsula is seeing some rain and the moisture is seeing it increase from redwood city to palo alto. to the north, spotty showers, and as you look up even further to the north we do have some moisture that is just off the coast and headed our way. the beach hazard statement up and the swell height 9 to 12 feet. large breakers could be a problem along the coast. so beach hazards up again. and higher than normal tides could be causing low-lying flooding. at the golden gate we are looking at six feet over the next three days. dan, i will be back with a look at your morning commute. the time line is coming up. >> thanks a lot. and despite the warnings of rough seas some relish big waves at ocean beach. one surfer even told us the stormy conditions make the chilly pacific more appealing. >> i'll definitely be here tomorrow. waves should be looking pretty

good. the way it is looking now it will only get better. conditions stay like this, yes. >> the national park service actively discourages people from going into the water even during calm conditions at ocean beach. even before the rain there has been flooding in the north bay. high tides submerge the manzanita park and ride lot along richardson bay. a lot sits beneath highway 101 near the mill valley exits and it often floods during the heavy rains and the high tides as it did today. the rain comes as people get ready for what is expected to be a wet winter because of the warming water in the pacific near peru. a weather phenomenon calledden 19yow. new at 11:00, cornell bernard is live in san francisco tonight. cornell, obviously we desperately need the rain, but not the problems big storms can cause. >> we are starting to see a few rain drops on the embarcadero. some folks are not taking chances. they have their sandbags ready

and some are hoping to harvest all of the rain they can. >> sandbags are lining ahead of the rain. brian gorman remembers when it left his music school, rock band land, underwater from flooding. the start of a new rainy season is a nervous time. >> we increased our insurance and we will be sandbagging again and taking what precautions we can. there is only so much you can do . >> it is as simple as drilling a hole in the down spout. >> they are keeping up with demand to harvest rainwater. the 50-gallon barrels are available for purchase, but free to san francisco residents who qualify for a drought saving program by the public utilities commission. >> you can wash your car with it. >> if you want to go big, these giant 600-gallon rain catchers can be yours for $1300 of the she is hoping to

capture all of the rain she can. >> we have a garden and trying to grow our own vegetables and fruits in our yards. we have a tree, a plum tree. >> wednesday morning's commute will be a wet one. the chp says take it slow. >> there may be slow downs and there may be accidents, but plan ahead and give yourself extra time. >> rain is on the way. in san francisco, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> the abc7 morning news will be tracking the wet weather. they will update you on how the rain is affecting the morning commute. be sure to tune in. it starts tomorrow morning at 4:30 a.m. well, another bunch of small earthquakes rattled the tri-valley today. 29 of them since midnight. a pair of magnitude 2.7 quakes hit after 8:00 near san ramon. earlier today at least three minor quakes struck just after 5:00. the biggest measured 3.2.

the region has experienced hundreds of small quakes in the past few weeks. new tonight, the san jose police released this surveillance video showing the three men who carried out a home invasion robbery where the homeowner was shot. take a good look. the robbery happened right before lunchtime. these men are believed to be responsible for other similar robberies in the neighborhood. the wounded homeowner survived his injuries. into i a tragedy has shaken a fairfield neighborhood. detectives believe a 10-year-old boy stabbed his step-father to death in order to protect his mother. 45-year-old tim aldridge died and was arrested twice after incidents involving domestic violence. prosecutors dropped charges in both 2013 and last year. police believe it is unlikely that aldridge's step-son will be charged. >> unfortunately children who are witnessing domestic

violence, it sounds like he was truly afraid for his mom's safety at that time. >> the family face had the stress of filing for bankruptcy in february. new tonight the san jose city council has approved fines up to $3,000 against those who illegally dump on public property, sofas, pat trusses and all kinds of stuff. the amount of garbage on streets and public spaces has increased 75% in the past three years. it is a big and growing problem. a family tragedy did not keep a pitcher from taking the mound in the world series opener. the kansas city pitcher was headed to kaufman stadium to face the mets when he learned his father died. the espn report died from heart complications in the dominican republic. the royals beat the mets and we will have game one highlights in sports.

classroom confrontation caught on camera. this deputy shear riff is on unpaid -- this deputy sheriff is on unpaid leave after he was caught in a violent scuffle with a 16-year-old girl in south carolin the deputy went to the room to help a teacher and administrator. some say she was texting and chewing gum during an algebra lesson. students were afraid the tensions would escalate when the deputy arrived and certainly that's what happened. the fbi is now investigating this insurance department. this incident. oracle is set to break ground on a new building for a high school. it is an innovative idea. a public school on the campus of a silicon valley giant. lilian kim is live at the oracle campus in redwood shores to explain exactly what is going on. >> behind me are the oracle offices and they will soon have new companies. students and teachers in a new building here on them tee lot.

as we head toward the east bay and padre parkway getting wet weather in the newark area and we are seeing more moisture working its way toward the mendocino and sonoma county coast. here is a picture of some light rain and make sure if you take a picture of the wet weather to send it to us with the hash tag abc7 now. we welcome your weather pictures anytime. the temperatures are pretty mild. upper 50s to the mid60s. part of the reason is the cloud cover and the south wind and we will keep it with the subtropical moisture and it is showing the view of the bay bridge. it is dry and mild for halloween and we are looking at another chance of rain as we head toward sunday. here is a satellite radar and here is what is really going on. the cold front is coming in. but ahead of it the moisture is increasing which is why we've gone from sprinkles reel

yes, sir this -- sprinkles earlier this evening to some showers. here is what's going to happen. the cold front will start to slide down and as it does the showers will begin. it is pretty steady in the north bay around 5:00 a.m. and then the cold front starts to fall apart, but the showers are still there. still spotty showers in the east bay. by 1:00 p.m. they are winding down. we will see wet roadways for parts of the morning commute. just be prepared for a slow drive. we will be tracking the rain with live doppler 7hd. up to .20 expected in the wettest locations. they will pick up hayward, oakland and san jose expecting nothing measurable. we'll have to wait and see. san francisco is about .03 of an inch. first thing tomorrow morning temperatures are on the mild side as i mentioned. mid50s to low 60s. you may want to make sure that you give yourself that extra

time to get to where you need to go. and then for the afternoon we are looking at mid60s to the mid70s. cloud cover will be around along with some sun. accu-weather seven-day forecast and the wind starts to pick up as we head toward thursday. particularly windy at the coast, but sunny and milder and we will keep the pattern going by friday. saturday is looking hauntingly mild for halloween. sunday a chance of rain going into monday. sunday morning daylight saving time ends. at 2:00 a.m. we will go to 1:00 a.m. and we gain it is extra hour of sleep. >> it just gets darker earlier.
