>> reporter: that man came here to county jail to try to turn himself in. he was redirected just blocks away. here is the suspect, hugo castro. authorities say he confessed to stabbing a woman he once dated. authorities tell us it happened over the weekend. but the victim's body was determined. he stated he was aware of the location of a dead body. the sheriff's office maintains at no point did he mention he was responsible for the dead body. that is why they say they referred him to san jose pd, where he was taken into custody after providing a statement to them. now, in a statement to us, the sheriff's office says, quote, if the initial findings are true, then, the custody deputies failed to meet expectations of

the department and will take appropriate action to deal with the deputy, end quote. this is the latest in a string of problems involving the main jail, operated by the sheriff's department, in fact, a commission was appointed by the county yesterday to look into the problems, including the death of an inmate allegedly at the hands of guards. the deputy has been reassigned from his job here pending the outcome of an internal investigation. we know where san jose's former police chief is going. he is going to tracy, and he announced his retirement from the san jose police department in july. he'd been with the department 41 years and two years as chief.

he was a finalist for the job in tucson. all police officers will be wearing body cameras. many have been using them as part of a pilot program but it had been a full time thing. all officers will receive a camera as soon as the end of the week. a 9-year-old boy is in the hospital after being shot in the leg as he was sleeping. police say the owner was handling the weapon when it went off. the round went through his foot and into the apartment. both smith, and the boy rushed to valley medical center. they're in serious condition. >> everybody saw him running or

teen-aged boy was uncooperative and tried head butting the officer. and two others were found in the apartment. the city of pittsburgh could be losing it's only charter school. it could be just weeks from closing down. parents are looking for other options. abc7 news has the story from pittsburgh. >> michelle traveled to pitsberg so her daughter can attend step high school. >> this is one place where my daughter has been able to feel like a regular student. >> parents received two letters, one from the school, saying the board resigned, and another from the company that manages the school in southern california. stating they could not operate

without a board. without a board or a management company the school is slated to close. the school referred us to lawyers in southern california who said they wouldn't comment. abc7 news found out in 2012 the school district had denied requests for a charter. and appealed to the contra costa office of education. they said no. >> there are concerns about just delivering the curriculum. >> the county was worried about school finances. the school ended up appealing to the state department of education, which ganted them the charter, allowing them to operate. if they close some nearby districts we'll have to absorb the students. >> last time there were from 40 to 60 students at that school in
